Commentators and new Madden 09 features revealed

Thanks to the official press release regarding the selection of Brett Favre for the cover of Madden 09 we now have the first idea of some big features in the game. The likely NFL Network duo of Tom Hammond and Cris Collinsworth will be featured as the commentators for Madden 09 and online leagues have been added.

Madden NFL 09 strives to take authenticity and depth of gameplay to an new level with more than 85 new features and enhancements, including the all-new Total Control Animation system. This system will allow players to perform combination moves like never before and includes an innovative picture-in-picture playcall window. In Madden NFL 09, the game engine is continually assessing the player’s performance and will adapt a custom experience to every type of gamer, from newcomer to the veteran Madden NFL player.

Madden NFL 09 will also feature a network-inspired broadcast presentation. Players will benefit from the authentic football knowledge of an in-booth play-by-play and color commentary team featuring Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond. In addition, numerous graphical enhancements have been made, including realistic weather and grass, sleeker player models and exterior stadium views.

Madden NFL 09 gives gamers the ability to create online leagues. Fans can now take their rivalries online and compete in leagues with up to 32 teams. Online league play will feature in-depth stat tracking and a flexible scheduling option.

Seems like a good choice for commentators. Regardless of who they went with some people weren’t going to like them but there were some possibilities that would’ve been much worse. After finding out all the details regarding online dynasty in NCAA Football 09 I’m encouraged that the online leagues in Madden will have all the options and flexibility that would be necessary.

EA/Tiburon: Spectator mode!!! Get 'ir done! It would be sooooo awesome for online leagues. Or for the PS3 add the new Youtube support. That would be cool to upload games to youtube. Cool thing about this, it's possible for developers to patch this feature into games already out.

Madden needs this feature for online games..." Live look in" so you can watch any of your friends on your list games...Now you can just see the scores of your friends. How cool would it be to watch their gm live as they play it..Just a thought.

I give EA some respect, although they have made some great games, they still lack the ability to create a good madden game.

im happy they got brett on the front of one of these games. its about damn time. he has 3 mvps, u think he would already be on one. vince young wuz on 08 and he was the worst quarterback last year. when i buy this game its probably all im gonna play for a loong time

They need to let you go after coaches that are on other staffs. 98% of coaches that get hired are on current staffs, and in 08 it only let you go after the people whose contracts were up. Thats really unrealistic. Please change that shiitt. Also change the glitch that made everyone's age go up 2 or 3 years if you changed there uniform number.. i had to have some o-lineman be #1 cuz i couldn't change it lol. peace. philly represent!!!

wow just saw sum pics of the rookies on their team in madden 09 and it looks great the coach is always walking the sideline instead of a cut scene and there is captain patches on the jerseys

What a piece of crappy new features. Weather changes? That was in the old Madden. All EA is doing is shuffling features around every year, add an update to the roster and call it a new game and sell it for full price. They'll probably remove something from 08 that everyone hasn't complained about and put it back in next year.

Those are small items that have enhanced gameplay, the list of features (as in game modes and bigger name things) will be released as the game gets closer to release, in the next couple of days, and on GameStop Madden Mondays.

I see that list posted above and I've been told its just back of the box info for the retail placeholder boxes. So the info there is legit.

Basically just know it isn't anywhere near the full list of features.

'09 LOOKS FREAKING AMAZING, but i'm worried it's the EA hype-monster. i guess we'll find out a few weeks after launch.

Disappointed that there aren't any classic teams or have the ability to play the original Maddens from the Apple and Genesis.

Also, EA Sports has a cool video of Favre in most of the Madden games he has appeared in. From sprites to polygons, it is awesome....
