EA Sports has released new screenshots from NCAA Football 09 showing off stadium improvements. Specifically displayed is the field textures, stadium lighting, and environments.
The improvement is immediately apparent and quite drastic. These screens have NCAA 08 on top with NCAA 09 on bottom. Continue on to view the images and a brief description of the changes that have been made.
Field Textures: “One thing we’re really proud of this year is our field textures. The level of detail has improved quite a bit. You’ll actually be able to see the difference between grass and synthetic turf, which is something that’s totally new. We also have field degradation, so the field will see realistic wear and tear during the course of a game.
Stadium Lighting: “In years past our stadium lighting has been really dark for the dusk games. This year we have separate lighting controls for the environment and the player, so when the player goes into a shadow, you’ll still see the same level of detail you’d see in the full sun.”
Fans: “Home stadiums have never felt more alive. In the past our crowd colors used to be more mixed with neutral colors, but this year we’re showing off the home crowd’s colors in a big way. Inside the stadiums it’s very clear which fans are supporting which team. There are pockets in the stadiums with sections full of visiting team fans.”
Other: “There are a lot of other detail related things we’ve done to make the stadiums feel more authentic. There is fog that adds more depth to the fields in the larger stadiums, mow lines during snow games, and more dramatic skies that help to improve the environments.”

Looks Good. I just hope online has night , dusk , day, snow, and rain games.
April 11, 2008 at 5:45 pm
man those look incredible. I knew that the weather especially could be worked on but I didnt know the lighting could make such a big difference

Yeah no kidding. I’m going to be frustrated if not. It was especially lame last year considering they had the Weather Channel feature and didn’t utilize it for online.

it would be nice if they would add crowd chants like the have in march maddness.and also band sections in the crowd.

I think they may be doing some of that. Recently the NCAA team was asking around for sounds that are specific to stadiums/teams as they’re looking to improve the stadium sound experience.

Gameplay will probaly still be crap, EA focuses on all the wrong stuff. Fix animation and gameplay then work on graphical touches. Thast why EA’s game have been craptastic the last few years. They focus on fluff 1st and hype the hell out of fluff. Then they get your money, and you never hear from them again when it comes to gameplay, glitches, and animation. Then you have EA hypeman ‘PP’ saying Facebreakers scrap environments are cool, but then when another company not EA doesnt something different, its always… ‘disappointing’. Paste you should stop being EA’s handpuppet.

Those screens look a lot better. Looks like they put a lot of time into the detail too.
April 11, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Wow, Neyland looks beautiful (despite lacking it’s updated, encircling video scoreboard screens and proper entrance tents)! Nighttime Death Valley is very impressive as well. Man, EA always finds a way to get me hyped up. Hopefully the gameplay will be much improved as well.
April 11, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Nice to see the snow & shadows on the field get improved. Playing in either on 08 was a pain.
These screens look really impressive. The skyline in the Washington (Husky Stadium) shot is awesome.
April 11, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Wow! Syracuse is very impressive with the dome lighting. This looks ,dare I say, next gen.

I have no idea why this comment was left. NCAA Football is one franchise that has played well every year (NCAA 07 gets a pass)….. It has lacked in features but not gameplay….
April 11, 2008 at 7:14 pm
What severe gameplay problems are there with NCAA? I always thought that it played well, not great but good.
As for those screens they look great. Graphics may not be the most important part of a game but things like weather and stadium atmosphere really add to the whole experience. I for one am glad to see them working on it.

Yeah it was the best overall football game last year though it did have its share of problems. Gameplay wise for me it mainly centered on the number of INTs that the CPU threw. I think they addressed that some in the patch that came out but I was done playing it by that point. I’m also looking forward to it being more wide open in general this year it just didn’t have much of that excitement that should be there.
April 11, 2008 at 7:36 pm
First of all Pasta for you to have to tell us which is 08 and 09 is a PROBLEM for me…You shouldn’t have to tell me…I should see the difference..In fact the top pictures look as good or better to me.
EA is warming up the ole HYPE machine again and we are gonna fall for it HOOK, LINE & SINKER
April 11, 2008 at 7:45 pm
the new shots are amazing especially having them right next to the ones from last year. those might be the best looking settings and details in a sports game yet. im even more excited now
April 11, 2008 at 8:08 pm
NCAA has been miles ahead of Madden for a few years now. Still has its problems, but it’s not really close IMO.
Screens look really good – the lighting in particular. I think the field textures look a little cartoony, but it’s an improvement.
Interested to see if they are able to get the lighting and weather affects looking that nice without affecting the framerate.
April 11, 2008 at 8:08 pm
these shots look great and this will be the year(i know every one says every year) that the next one will be the best but i have a feeling this one is gonna really satisfy a lot more people
April 11, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Wow looks tight!!!!
April 11, 2008 at 11:06 pm
I just wanted to know were did you get the idea of having the two images side by side from 20008 and 2009 to show people that major diffrent…… Like how you have the QB FROM 2008 IMAGE NEXT TO 2009 IMAGE TO SHOW THE ARMS DIFFRNENT?
April 12, 2008 at 3:38 am
J.R. you are obviously a redneck who’s lacking some
booty and are angry at the world.
Thus you come online and find an outlet kicking pasta
is your deal, hey that’s fine I suppose Pasta’s a big boy he can take it I’m sure, however allow me to point out a few things, seen as though you thought you “won” whatever that means.
First NCAA has been solid, not perfect but solid.
Madden has been the craptacular second seed, when insulting people you need to not make yourself look ignorant, a few cases that highlight my point:
1) “Thast why EA’s game have been craptastic the last few years.” hmm seems like someone was in too much of a hurry to correct “thats” huh
2)Then you have EA hypeman ‘PP’ saying Facebreakers scrap environments are cool, but then when another company not EA doesnt something different, its always… scrap? doesn’t something different?..hmm
3)This one is my favorite example of you making yourself an ass..Great debate skills there Pasta, youre grade school comeback gets you some brownie points on the playground.
OK you are trying to debate or try and lure pasta into a
war of words on his site, there’s a simple solution son if you dont like his opinions get the hell off the site and go to one more suited to your likings not crying on a site just trying to keep you INFORMED!
oh BTW you’re is you are, YOUR is what you where looking for junior. Brownie points on the playground?..umm grow up man..lol
April 12, 2008 at 6:30 am
Looks really good and the best part is July is right around the corner.
April 12, 2008 at 6:36 am
this is nice and good but um…where are the field goal nets and refs? that usually at the game? so its just gonna be up to the players to call their own penalties? and for the fans to catch every ball after the pat?
April 12, 2008 at 7:24 am
the Syracuse picture is sick!
April 12, 2008 at 8:33 am
The Carrier Dome looks really awesome! Too bad we’ve sucked since McNabb left us.
There’s always next year!!! errr, maybe 2011…
April 12, 2008 at 8:59 am
neyland is sick!!!!
April 12, 2008 at 9:08 am
I just want to feel like I’m immersed in the College experience like in NCAA 07 for the PS2. I like the slowdown feature if your player was in the zone an helped in his getting away from the defence.
April 12, 2008 at 9:08 am
I hope Boise State’s expansion to 32,000 and Wake’s Deacon Tower make it into the game.
April 12, 2008 at 9:35 am
i personnaly think 08 looked better
April 12, 2008 at 10:19 am
hey pasta i know its really too early to ask this but do u think that when madden features start being released we can expect the new stadiums and player models like ncaa 09 is doing
April 12, 2008 at 11:13 am
If you look at the snow picture and look on the midfield logo you can see the refs. Also field goal nets usually dont go up until you kick a FG so who knows if there in there.
April 12, 2008 at 11:54 am
I agree with some of the negative comments. Although, the fields look MUCH better… they need to fix the running animation and gang tackling before they touch anything else.
The players run like messed up robots (Asimo). It doesnt look real. And the running animation is better on the PS2! Can’t they take that motion capture footage over to the 360!?!?
If you have played APF (first 2k football title i have ever purchased)… then you know what real gang tackling is all about (and real route running and running in general). I have been down with EA sports since 1989. But its getting ridiculous. Fix the tackling. Fix the running.
April 12, 2008 at 1:02 pm
I see empty seats in the Navy pic. Sweet.
April 12, 2008 at 1:09 pm
hey i know this doesnt really have to do with the stadiums but do you know if they are goin to have the spring game and stuff in the game? thanks and keep the updates comin pasta
April 12, 2008 at 2:47 pm
These pics are really really good. From my perspective I think the lighting is the best of all the stadium things they have done. Thanks Pasta for keeping me imformed. Keep puting stuff on here
April 12, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Pasta, got a question for you..I’m sure you remember how in last gen’s versions of Madden you could see footprints, water splashing, dirt & mud kicking up in rain or snow games. Have you heard anything about these things being added yet. I thought that those little things added a ton of realism to weather games. I’ve been saying this for the past 3 years since making the switch to next gen. I think that the foot planting needs major work in both Madden and Ncaa. We should no longer see any player sliding or skating at all. Have you heard about any improvements being made in this area?
April 13, 2008 at 8:23 am

Haven’t heard any specifics other than what is already known yet.

No I haven’t but from the one snow comparison shot up there it looks like the part of the field that has had the most traffic is noticeable so that is encouraging on that front.

Well there will be the 1st round draft screenshots on draft day. But more specific things will start to come probably the week after the draft.
April 13, 2008 at 10:25 am
Are those next or last gen screens because the BC one was a tad on the sloppy side.
April 13, 2008 at 11:35 am
yo some people have their opinions but there is honestly nothing wrong with these stadiums
April 13, 2008 at 2:32 pm
http://www.easports.com/ncaa09/media.jsp?contentID=screen11 Is that Clemson against BC in purple?

are you retarded? maybe you had them flip-flopped? idk what your problem was. 09 looks awesome and will even play awesome. he gone.
April 13, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Everything looks pretty darn good to me..ps3 gameplay was pretty abysmal last year but still playable..hopefully they bring back empty seats in some staduims..and see things like the tomahawk chop..gator chomp..etc..also updated team specific fight songs would be nice..they leave alot of that out in places like Michigan..OSU..Wisconsin..the list goes on….i dont wanna be one of those guys that wants EVERYTHING in a game..just some better updates..ON WISCONSIN!!!
April 13, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Pasta do you know anything about wether they will have night games in campus legend cause it wasnt in 08
April 13, 2008 at 8:47 pm
yo pasta,
have they said anything about create-a-team
April 14, 2008 at 5:38 pm
i like what I am seeing. Great stuff, however, no refs and chain gangs visible. oh well, I can deal with it because the stadiums look much better.
April 15, 2008 at 9:46 am
as long as the players dont run like they have an egg up their ass like they did last year, I’ll be cool. Last years game sucked SO HARD its impossible to believe they released that game!
April 15, 2008 at 10:47 am
The Nets and Refs have not been in the game since it went Next Gen. Hopefully they will add it this year. You would think that they would add the refs in first before more people on the sidelines.
Nonetheless, the screens look pretty good. And I do like the fact that there are empty seats. IMO you have to EARN sell out crowds.
