I think from a console wars perspective, the delay of MGS4 and GTA IV and the impact that it has had on the PS3.

While 360 owners were playing exclusive titles Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3 and PGR 4, PS3 owners were left with multi-console titles that looked and played worse than they did on the 360.

I think the biggest story this year is that the last-gen version of Madden has sold almost as many copies as the next-gen version of Madden despite a lack of advertising, hype, or flashy gimmicks.

I’m stll playing Madden on my PS2 (and apparently over a million others are as well) and I think that should send a message to EA that many of us were happy with the foundation that was layed last-gen, all we really wanted from next-gen was a graphics over-haul and substantial tweaks to an already solid game.

I think the number one story is the return of 2K football.

Hopefully, 2K’s return will nudge EA into creating a Madden game that isn’t rife with problems. Also, the key word is simulation. That means refs on the field, accurate uniforms, active sidelines, and realistic gameplay.

That being said, the NFL license exclusivity nonsense should end. I don’t think people can stomach too many more years of underwhelming Madden games. I really hope EA seriously addresses everything that went wrong with Madden 08.

Football is the greatest sport, and I look forward to all the new football titles, especially All-Pro Football 2K9. Competition raises everyone’s game.
