Exciting NBA Live 08 news coming?

A few days ago it was mentioned in a blog on the NBA Live 08 website that there would be exciting news regarding Live this week. However I have found out that whatever it is will not be revealed until Monday the 24th.

No one really has a confident feel on what this news could be. Some have suggested the release date may be pushed up to next Tuesday, but its hard to believe EA would want to release Live on the same day as Halo 3. On the other hand it would still accomplish beating out NBA 2K8 to the store shelves. Both currently are set to be in stores on Tuesday October 2nd.

Regardless of what the news holds I am hoping to have my copy of Live early next week. Full impressions, comparisons to the Community Day build, and videos will follow soon after having it in hand.

Update 9/24: I've just been informed that this announcement is now unlikely to come today. It should make its way out by the end of the week, possibly as early as tomorrow.

That would be crazy if it was a suprise release on Tuesday or that week.

I’m wondering because in all there ads it states Oct 2.

If not a release date change, what could it possibly be. I can’t imagine having any different feature in the game at this stage. Unless they were holding back on telling us a feature.

While a release this week would put it out along with Halo 3, I think basketball fans would still buy it. It would only be a week sooner.

I’m going to go with an early release date as my guess. I don’t even think releasing it the same day as Halo would be a bad idea. Considering we are all prepared to drop the $60 on the 2nd anyway. It only makes sense for EA to one up 2k since 2k pulled one off themselves with their demo offering longer quarter times allowing us to really feel the game out. I know if I were EA I’d say okay lets drop the game early will people are into these Demo wars.

Just my thoughts.

I´d like it be something big. But I´m not counting on that. Maybe it will be some kind of Xbox Live Tournament for a chance to spend a day with Arenas etc…someone here in the comments mentioned classic players, that would be nice.

Maybe they are going along the lines of both Madden and Fifa with some sort of first player aspect. Which if it does happen we can play online with it like in Fifa.

That’d be awesome but I doubt they’d be able to keep something that huge under wraps. If its a feature aspect, it might be something along the lines of the team play that was in NHL with 3 vs 3 online.

I’m not getting my hopes up too high on this announcement. We’ll see though.

Highlights feature: Is it possible that EA could have kept the ability to upload highlight vids (like in NCAA football) under wraps this long? To me that would be a feature for live that would get anybodies juices going.

If it’s an early release, I don’t think it’d hurt sales, it might actually help. Think of the number of people who will be going into video game stores next week. They may see Live is out, and get it while they’re in the store.

For those who don’t want to shell out the $120 all in one week, can still get it next week as it will still be there. If someone wanted both games, they’d still need to pay $120, but now they can choose if they want to all at once, or $60 on Halo 3 this week, and $60 on Live next week (as they had expected all long).

I’m not as excited as some others if it’s the Dream Team being in the game. The Dream Team just killed every team they played. If you controlled the Dream Team, what team would matchup well enough to not make it a blowout.
