EA Sports has released the first two screenshots from NCAA Football 09 showing off Xbox 360 cover athlete Darren McFadden. Of course McFadden won’t even be in the game but they have featured him here to coincide with the cover announcement.

I did email in to get confirmation that these are official 09 screens released by EA (they are). They just aren’t all that impressive and I wondered at first if they were legit. If you go back to the first two screens of 08 which had Jared Zabransky and Vanderbilt vs Tennessee those actually looked better than these. I can’t say it concerns me at all though. They’re just early screenshots and last year the game was strong graphically and should be just as solid again this year. Check out the images by clicking the thumbnails below.

Hey pasta if you remember back when 08 was coming out the early screenshots for that game weren’t close to what the game looked like when it was released.

You gotta love the colored goves and cleats. Not sure why under the sleeves looks extra shiny.

I could care less about the graphics as long as we have outstanding gameplay, and ALL the features from NCAA 06 (cough cough alternate jerseys, bowl patches, college atmosphere, etc..)

I’t kind of weird how I enjoyed Madden on my Wii waaaaay more than on my 360 because of how much content they put into the game, and the innovative control scheme.

Is this finally the year EA will get it right and give us a next gen title that we can actually compare to the games we’d play on ps2 in terms of gameplay and content?

I hope they fix the colors on the jerseys this year. On 360 they were to shiny, but that is only a minor issue compared to all the other things that need fixing. Sidelines, atmosphere, 1-aa schools. I will continue to beat this dead horse until it stands up walks away!

lol still no refs on the field or field goal nets…..priceless I wonder if consumers are smarter this year to sit back and not flock to buy this stuff…and wait.

how do you know orly? they usually only have the nets up in a real game for kicks and you cant even tell if refs are on the field in those pictures.

It could just be me but I am excited as hell of the look of it. I’ve been praying for the look/feeling of the ps2 days. And just by looking at these 2 screens I can already tell by the look of the player models, that it will have that ps2 feeling.

The players dont look stiff like next gen models have been. They look like they have some bend to them.

    Could just be me.

Dude whats does it really matter if a fg net is up or not? Does it really effect your gaming? Same thing with the ref’s. (Who cares?)

I’d be 100x much more concerned with having better gameplay than worrying about FG nets.

That should be on the bottom of everyones lists.

True. But I’d say its at the bottom of the list because its something people would expect would be in the game regardless.

I’m with you on not stressing out over it, but I can understand why it bothers people.

Does McFadden’s helmet look a little lopsided or oblong in that pic?

  • Eski

I actually think the screens look good. The numbers don’t look pixelated as they did in last year’s game.

As long as the game plays well, the graphics can be a tad less impressive…

typical talk of a consumer who settles for less with EA products. hey common sense says if you miss the little issues? the big issues are gone as well

theres something called Quality control? you see its a football game supposed to be if its in the game its in the game? um..they have nets and refs in real life put it in there..how hard of a concept is it for people to have…same thing as well with the uniforms? “its not a big issue” “i dont know how this is a big issue” and yet the first ones to the wish lists are guess what the EA consumers? how bout go over and beyond the expectation and finally put whats supposed to be in there? this is why i dont buy anymore because of that..to many consumers dont want whats good for themselves.

I actually think the pics look good. Something about them makes me think it’s gonna run smoothly. I hope to not see robotic animations as in recent EA Sports titles.

I agree that field goal nets and refs add to the realism but if a person refuses to puchase a game without these things then that is somewhat shallow.

I would rather see pre-game and post game analysis and highlights; team-specific entrances; and what about marching bands at half time, or pre-game blaring the national anthem????

Again, I am not disagreeing that those items should be in the game, but it is not something I pay attention to…

i’m not super big on graphics (although i always see them as a major plus) but man…

*blugh* that second picture is horrendous when you look at the way his arms come out/off of his uniform/pads/body

but if the new animation engine makes this game run better (bundled with a bunch of new animations this game is in desperate need of) i’ll be one happy camper

Heard through someone who works for an FCS (I-AA) team, that when EA contacted their university to get NCAA 09 artwork approved, the EA person said that FCS teams will only be included in the the PS2 game again and not PS3 or 360. Can you confirm?

I think this was one on the most disappointing thing about last years game.

Somebody, anybody, Please Please Please tell me those ARE NOT 360 screenshots. C’mon EA. The linemen calves are bigger than their thighs. For those that say “I don’t really care about the graphics as long as the gameplay is good”, get real. Better graphics was the main reason for buying the 360. That would be like having a “Black and white” HDTV and saying “I don’t care about the color as long as the picture is clear”.

lol you just emphasized exactly what i was talking about you see? Um..no shallow is going out spending 60 bucks on the same product every year that just has a roster update and one liner features..the irony of your suggestion is playing down the idea of no nets or field goal nets as basically friveless and unecessary when in reality thats the same thing about the pregame or” NATIONAL ANTHEM” as well of course everyones excuse is As long as the game play is good? who cares..and thats why there are many people come july and september after the release run right back to the wish lists.

listen ive said it before and ill say it again..when you over look one thing, you over look everything thats why you dont have good pregame good atmosphere or anything that should be in the game…is refs and nets worthless to a person who settles for less yes.but i believe that if i am dishing out 120 bucks i want all of that in there and i dont care what anyone else says on here that is the truth not opinion.and that is exactly why its been a good 3 years now on xbox 360 and core things are missing its simple..to put in..and if it isnt i wouldnt get it. and the reason why is i want quality i want exactly is in real life..if it is half assed like past years? why bother.

not that im attacking you i dont do that crap..im just telling the truth. those things are simple just put them in..same issue with the uniforms last year.just laziness and the inablity in a developing company to want whats good for themselves..i find it funny thought that the very people who condemded what i said with it being trivial and blown to the waste side..get right on here months down the line complaining about something little in detail..im just tellin it like it is..im out..peace you all.

how can you criticize these early March screens of not having refs or nets? how would you even see a ref in these shots and don’t nets come up during kicks.

I know EA has a history but damn. Coming down on those issues based on these screens just doesn’t make sense

So what you are saying is if they made the same game as last years but put Fg nets and ref’s you would be happy?lol

You will never EVER get everything you want into a VIDEO GAME, so thats were I think your problem is. But I’m sure there is more of a population that is more concerned with gamplay/online issues than worrying about a net that you see when you are attempting a fg.

If they had to listen to all these little things then it would take time away from the bigger issue’s that matter IMO. Cause it would never end with Fg nets/ refs there woud be hand towels, pop corn in the stands, golf carts that are on the sideline…………ect…… Im sure every 1 person has something they could add to the list .

But what I am trying to get at is most buy the game to play and have fun. And not everyone inspect’s the heck out of everything. I say let them worry about the bigger issues (FIRST) Gameplay/Online/Atmospher and once those are good worry about the little details after.
