Madden 09 Uniform Blog

Something that has been taken note of over the past few days is the immediate response to community suggestions. Things like toning down the camera flashes, adding a kick return play with a single returner back, making the weather affect play more, and turning off the passing icons when a QB drops back too far all appear as though they may be acted upon for Madden 09 despite the time constraints.

One topic that has been discussed not only lately, but over the past few years has been uniform inaccuracies. This year they made it a point to improve in that area, bypassing the official style guides supplied by the NFL and going off of video and pictures of what the teams wore last year. When screenshots started coming out fans still noticed some things were off. The Cowboys helmet star was too big, the Chiefs were missing their AFL patch and the numbers were on jersey shoulders not the sleeves, the Steelers had single digit numbers off to the side of the stripe on their helmet instead of on the stripe, and the Ravens and 49ers needed black shoes. That was just the first batch of feedback EA received.

Matt Read, a designer for Madden, has posted up a blog detailing some of the fixes that were made based on community feedback. Click here to check out the blog and corresponding screenshots displaying the corrected uniforms.

I sure hope that they had time to fix the Seahawks classic helmets…Last year, the helmets were a mess. I would say that the inaccuracies regarding the Seahawks classic helmets far more disturbing than that of another team’s socks being wrong.

My expectation when using classic uniforms is to bring back memories of those days when the uniforms were worn. The Seahawks classic jerseys reminded me that I am playing a video game…..I want immersion….

Outside of that, I am appreciative that EA is really taking customer feedback to a new level this year.

Now if we can get EA to do the same with Live and NCAA March Madness….

Im glad they decided to fix the uniforms, but what about the socks? Why does everyone in madden wear high socks? The only player i really seen wearing those were reggie. Pasta is their anyway you could tell them about that? As far as different players wearing socks and different color underarmour?

If they were to ever include the neon gloves for the Seahawks, this game would be well worth over $60 dollars to me.

Yeah, but I don’t think they were going to be able to get colored gloves in this year. We’ll push for that next year cause I think it would be cool to see the team specific gloves. Plus I’d love to see the neon green shoes that Walter Jones, Seneca Wallace, and Julian Peterson wear.

Another positive sign. As I’ve said, EA needs to possess a passion for details. Madden 09 is raising the bar. It’s great to see.

It’s still interesting that despite the exclusivity deal with the NFL, EA has to bypass the league and appeal directly to the community for help.

I think that’s great, but seriously, why can’t the NFL just supply EA with current pictures? Wasn’t the exclusivity deal supposed to open up new levels of cooperation? Something to ponder.

Anyway, EA is really listening to the community, though. It’s refreshing.

Why should the passing icons turn off automatically if someone drops back to far? They should just make the passes inaccurate.

I think he’s probably referring to getting down errors and corrections as the year progresses so that they can be fixed for 2010. I don’t know if they would do uniform fixes in a patch.

If you look at the superstar mode video I put up yesterday, near the end when I’m controlling Chris Long the Eagles are the opposing team, so you might be able to get a look there and see. I didn’t notice anything specifically wrong with their uniforms.

Your somewhat right Zack, another issue i have is the throwing distance the qb is able to throw even though they are 10 20 yards back of the line of scrimmage, we all know 50, 60, 70 yard throws dont happen normally so I think fatigue should be a big part of how far the ball gets thrown especially if some jack online sprints out of the pocket, that and the disappering icons would make it a lot more realistic. Please pasta have EA fix the Niners classic helmet, this helmet is legendary how could they not get that right.
