First, I’ve hit 5-6 home runs in about 10 “games” so far. Only one came on a “power swing.” From what I can tell so far, it’s more of a combination of timing and putting the Plate Coverage Indicator (the yellow circle when playing on Veteran or higher) so that the pitch is fairly centered and/or towards the top of the circle. Getting the solid part of the bat on the ball does more than just pushing square from what I’ve seen.

Downsides, so far, have been few and far between for me. The main two have been mentioned: poor collision detection between players and the sometimes quick change to the next batter after a home run or spectacular play. Both things that, as was mentioned, could be changed by the time the final product is shipped. The other is throwing by position players in that it seems to not respond all that quickly when you need it too. Some of that could just be me not having the timing down yet as well.

I’ve played MVP 05 since it’s release and haven’t found a game that comes close yet – but that looks like it’s about to change in a couple of weeks.
