Taking a page out of the wildly successful customization aspect in Forza 2, EA Sports is bringing the “Paint Booth” feature to Nascar 09. This will give players a way to completely customize their cars and race with them in the game. They’ll even transfer into online racing.

Utilizing the all-new Paint Booth feature, NASCAR fans can now take in-game personalization to the next level by giving users the ability to completely customize their car from start to finish. In addition, for the first time in franchise history, a car customization template is available online which creates endless possibilities for personalization. Players will be able to see their friends custom designed car skins when racing against them online.

The online connectivity of Paint Booth allows players to download a car template from easports.com and import it into editing programs, such as Photoshop, giving users a multitude of design options. They can then upload those images into the game and show off their dream machine on the track.

You can check out demos of the feature here at the game’s official website.

This is the most complicated and silly thing i have ever seen. Papyrus had a much simpler, better way of creating cars. I really wish ea sports did not buy the nascar liscense because papyrus made the most sim like games i have ever played. I still play nascar racing 2003 and it is much better than anything ea will ever put out there. I also am a big gpl fan as well. I hope the papyrus team will come back some day and give us another pc racing sim. Those were the glory days.

My biggest complaint about the NASCAR games… and why I will never buy another one… is that they have not put any difficulty levels in the game (to my knowledge.. my last one was 2005). It’s set at “other drivers will drive perfect lines and if you can’t do that you are screwed”. So the game is pretty worthless to me. I don’t mind losing or a challenge, but I’d like to see some of the other drivers suck and cause accidents. One mistake and I’m pretty much out of the race. The best driving game I’ve played… where it gives you a sense of achievement at 5 levels of difficulty has been the Project Gotham series. You can actually finish the game on any of 5 different levels. So even if you can’t drive at a “platinum” level, you can still try for the lower level awards and actually finish the game. I wish more games would take player skill into account like that.

have been disappointed with this game since 2005… adding a way to make paint schemes isn’t going to fix the game’s AI issues or lack of decent career mode. Why have modifieds been left out for the last couple of years?

Leaving out the 4 Manufactures and having just 1 generic make of car is more evidence that this game does not get better with every year it gets worse.
I am still playing 2004…and will continue too until they actually get someone who knows Nascar working on this title.

    Cheers

OK… I tried playing 2005 again last night to see if I’ve gotten any better since driving Project Gotham for a while and the answer is NO. I’m still in the Featherlight series in my “career”, so I raced about 4 races last night. i would usually practice the track a few laps… then qualify… then race. Even my best laps would still qualify me dead last. So that’s where I started every race.while occasionally I’d hold 21st place for a lap or two (out of 22)… the rest of the pack easily outdistanced me with their nearly picture-perfect driving… and that’s where they stayed. sActually, the end results would usually show very little movement from pole positions to finishline positions.

I did notice that the controller was much less responsive than my PGR racers. Perhaps having a wheel would help… but I do pretty well in PGR.

So I’m not the only one with these problems? A simple “difficulty slider” would fix this game for me.

uhhhhhh…. not to be a dick, but you probably just are not very good at the game…

i have never had any problem destroying the competition at the featherlight level.

sorry dude, it is you, not the game.

Phantom… you prove my point. I suck and you don’t (again… for some reason I feel I have a lot more control in PGR). But because they don’t have any difficulty sliders the game is totally worthless to me. So because of that… I don’t buy another copy.. and they lose revenue. It’s just plain silly to not have difficulty levels because at that point you are marketing to a much smaller group of people.

Just curious… are you talking about NASCAR 2005 and do you use a wheel? I’ve never used a driving wheel. Do they really make a lot of difference?

yes, i am talking about nascar ‘05, but i do not use a wheel. i have always wanted to, but i am not willing to shell out money for something i can only use for certain games.

i do understand what you are saying about sliders and whatnot. it would be smart if EA put them in. i don’t know, maybe they are in by now? i haven’t played any recent versions.

about my l33t driving skillzzzz. i grew up around racing. every saturday=racetrack when i was little. so it just makes sense to me. fortunately i got out, went to college, and graduated from track-side saturdays, but i would like a decent game.

The paint booth is the best thing that EA Sports has done for NASCAR 09. I say it is pretty much bad ass!!!!
