The second and more significant patch for Madden 08 has been pushed live by Microsoft. Those with the 360 version will be prompted to download the patch as the game loads up. The PS3 version is expected to receive the patch soon as well. When is dependent on Sony but it is in their hands.
As previously reported the patch addresses the following issues:
Fumble Fix – Reduced fumble chances in certain situations. This has been tested thoroughly and we feel that people will be happy with a more realistic (and more fun!) number of fumbles. This was priority number 1 for us.
DB Reactions- changes to the way that DBs play man coverage. Defenders in man coverage won’t be able to react to passes that they cannot see. This should make it easier to throw against man coverage.
Favre “Moonwalk”- I love the names that you guys come up with for issues such as this one. You can rest assured that you won’t see Farve (or any QB) dancing toward the sideline anymore.
Hook Zone Flip Bug- I saw a post on a community forum talking about this bug and it turns out the fix was very minimal risk. You can now flip plays with hook zones without the players leaving their zones.
Franchise – Fixed NCAA import issue where players would turn 26
Franchise – Fixed bug where HOF Unlocked players cannot be released in Franchise.
Franchise – Fixed bug where the FA pool would run out of certain positions
Online Game Reporting- fixed a number of issues where games weren’t being reported correctly or people weren’t getting the right number of ranking points for a win. This will also make stats more accurate.
EA SPORTS World- Accomplishment ‘20 consecutive completions’ not awarded when completions ends up under 100%

Sounds good, I’ll give it shot one of these days. I’m surprised this patch was release before the NBA Live online team play download.

Thanks Pasta.

I’m so glad this patch is FINALLY out. Now I can start my franchise.
Thanks for the post, Pasta.

I had three fumbles in one half. I have the patch too. wow. just wow.
November 29, 2007 at 6:49 pm
When is the next roster update coming out?
November 29, 2007 at 8:25 pm
My early impressions are that they have ruined the passing game. I am throwing those corner routes at will just like last year. I am completing everything…which will mean so will everyone else online. The man coverage has gone to crap! Back to 50 to 55 point games online like last year….EA screws up again! I am also hearing that the pass committ is messed up!
November 29, 2007 at 9:38 pm
One thing that was not fixed in this patch: defenders are still credited with 2 interceptions for every one thrown by the quarterback.
November 29, 2007 at 10:23 pm
Does that stat mess with the season stats once your out of the game?
Also Im not with my 360, can you change LGs to RGs and LBs now?
November 30, 2007 at 6:25 am
Do I have to start my franchise over in order for these things to take affect?

And I’m just surprised that the sim stats have never been looked at b/c they are beyond ridiculous.

Yeah in order for it to take effect you have to start up a new franchise.
November 30, 2007 at 7:31 am
Does this make Madden worth picking up again? I had traded it in earlier for the PC version, which is getting old (I like the 3rd party editing options).
November 30, 2007 at 1:39 pm
Where’d you get the information about the fixed free-agent pool? The official EA blog from the producer doesn’t list that at all. It’s got everything else that you mentioned verbatim, but nothing about the FA pool glitch even being addressed.
November 30, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Well I hope you whiners are happy….the game is now ruined online. Before the patch I was playing games with realistic scores from 14 points to 28 in most games. I have just finished playing 3 games both were in the high 30’s to the 50 range…..just like last year! Bottom line D-Backs have turned into complete terds in man coverage! All this does is equal the playing field between not so good and better players. For all of us that liked the skill it took to throw, this patch made it a completely different game…Which sucks! The skill it took to clear zones and run compatiable routes is gone. Now its just throw to Shockey because he beats his man right of the line of scrimmage and its a complete pass even though the coverage is all over him….they just made the D backs not play the ball. Sorry for the rant but I hate this patch! If you liked playing D your going to be thru playing this game.

Super Lame we still cant change positions of players.
Much better than it was before however.
November 30, 2007 at 5:32 pm
This is much improved. I still wish we could interchange the Guards-Linebackers and Secondary but oh well….
November 30, 2007 at 7:36 pm
I really dont know what you guys like about it. Before the patch McDump abuser runs 25 yards back running away from the blitz and throws down field and it was incomplete or an int…now…we are right back where we started. McDump abuser or any running QB runs 25 yards back just to buy time for the WR to run 30 or 40 yards and throws it up and guess what…. complete because the dump ass defender doesnt play the ball. Some of you guys need to step into the year 2008 and stop worring about your 5000 yard passer in franchise mode!
November 30, 2007 at 10:03 pm
I played a game tonight, Giants vs Cowboys where I lost 18-10, should’ve been 21-10 if the guy didn’t go for 2 every TD. Thankfully I didn’t see any huge problem with high scores or deep balls. I know it’s only one game so i’ll keep an eye out.
December 1, 2007 at 2:47 am
Maybe now that EA has made a commitment to trying to fix the gameplay up it might actually make a commitment to watching actual nfl games to rate the players. I mean i watched the packers and cowboys game and kampman who is a 97 got zero sacks nor did any other of their players and yet the 70 something rating that columbo gets playing against him in madden equals lots of sacks every time you play. And Romo who is second in the league in almost all categories including breaking the cowboys all-time touchdown record scores a whopping 90 rating overall. Just ridiculous some of the ratings they give players they need to put more effort into how they rate these guys not based on one game either.
December 1, 2007 at 9:03 am
Anthony,
Play a few more games online. Instead of people running 2 and 3 wr sets like before everybody has started running 4 wr sets because now it is like old crappy madden….throw into man coverage and the WR catches it! So we have come full circle….we are back to a qb running back just to buy time for the wr to get down field and then let it fly even though the wr is clearly covered. It takes no skill, chumps arent even looking for open wr’s just to a wr 30 to 40 yards down field. Pasta give madden a big middle finger for me.
December 1, 2007 at 12:40 pm
Well, after 7 games with the patch, I have to say that I don’t think they fixed the fumble or db reactions.
Interceptions:
In my 7 games, Favre has thrown 22 picks. Almost every one of them by a player in man coverage against a receiver who was not being thrown to. For example, I have outside WR and TE doing in cuts, and throw it to the outside reciever because his man is behind him. The LB covering the TE freezes the second before I throw and slides to his right and the ball suctions into him.
Fumbles:
Averaging 5 or so fumbles a game. At one point, I was up with 3 min left against the falcons (24-10). Fumble #1, dive up the middle, no one is blocked and it’s a 3 man gang tackle in the backfield, fumble, returned for a td. No big deal, huge tackle. so returning the kick, fumbled on a routine tackle, its returned to the 5, they score again. 3rd time, next possession my OTHER RB fumbles it on the first carry. they score 2 plays later. I had 2 other fumbles earlier in the game, 1 more by morency and then another by favre.
I’m all done. I skipped ‘07 because of the mediocre reviews. That was the 1st I’d missed since 1990 on the genesis. I thought this year would be different. Not buying anymore EA sports games. I don’t like NFL2k gameplay, so looks like one of last games I play is pretty much done. I’m 31 now, and I typically only play madden, and once in a while an RPG (or something like Assasins Creed). End of an era for me. bummer.
December 1, 2007 at 3:11 pm
Todd,
If you have a PS2, I’d say pick up Madden for the PS2. It feels like a different game to me, and there’s actually some options I like better than the Xbox 360 version (smart routes, O-line slides). Or the PC version will do.
December 2, 2007 at 7:43 am
Todd,
What the hell are you talking about! Have you even downloaded the patch. How in the hell have you thrown 22 picks in 7 games. Your problem is you SUCK! It’s people like you that ruined the game by posting in forums about how many picks your throwing and the reason we have this crappy patch. Do us all a favor…keep your pie whole shut and get better…you tool!
December 2, 2007 at 2:00 pm
So I suppose this hasn’t looked into freezing at all then? Since I’ve updated from 1.93 firmware, this game has froze like crazy. Firmware 2.01 helped a little, but it’s still freezing. Called EA and they told me it wasn’t their problem. Called Sony and they told me it was EA’s responsibility to make their patches compatible with all firmware releases. And this is supposed to be next-gen? What a joke!!!
December 3, 2007 at 12:16 pm
Lol at Doke.
I picked off the computer 28 times…so by your logic, I rule!!111 Go back to cheesing online kid.
This in fact was the only place I’ve posted about Madden. Your comments are laughable.
If you think this game didn’t need a patch, you are an idiot.
December 3, 2007 at 3:19 pm
Hey Pasta any idea when they might bring out the next roster update?
December 3, 2007 at 8:19 pm
Todd,
You picked the computer off 28 times….now thats funny! Judging whether the game needs a patch based on playing the computer….great…is this 1998 or 2008. Patch or no patch I dont know for the life of me how chumps like you ever lose to the computer or in franchise mode. Its so damn easy! As far as cheesing online before the patch you couldnt because you couldnt throw into coverage. If you threw 22 int in 7 games against the computer you dont deserve or should be giving an opinion on whether this game needs a patch. Now go back to mommy’s basement and scout your draft picks for 2015 in franchise mode!

I’ve ajusted my roster on numerous occasions via the roster management; however, whenever I go online to play, the computer prompts me to download the updated roster provided by EA. Is there a way to use the roster online that I revised via “roster management?” Also, the same thing occurs when I adjust my depth chart prior to going on line (the system tells me that I must download the updated roster). Can I adjust my depth chart prior to online play?

Nope nothing you can do. Unfortunately they force the roster download for every game and you can’t carry over depth chart edits to the online games.

When is the PS3 patch going to be released?
December 8, 2007 at 5:26 am
Ive gotten the patch for 360, restarted my franchise with a couple of friends and we like to do the trainning for each week. We are in week 7 of the first season and it freezes when we try to train. So just for the hell of it we simulated until the end of the season for the results and to see if the franchise would continue and it freezes in the playoffs even after several attempts. Anyone else still having freezing issues with the franchise???
December 9, 2007 at 1:25 am
My drills are all wacky. And sometimes when I draft guys in the first round they are ranked 39. Top Ten pick. Two times in 3 years. Its sort of infuriating.
December 9, 2007 at 9:38 am
Downloaded patch and still have Free Agent Pool run out of players…PISSED.
December 10, 2007 at 4:24 pm
Hi Pasta,
Do you have any news from the PS3 patch release date as well as the roster update date for december???
December 10, 2007 at 4:30 pm
PS3 patch is still with Sony, just a matter of time, possibly could see that this week. Roster update I haven’t gotten anything concrete on when that is expected to be out.
December 13, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Anyone have any news on a patch for the PC? It needs one pretty bad IMO.
December 19, 2007 at 8:51 am
If I’m playing offline, do I have to download the patch or is it optional.
I like to play co-op franchise with friends and I’d like to try the patch (due to fumbles) but not be forced to use it should I not like the changes, i.e. to have the option to play with the patch or without.
Is that possible?
Thanks
December 19, 2007 at 11:54 am
Hi Pasta,
Any news yet on the PS3 patch and the roster update release dates for next gen???
December 20, 2007 at 12:42 pm
When’s the new patch coming out for ps3 pasta? You said last week and it’s been a week…Now how much longer?
December 20, 2007 at 1:48 pm
hopefully before Christmas? Like I said theres no way to know for sure. It has been in Sony’s hands so its dependant on when they clear it to go out.
The roster update for both systems should be out soon after the PS3 gets its patch.
December 20, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Why is EA/SONY taking so long to release the patch this has pretty much gotten ridiculous. I mean its closing in on a month sincce it was released for the 360 and i cant understand what could possibly be taking so long
