NBA Live 08 Full Game: Pistons @ Magic

Magic vs Pistons NBA Live 08

Here is another full game from NBA Live 08, this one has the Detroit Pistons facing off against the Orlando Magic on Superstar difficulty.

I’ve gone over a lot of what I like about the game through my community event and demo impressions so it would be redundant for me to talk more about those things right now. I do have a few comments to make on the first couple games I’ve played. As I’ve mentioned in the comments it’s difficult for me to assess the game very well when I’m recording because I have to play through my computer monitor. This adds some challenge as I have more trouble identifying pass icons, telling which player is which, and so on. Once I play more on my TV I’ll add additional impressions of the game, and clarify if I still find these things to be true.

-Compared to what I played back at the community event the fast breaks don’t seem to flow as well. I had opportunities where I’d pass to a guy I figured was going to continue to the basket but he’d stop and wait to receive the pass, thereby ending the fast break.

-The crowd reactions and volume have impressed me. They really get loud for big dunks, or in the case of this Pistons-Magic game, even making critical free throws.

-With all the default settings and the five minute quarters, it seems fatigue doesn’t factor in much if at all. Here I had it on auto-sub, yet it never subbed anyone out as far as I remember.

-The pressure the opposing team puts on your PG after crossing the court is a little frustrating in how aggressive they are. You’ll get swiped on occasion if you’re not extra careful and it makes it a risky proposition to call a play.

-I haven’t had much success with the pick and roll. I’ll keep working on that though.

This will be the last set until late this evening when I should be able to get up the Go-To Moves video displaying them for several players (I already have 20 of them recorded). Additional impressions, answering questions, and possibly more videos will come tomorrow.

The commentating is very nice. if you play the vid and look away you’d swear you had an real game on tv based on the audio. This is something you can’t say about 2K.

Thanks for the video Pasta, I’d be lying if I said i was totally impressed. It looks like a good game but something looks like it might be missing. Not sure…I might end up getting this for the PS3–if they fixed the slow down.

EWWWWWWWWWW!!! The animations are clunky, reminds me of a pretty Live 06. EA really needs to step up their game if they expect to compete in sim basketball play. This is a step in the right direction, but they have a wayssssss to go.

The CPU AI is so suspect. They stand around watching. The passes really look like they are passing a balloon around instead of a basketball. NBA Live is taking way too many baby steps, while the competition is just running by. I like the audio a lot, but everything else just isnt what EA hyped it up to be. I still havent seen any type of SIG shot. This is what EA has ammounted too in 3 yrs.. wow, just wow on next gen. David Gardner must be rolling around is his grave. Same for Brent, Matt, and the rest of the devs. Its playable but just looks boring.

I’ll still pick up NBA Live 08 because I was all hyped up for the game. But since I started playing the 2K8 demo I’ve been thinking more about it than Live. I’ll pick up both as always but a change of the guard ocurred in my “mos wanted game” meter.

i cant see da videos cuz my computer real bad but are the jumpers really that bad? i mean 2k has the best lookin ones…in the demo lebron normal j without movin looked stupid..but his fade was correct…n arenas was good…but i hear tmacs is bad…is it the same one he did in nba live 07 on xbox360??? EA doesnt realize makin the jumpers look real is one of the most important features..it cant be tooo hard jus copy it from 2k lol…2k is gonna kill live…AGAIN

aight i think i kno wat da “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT” is..i think they releasin it october 1st a day early…cuz on gamespot.com all of the games except pc are now expected to be release october 1st n not 2nd…not dat BIG but i like it to come out day early…more woulda been nice but its all good but i wouldnt doubt if they released it a day before 2k to try n beat it

i don’t think the day early is the big news….i’ve had both preordered for 3 weeks now and it’s always being listed as “shipped” on the 1st, that way they can garuntee that it will be on your doorstep on the 2nd.
