The return of XSN?

There is an interesting rumor coming out in regards to the potential sale of Take-Two or just their 2K Sports division. Originally posted by the site Xbox Family, there is some talk that Microsoft could buy 2K Sports and resurrect the Xbox Sports Network through the 2K games. They could then expand to other sports as well.

The Xbox Sports Network was introduced with the original Xbox and included games such as NFL Fever and NBA Inside Drive.

In this scenario Microsoft would then have their own exclusive line of sports titles on the 360 in the same way that Sony has theirs. 2K Sports has continued to struggle with profitability which has lead to widespread belief that Take-Two would like to get that division off their hands.

Despite how some people want to jump on the pure speculation of an EA purchase of 2K there is nothing currently that points towards that being a reality.

Would Microsoft find value in this deal? Having exclusive franchises is always appealing, although it is uncertain whether they would really want to go head-to-head with EA. It’ll be an interesting situation to follow.

wouldn’t they be able to put out an NFL game then? it’d have to be XBOX exclusive until the EA-NFL deal runs out…. but maybe Microsoft would keep all the 2k football guys and let them put out an NFL game????

To be honest,we’d probably see the XSN on the 360 only, but that would make profits worse. Count in the fact that that the money flowing to EA comes from the 360, I believe the only way for XSN to get some profits is to squeeze the MLB license for all it’s worth and try to establish the baseball franchise before the deal runs out (if it does).

i dunno… i would ASSUME microsoft would be smart enough to realize how loyal and how much potential the 2k fanbase is…. and maybe they’d run with it and see they could make alot more money selling on all systems….

well they wouldn’t necessarily have to make money off of each game. Just having the exclusive sports lineup could give people more reason to purchase a 360. Which is good for MS in the long run.

    you would have:

    360 exclusive- NBA 2K
    PS3 exclusive- Sony NBA
    Both- NBA Live

Its still just a rumor though. I wouldn’t worry about it at this point.

That would be nice for 2K Sports. Their games would benefit from the fact that Microsoft’s budget for their games would be huge. Production values is something that keep EA Sports games competing with 2K Sports eventhough 2K manages to have the better games underneath.

So? You get Sony NBA. We (360 owners) would get NBA 2K… Its perfectly fair. Besides, then Sony would have to step up it’s sports games or lose potential customers to M$.

Hmmm, if they drop something like NFL fever… Its a lost. Also making 2k games exclusive for 360 is dumb (I own a 360), I feel sorry if that does happen because that PS3 has no titles and I know cats that are banking on the future games dropping on that system… Good for us xbox owners, bad for everyone else…

The one franchise I would like to see make a return is Links. Links 2004 was the best golf game made for a console. I like Tiger but Links was awesome.

Not to mention, you get MS first party sports titles rolling then you will get to see what the 360 can do graphically. I wasn’t a fan of Fever, NBA Drive or NHL Whatever it was. However, MS did push the visuals with each of these franchises…

Bring back Links….Oh, and the PS3 is toast. For the PS3 owners (I traded mine in back in May), have fun with MGS4 in 2009. However, MLB 08 The Show is looking all right.
