March Madness 08 coverage set to begin

Unless some unforeseen circumstances occur I am expecting my copy of March Madness 08 to arrive today. I should have some time to compile my initial impressions compared to the demo and post a video or two. The demo was disappointing to me however EA has stated that they made adjustments based on the feedback and that will be the first thing that I really look for. I’ve found in the past that the demos don’t always accurately represent how the final version of the game feels anyway.

Over the coming days expect continued impressions and more videos. I’ll also try and answer basic questions about the game. Those are going to be things that relate to gameplay, options, player/team ratings, and so on. I won’t be going into dynasty mode much if at all and time wise I just won’t be able to answer every question that is posed. But feel free to leave comments here or on any of the upcoming postings and I’ll try to either answer in the comments or combine a bunch together for a separate posting.

Look for either a status update here (should the game not show up) or the first content in the early evening hours.

9:00PT: Unfortunately the game didn’t make it here today. The weather this week has slowed deliveries so that would probably be the reasoning (which was why I was uncertain to begin with). Hopefully it comes on Friday and I’ll get right on it.

6:30PT (FRI): The game arrived just now. I’ll have time to put up a video tonight but thats it until Saturday.

Pasta, could you post info on the CAP feature and edit name feature. I just want to know if its like 2ks name editor. Ive been playing the hell out of the demo. Probably 50 games or so. I just cant play Choops anymore. Its just to much live NBA2k8 (thats not a bad thing) but, MM feels more like a college game. Can you tell me if the speed in the transition has been sped up? Cant wait for posts.

Hey DirtyJerz32 how in the world do you see that march madness game being better then college hoops.. just curious to know.. everytime i played that demo it just made me wonder if i was really playing an xbox360 or a nitendo game.. the gameplay is horrible and they didnt even do graphics well which is something EA do a good job of every year, i would know cause i got a sony 42″ Hdtv.. the list would go on and on about horrible things in that game but i wouldnt want to spend my time writing about it

First off let me start by saying I never said that MM is better than CHoops. If you read what I wrote it CLEARLY states. I just think that Choops plays like NBA2k8. Which I says was not a bad thing. SO I dont know why Im spending my time rehashing what I said. If you could read than you wouldnt even had to take time out of your busy schedule to write something.

I just said that MM (IMO) plays like a college game. I like it. Nobody said you had to like it. IMO the post game is HANDS DOWN THEY BEST IN THE BUSINESS. Thats just my opinion. So to sum up. Just because I like something doesnt mean anyone has to like it. They only thing that matters is what I want to play.

As crap as the gameplay was in the demo for MM08, the graphics were/are/will be so far superior to CH08 that it isn’t even funny… I would know I have a 42″ 1080p hdtv that I play the game on

As crap as the gameplay was in the demo for MM08, the graphics were/are/will be so far superior to CH08 that it isn’t even funny… I would know I have a 42″ 1080p hdtv that I play the game on

I know 2K legacy is very, very, very deep. Probably the deepest in any sports video game. MM hasnt come out for me to even try and compare. But, if its anything like NCAA 08 than it will be great.

I don’t understand why people continually put their faith in EA. I have most of their 08′ titles (tiger,fifa,madden,ncaa football,etc.)except live and mm08, 2k8 is way better at constructing a solid basketball game.

EA has a monoply on the sports gaming genre. They are the largest sports gaming corporation, which means they throw the most money at their projects.
There are no heavyweights the size of EA leaving them no competition. 2k is the first challenger but from the large scope of things they can’t touch EA financially.

Its easy to put out an overall mediocre product when people are still buying your games (for lack of choice.)

ex: People who love the nfl have to play madden, people who love world football and the correct kits have to play fifa.)
EA knows it’s games are not up to par, there’s just no financial interest to fix them.

-Like their business plan says,
-Buy out the competition if possible,
-Hype people up on our games,
-deliever a (good) not great game ,
-keep people satisfied but not happy so you can hype them up next year & the year after & so on.

EA will give you medeocrity because of the faith we put in their ability to deliever on their hype, which at this point is 0%. That is the only way they can’t get you to buy a new game every year.

Remember people, EA is not a video game making corporation, they’re a money making corporation, that sells video games for enormous profit. Maybe they didn’t start out like that but they settled into a CASH first, PRODUCT second mindset.

So enjoy the title’s you do purchase (like I will) because most of them are in fact good games, but stop putting your faith in EA and don’t expect to have your dreams come true when you open up the box.

my thing on the live vs. 2k8 situation is that i feel that 2k8 is a very realistic game but sometimes gets boring after playing 1 game or 2. but with live ea sports does a great job of making games fun.

Couldnt have said it better myself. I have Choops 2k8 and traded in NBA2k8 for it and to me (IMO) the best part and most fun is the recruiting players. Ive simmed so many games just because play against NC was the same as playing South Idaho. I know people are gonna flame or bash me but I still play the game but just dont (play) the games.

I care about gameplay also. But, the post game in MM08 is the best ever. So EA’s graphics are by far better than CHoops and there gameplay was always behind. But, we’ll just have to see about the gameplay. I dont go by demos so Im not going to say MM is junk. they are uping the speed of the game in transition and also fast breaks. if that is the case than MM is surpas CHoops. And I couldn’t disagree more. Each coach has a different style in CH2K8, and it shows. Some games you’ll be getting full court pressed every time down the court, other games you’ll be facing 2-3/3-2/1-2-2/etc. zones with low pressure defense. Some games you’ll be getting rained down upon with 3s, other games you’ll be playing teams that run down the shot clock or keep feeding it in to the post.

This variety is what makes the college game so much better than the NBA title IMO.

Im glad you disagree and actually gave your opinion. Some people would have just bashed. Anyway, yes I do agree about some teams will press all game while some will sit back in a zone (SU) but, I just felt after 20 games every game started feeling the same. Thats just my opinion. Im happy we have two games to figure it out. Unlike football. We are some lucky gamers.

Ok. I think these comments are getting out of hand. The Kush guy really needs to stop. Ive seen him on Operationsports doing the same thing. Trying to start somoething with guys who like 2k games. Dr. Logic. Even though i dont agree with what Kush is doing I dont agree with your statement. “People that choose live over 2k have no appreciation for the game of basketball” is alittle far off.

Just because you like 2k doesnt mean someone that likes Live or MM doesnt have an appreciation for the game. If they didnt I dont think they would be buying the games in the first place. Dont bash another person opinion just because its different then yours.

The funny thing about all of this EA 2K stuff is that it was started by us. It wasnt like EA went to the NFL and asked for the exclusive. 2k had a chance just like every other company. EA won because they have more money. Thats life. People that have more money get better things.

EA putting out really bad games after that really put a bad taste in everyones mouth. 2K had a great game in NFL2k5 and the NBA2k series.

Competitive companies are a good thing. companies like ubisoft and activision put out war games. They have a following just like everyone else. But you dont see those respective people bashing the other company or its players. Its good business. Do you see guys that play COD4 bashing guys that play GRAW2, do you? NO, they like their games and move one because they reallize that those companies are here to make games and make money.

We all need to relax and enjoy what we were given. Theres 5 bball titles out right now. 3 football titles, 3 baseball titles. 2 hockey titles. Next gen guys. Sorry Wii and PS2. These are all from different companies. Does anyone remember when we had 1 game for each of the major sports? I do and it was great. NHL 04, Super Tecmo Bowl, (before Madden took off) NBA Live 95, Triple Play.

Those were the days. There was nobody calling for patches and people looking for glitches just to bitch about something. We need to call ourselves lucky enough to be around when this is happening and be greatful that we even have a choice.

You’re kidding right? Or, it could be that some people play the games that they enjoy. Yeah sure, people who prefer 2K games are superior in their knowledge and appreciation of the game of basketball. Give me a break.

I never understood why people feel the need to justify their opinions by putting down and insulting the people who may feel otherwise.
