2K Sports has officially unveiled a new sports franchise with the announcement of Don King Presents: Prizefighter. Set to release in April 2008 the game will be available on the Xbox 360, Wii, and DS. Thats right, apparently there will be no PS3 version.
“The combination of real-life fight scenarios, story-driven gameplay and photo-realistic graphics will set this title apart from the competition,” said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. “Our goal has always been to deliver the most engaging and realistic titles, and Don King Presents: Prizefighter will exceed these expectations. Based on the game’s innovative features and high-profile fighters, this title will be a ‘must have’ for any sports gamer.”
Developed by Venom Games, the 2K studio that brought Rocky and Rocky Legends to the Xbox and PlayStation 2, Don King Presents: Prizefighter will bring the realism of live action match-ups and the true tactics of the sweet science together for the first time. More than just a night at the fights – players will be responsible for building a career by overcoming adversity, avoiding temptation, and balancing their commitments to train and promote, all while focusing on the goal of ultimately winning and defending the title belt. The story will be told by a revolutionary sports documentary-style narrative never before seen in a video game.

Nothing can beat fight night. The Rocky games were terrible, but this will be terrible if it doesn’t have TPC, or it will just be copying FN if it has TPC. Not really a winning situation for them. Probably why they included all the strorylines and such.

hmmm. i always thought the rocky games had some potential. this game could be decent.

Can’t compete if not released on all systems. 2k is a horrible business. Makes good games, but their business side is terrible. If anything, PS3 and 360. Easy win for EA.

“Avoid temptation”?????????

Not hearing the PS3 being mentioned certainly gives a lot of credence to the theory that the XSN may be brought back. (Here is a link to that story: http://www.pastapadre.com/1981/the-return-of-xsn)

This is a good thing.
Don’t slam 2K – they make fantastic sports games and this game could easily compete with fight night (which in my opinion is an excellent game online and off-line)
I am totally pumped up for this, knowing that the deal to bring back XSN sports is probably going to happen, it means we COULD very well see a new version of Links Golf which would totally make my year.

This game sounds like boxing’s version of blitz.

No ps3, are you being serious?

The Rocky games sucked. Nice to see that they are at least trying to put something out there, but unless they wrote a completely new engine, this is going to be a poor game.

EA got it all right with Fight Night. Round three still has some of the best graphics for the system, the TPC was revolutionary, the game was realistic, and the gameplay was difficult yet satisfying.
2K is playing big time catch up. You know the graphics will be sub-par since it is 2K, they don’t stand a chance.

Don King is not the type of person i would have included in a good boxing game. That’s like havin “Pacman Jones Presents NFL Football” or somethin.

If this is true that 2k will now stop making games for the ps3 than I think its only right that ea only makes madden and nba live for the ps3

Fight Night is pure garbage. If you believe in 5-second parries, then you truly are a moron. If you think it’s realistic to be able to throw 150 punches per round for 10 rounds without getting tired, then you’re a moron. I have no doubt you are a moron. Even if all 2K did was copy FNR3 exactly but just took out the 5-second parries, 2K would’ve created a much better game than FNR3. Who cares about TPC? It does nothing that buttons cannot do. So what if the Rocky games were terrible? It has absolutely nothing to do with Prizefighter. 2K Sports has kept quiet about Prizefighter for almost 2 years and only now have they opened their mouths. They’ve made some bold statements. 2K’s reputation is hanging on Prizefighter. I have no doubt it will squash FNR3 in 91 seconds flat.

You think it’s REALISTIC to STUN somebody for 5 seconds just by parrying their shot? You think it’s REALISTIC for Marco Antonio Barrera to knock Evander Holyfield out? You think it’s REALISTIC to throw over 1700 punches over the course of 10 rounds? You think it’s REALISTIC for Muhammad Ali & Joe Frazier to walk in to the ring bobbing their heads to hip hop? You think it’s REALSTIC for every fighter to be wearing ghetto, oversized basketball trunks? I bet you do.

Why, so that the PS3 could “get even” with the 360? Look, the main reason the PS3 was left out for Prizefighter is most likely budget constraints. It is widely known that it is extremely difficult and more costly to develop ports for the PS3. Boxing also is not nearly as popular as the NBA or the NFL, and there is no boxing league that can fund a boxing game the way the NBA or the NFL can. 2K Sports is merely making the most of their budget. By leaving out the PS3, they can concentrate on making the best possible boxing game rather than trying to con people the way EA does and make a mediocre boxing game for all consoles.

I actually think fight night 1 was the best one of them all…you could knock someone down but keep punching them if they were caught on the ropes.
The series like all EA games, has gotten stale and they refuse to continue w/ the innovation that opened people’s eyes in the first place. Now EVERY genre EA is in now is better than EA sports.
January 20, 2008 at 11:40 am
I just hope that there will be a realistic approach to defense, the ability to specify a distribution of points for every punch. For example, Larry Holmes had one of the greatest jabs in history, but lacked a powerful right hook. De la Hoya had a ridiculous left hook. I am waiting for a game to implement a punching system so that every boxer will have a weakness. FNR3 was idiotic because you could throw haymakers (boxers never throw them) and you could create boxers who defy physics.
