First Prizefighter screenshots

2K Don King: Prizefighter

10 screens from Don King Presents: Prizefighter have been released providing the first look at the new game. They come from the Xbox 360 version (the Wii and DS will also be seeing the game).

The inevitable comparisons between Prizefighter and Fight Night Round 3 will be made at every step and with these screens brings the first impression that Prizefighter’s graphics are not nearly as impressive.

You can check out the screenshots by visiting the gallery.

Update: At the request of 2K Sports I have removed the images. It appears that these screens may not have been meant for release and how or why they were made available is unknown. However it would be unfair to make any judgments on the game based on screenshots that were not meant for the public. Hopefully 2K will release official screens shortly.

Update #2: Maxconsole has posted confirmation that the screens were in fact from an early build of the game that didn’t include key features, art, and design. 2K is looking into capturing and releasing new images from a current build that they feel represents the game properly.

Update #3: I have received confirmation that the two screenshots now in the gallery were officially released by 2K and come from a more recent build.

PASTA, thanks for linking a forum full of nine year olds…that really proves you point about the graphics. why not link OS board where adults look at things. I completely agree w/ Moose’s assessment of you and this site. all you did is piss on the graphics…what about the robe detail and cornermen and ref and atmosphere that fn doesn’t have???? EA is safe from any critical thought from you though…just look at your love for Tour as an example.

You don’t understand. NOTHING can beat the facial ripple in FNR3, and it is only fitting for Ali and Frazier to wear oversized boxing trunks (who care’s about robes? they’re sooo out of style)and to walk into the ring bobbing their heads to hip hop.

Saint- It aint even worth it, people will always look to bag on something that they don’t like or not up their specifications. It’s amusing to me that these guys come on here calling Pasta a fanboy when that is further from the truth. I mean he is one of the only sites that doesn’t give numbered reviews or advertise on his site like IGN or Gamespot. The man can only work with what he is given, if 2K doesn’t give him info on MLB or NBA 2K8 how can he report on it? EA has given Pasta access to their games in order to spread it to more people 2K can do the same thing they chosen not to maybe it is budget or maybe they like doing things another way who knows.

That right there is a good motive for Pasta to have a bias towards EA.

I guess it could be perceived as that but like I said before I don’t think this site has any agenda against 2K or any other company that is not EA. But I mean really how do you expect him to report on something he has no information about? We are lucky enough as it is to be getting what I think is better info then some of the other sites who will plaster ads of particular games hyping them up as the second coming of [insert great game]. However, I don’t think it is right for us to question whether he is or isn’t a ‘fanboy’, it is a pointless argument and nothing is ever resolved from it, however if it is your opinion then I ask why are you even on this site?

Funny thing is I didn’t care that much for Fight Night like I said earlier. It bored me and the online play was terrible. However the graphics were fantastic, and when you have screenshots thats all that is going to be compared. If you go to the 2K forum there are people questioning if those were from the Wii version. The instant reaction to those screens was not very good although there are the people who will dig into the shots and find things they like about them and theres nothing wrong with that either.

As I stated in my update it wouldn’t be fair to judge the game on screenshots that weren’t meant to be released. 2K will be putting out some new ones due to these developments that they feel better represents Prizefighter, which should tell you that those screens weren’t up to their standards and the game probably looks much better.

You’re right, there’s nothing to report about Prizefighter other than these new screens. The graphical differences between FNR3 and the screenshots of Prizefighter are minor compared to the significant gap in authenticity that Prizefighter has created, at least based on the screenshots. The fact alone that the fighters wear robes is a bigger issue than the graphics. Combined with the highly detailed and realistic arenas, the TV-like camera angles and the inclusion of lesser-known fighters, the graphics are a non-issue. Instead of focusing on the obvious leaps in presentation of Prizefighter made over FNR3 that are demonstrated in these screenshots, Pasta chose to ignore them and made such a meaningless comment about the graphics. If anything, the graphics dept is probably where we’ll see the biggest change from these early screens to the final product, which makes Pasta’s comments even more moot. It was a blurb to downplay the fact that 2K is already off to a great start.

So you’d rather have a couple robes than the overall tremendous graphics of FNR3? I respect everybody’s opninion, but that is ludicrous. Even some of your 2K guys will agree with that I’m sure.

The graphics of FNR3 wasn’t “tremendous.” It was overly dramatic, the lighting was cinematic, not realistic. Every fighter was extremely ripped. Did I mention the choppy framerates? FNR3 has great still pics, but in motion, it almost resembles stop-motion photography.

You’d rather have every fighter wearing oversized basketball shorts, bobbing their heads to hip hop? You’d rather have 5-second parries? I respect everybody’s opinion, but that is ludicrous. Even some of your EA guys will agree with that I’m sure.

p.s. It’s not merely “a couple robes.” Everything in presentation screams quality, the detailed arenas, detailed ring, photographers/camera men around the ring, staredowns, better camera angles, everything. Your comment is typical EA brush off on a game that they can’t outdo. I remember EA’s comment on Gears of War, something like it’s not special or doesn’t do anything new or innovative. Apparently, the whole videogame industry was wrong about Gears of War and only EA had the insight to see that game for what it really was.

The two pics look extremely detailed. I hope that robes are in the game along with personalized entrances with 2K trax so the user can input a segment of their favorite song.

As much as I enjoyed FN Rd 3, EA always seems to leave out the things that add to the realism (robes, entrances, etc.). I also hope that this game has Mike Tyson. Not the current version (Mr. Bite My Ear), I am speaking when Tyson was the most feared human on the planet….

I can’t access the “unofficial” early screens to do a side by side comparison, but from my memory, these two new screens aren’t leaps and bounds better than the early build. If anything, the new images are sharper and more defined and the bodies are more glossy. The lighting has been tweaked also, but it could just be from the angle. I’m very pleased with the graphics. It’s not mind blowing but it’s on par with what’s to be expected for this generation of consoles. We have to see this game in action though, and I’m curious as to what the DS and Wii versions look like.

The fighter in the first screenshot coming forward is Joe Calzaghe, the undisputed super-middleweight world champion from Wales. I can’t tell who the other guy is, it could be Anthony Mundine, another SMW from Australia. The black fighter in the seperate picture is the heavyweight, Ken Norton.
