SCEA has released a set of five new screens from MLB 08: The Show featuring shortstop Miguel Tejada who was recently acquired by the Houston Astros. You can check them out by heading over to the screenshot gallery.

It’ll be interesting to see if this is the start of a series of images spotlighting players on new teams for the coming season. It has been somewhat surprising that The Show has released this many screens along with the feature list so early and in doing so has stolen much of the spotlight away from 2K8. They still even have the cover announcement to come. They’ve done a great job of getting people excited about the game despite there still being nearly three months until it releases.

Is this a PS3 only title?

IGN and others are blocked by my filtering system at work, so I can’t really check myself.

Thanks, Pasta. Guess it’ll be 2K8 for me and my 360 again this year. I greatly enjoyed 2K7 and thought it was a massive upgrade over 2K6. Building upon 2K7 can only make this year’s title even better.

Back when I had a PS2, I was a MLB The Show fan. It was a solid game, but the lack of editing abilities and virtually no control over my roster and positions kind of deterred me. I don’t know if the game has changed in those regards, but the game was a very solid play and was really enjoyable.

    I’ll be satisfied with 2K8, I’m sure.

As an oriole fan, let me say, that looks close to nothing like Tejada, and also as an oriole fan, let me say, the orioles suck… we proved the saying “If you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t trying” wrong.

The Cubs would like to request one Brian Roberts and one Eric Bedard, please. Thank you.

Agreed. The face is completely wrong, and his upper body is way too muscular. Dice-K and A-Rod look pretty spot on in the other screens, so I’m hoping Tejada is an exception and that players are mostly accurately modeled.

It’s odd though that Sony would dispense screens of a player whose model is obviously off. They should choose more wisely.

haha, to In a Nut Sack, i have feeling Bedard will win 20 games a season for MAYBE two more years and then go to the Yankees or Red Sox, i would almost guarantee it.
and to nyr2k2, yeah i think the other players i have seen look great, but the Tejada looks like they took the A Rod model and tweaked it… i mean Miggy is one of the darkest players in the league… he looks greyish brown in that pic

Not trying to advertise for other sites, but IGN PS3 has a few additional screen shots, including one of actual gameplay:
