Madden 08 Chad Johnson

SportsGamer recently published a full list of all of the weapons held by each player as well as the overall team ratings.

The accuracy of the list comes into question as a few confirmed weapons are not listed here as well as previous statements made not completely matching up. However it could simply be that those were altered since then. I'll note some of those things in my recap of the info. Also keep in mind this was not from the final version of the game so there could potentially be changes made by release time.

It will be interesting to see how much the weapons end up meaning. Which will be more effective when it comes down to it. A team with a higher overall rating, or a team with more weapons at their disposal?

I have listed the teams in order by rating as well as added info on the number of weapons each has. I've included some of my observations as well. Continue through to read the full list of teams.

97 – New England Patriots. 13 players with weapons for a total of 21 weapons. Previously it was stated that the Patriots had the most weapon players in Madden with 14. Not only do they not have 14 listed, but they trail the Bears and Chargers.

95 – San Diego Chargers. 16 for a total of 26 weapons. They have the most in both categories, exceeding the next highest in total weapons by 5 (Pats and Ravens). Needless to say the Chargers are going to be a powerful team.

94 – Indianapolis Colts. 10 players for a total of 18 weapons.

91 – Chicago Bears. 14 for a total of 17 weapons. However it had been confirmed that Muhsin Muhammad would have the "Possession" weapon. Here he is only listed as having "Hands". Also keep in mind that Lance Briggs, who has 2 weapons, may be holding out and his availability on the roster will be in question.

90 – Baltimore Ravens. 13 for a total of 21 weapons. Eye-opening totals there for what may have been an over-looked team.

89 – Denver Broncos. 8 for a total of 18 weapons.

89 – Seattle Seahawks. 9 for a total of 14 weapons.

88 – New Orleans Saints. 7 for a total of 13 weapons.

88 – Pittsburgh Steelers. 8 for a total of 13 weapons.

87 – Cincinnati Bengals. 9 for a total of 18 weapons. Have to wonder how Chad Johnson, the league leader in dropped passes nearly every year, ends up with the "Hands" weapon.

87 – Philadelphia Eagles. 12 for a total of 19 weapons. Tony Hunt (a third round draft pick at RB) gets a weapon? That doesn't make much sense given other rookie RBs such as Adrian Peterson didn't get any.

87 – Dallas Cowboys. 12 for a total of 16 weapons. Interestingly Terrell Owens didn't get "Spectacular Catch". How then do we get to see him make that one-handed TD catch in the trailer?

86 – Jacksonville Jaguars. 10 for a total of 14 weapons.

85 – Carolina Panthers. 8 for a total of 12 weapons. Dwayne Jarrett gets a "Spectacular Catch" weapon. Bizarre.

84 – New York Jets. 6 for a total of 9 weapons.

83 – St. Louis Rams. 12 for a total of 17 weapons. Dangerous offensive team in Madden.

82 – San Francisco 49ers. 8 for a total of 9 weapons.

81 – Washington Redskins. 11 for a total of 13 weapons.

81 – New York Giants. 7 for a total of 9 weapons. Poor Eli Manning no where to be found.

80 – Green Bay Packers. 11 for a total of 16 weapons.

80 – Kansas City Chiefs. 9 for a total of 12 weapons.

80 – Atlanta Falcons. 12 for a total of 14 weapons.

78 – Miami Dolphins. 9 for a total of 12 weapons. You can basically scratch one off the list however in Daunte Culpepper.

76 – Detroit Lions. 7 for a total of 10 weapons. Calvin Johnson gets "Spectacular Catch" despite not having made any catches yet in the NFL. How do you feel about that? Is it justified?

75 – Arizona Cardinals. 5 for a total of 12 weapons. The combo of Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald is scary.

74 – Minnesota Vikings. 8 for a total of 10 weapons. Another rookie WR, Sidney Rice, gets "Spectacular Catch".

74 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 7 for a total of 10 weapons.

73 – Tennessee Titans. 3 for a total of 4 weapons.

67 – Cleveland Browns. 7 for a total of 10 weapons.

67 – Oakland Raiders. 9 for a total of 9 weapons.

67 – Buffalo Bills. 5 for a total of 5 weapons.

67 – Houston Texans. 5 for a total of 7 weapons.

Looks like this will be not the most exciting game for Vikings fans :( I don’t know how Sidney Rice got “Spectacular Catch”… We took Troy Williamson, also from South Carolina, last year in the first round and if anyone has paid attention, Williamson dropped passes somewhere in the double-digit count. Hopefully Rice’s Madden weapon turns out to be true on the real field this season.

I will say that I really like the weapon system. I think it will give teams more character rather than just a numerical rating. However, when I think about the online gameplay, I can see people just picking the teams with the most weapons at their disposal. I am not saying this is wrong, but it just seems like if you want to play a balanced game you will have to match up weapons on both sides of the field. This takes my Vikings out of the question if I play against someone using the Patriots or the Chargers

I am looking forward to the super star mode of madden which is always fun, but when it comes to online, I might be using 2k8 because of the equal number of weapons that each team will have.

If you go to the “full list” link in the first sentence you can see that the Raiders have 9 players with a total of 9 weapons.

I don’t know if weapons change the way people will pick teams online. The balance really doesn’t change because of them. If anything it’ll be more realistic. Instead of seeing the Falcons every game, now people will have reason to pick the Colts/Patriots ect.

Of course as always some teams are much better than others. Thats the NFL. I like to play different matchups and with a variety of teams, so I play online against guys I know so that we can get good matchups set.

You are right. Teams aren’t all the same and it should be, and is represented as such in Madden. And I suppose that sometimes it isn’t such a bad thing to have a bit of a mismatch, because in my experience, beating your friend using the underdog team feels oh so good.

The Titans didn’t have Pacman Jones as a weapon. The list is at the top..
    K. Bullock ROLB Big Hitter Brick Wall
    R. Bironas K Big Foot
    V. Young QB Speed

Some people on forums.xbox.com were saying Haynesworth and Chris Hope.

I’m not so sure that giving rookies weapons is so logical. But in the case of Tony Hunt, it makes some sense. Throughout training camp he’s been plowing people and always falling forward, what a power back should do. Also, he’s something like 6′1 and 238 pounds. That might be big enough to be considered a power back.
