I came across this new trailer the other day for Blood Bowl. I had taken notice of earlier screenshots but didn’t really know how much it would apply itself as a sports game other than it incorporated football to some extent. However after watching the trailer it looks like it will come across being a fantasy RTS and sports hybrid. It is difficult to know how much it may appeal to the sports gaming crowd though.
Continue on to check out the trailer and leave your thoughts in the comments. Scheduled to release later this year on the 360, is Blood Bowl something that could potentially interest you?

What a dumb game. This game rivals the likes of Facebreaker in stupidity.
June 27, 2008 at 10:37 am
this is what happens when no one else can make a nfl football game…games like this come out…o well it might be ok
June 27, 2008 at 10:43 am
The teaser instantly made me feel as if you might play this game the way we used to play Dragon’s Lair. Anyone else think that?
June 27, 2008 at 11:08 am
I have to be honest and say that game looks like complete garbage.
June 27, 2008 at 11:26 am
Good now those annoying kids who are alwayz online will have something else to do

Actually the difference is Facebreaker is a knockoff of that awful Sega Dreamcast Boxing game. This however could play on Mutant League Football for those of us who are nostalgic. If you’re not old enough to have played MLF then you wont understand.

Oh yeah, I remember Mutant League Football. It’s ironic that it was made by EA.

June 27, 2008 at 12:17 pm
I don’t know what the hell I just saw but I will check this game out for sure.
June 27, 2008 at 12:19 pm
WOW! just what we need; another remake of Jerry Glanvilles pigskin football, only using World of Warcraft like characters.
Some how I don’t think crossing genres like this is going to make sports fans like WoW and it certainly won’t make WoW geeks like sports.
Nice gimmick though but i think i will stick to Madden.
June 27, 2008 at 12:54 pm
With all thats going on… It leaves me w/ one conclusion…
This game must be made by EA LOL.
Smells real fish here Pasta, tell you father Peter that this is a bad idea.
June 27, 2008 at 12:54 pm
What company would even allow this game to be released

Ha no offense taken. I only posted this cause I was curious what people thought and I had expected to be posting a ton of Live content but am now held back on that.

muntant football 2008 LoL
June 27, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Doesn’t look that bad. But with all the great games coming out this year I can’t see myself getting this game. I would play it if I got it for free though.
June 27, 2008 at 5:58 pm
It’s funny that people hate so much that they completely neglect the fact that the actual developers are shown at the beginning of the trailer.
That and many people must not remember mutant league football which was an awesome game. This is reminiscent of that game so I think it’s something to keep an eye on. Not everything has to be a simulation does it?
June 27, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Looks very interesting. Dunno if any of that is computer generated or actual gameplay.
Reminds me of Mario Strikers Soccer on the Wii. [which was a pretty good game in its own right]
It’s targetting towards the younger generation of gamers.
June 27, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Games Workshop was responsible for Mutant League Football just like this one, and the Warhammer fantasy and 40k table top and computer games.
June 27, 2008 at 7:48 pm
I think this will be interesting at least. It looks great anyway. One of the most puzzling things about EA is that they HAVEN’T brought Mutant League back. I actually just gave my copy of BloodBowl to a hardcore Warhammer friend of mine. It’s more for collecting because the game itself is painfully tedious. But having it in video game form just makes sense.
It seems like some of you don’t realize this, but this game is based on a board game that takes place in the “Warhammer” universe (not Warcraft).
June 27, 2008 at 9:39 pm
well, the grass looks freakin’ awesome at least…
June 28, 2008 at 12:54 am
I think it could be a good game. I might pick it up.
June 28, 2008 at 3:14 pm
I love almost all sports games, and I even played this game when I was younger. I will definately give it a chance. For those of you that don’t have time for strategy, go drool in front of your TV after you put Madden into your gaming console of choice.
June 28, 2008 at 6:42 pm
I’m sort of interested and I think this might be cool. Of course, I also think that people(supposedly “grown” men) attack others maturity for trying to find some entertainment value in a non-EA sports game. Neway, I’d be interested in more information on this game and Backbreaker, which looks really sick. If I had more money, I’d try to get both of those after I buy Madden(but $60 a game for four football titles, plus Blitz II, two of which will have been completely replaced next year is expensive). As it stands, assuming I ever acquire enough extra cash, I’ll just be buying Backbreaker or NCAA 09 as a companion to Madden.
Since I brought up Blitz 2, are any of you guys going to consider picking up that?
June 28, 2008 at 10:56 pm
I find entertainment in coaching football…my profession. One loss in two years. Four years of coaching, five losses. Defense wins championshi….screw defense; I am an offensive coordinator.
June 29, 2008 at 8:07 am
i guarantee everyone on this website that the game looks absolutly nothing like that trailer. they definitly juiced up the trailer to look good (like the NBA Live games). that game is gonna be horrible
June 29, 2008 at 9:32 am
If you watch the trailer you can see parts that are actual gameplay. It will be a strategy game with CGI cut scenes.
June 30, 2008 at 11:06 am
this game isnt trying to be big i dont think it wants to be a huge hit maybe little kids will play i think the creators didnt really want to make this game a huge hit
June 30, 2008 at 11:59 am
The schism between hardcore sports fans and their distaste for other forms of gaming – RPG’s and the like is pretty damn funny
Don’t want to get all existential here, but the difference between pushing 1″ pixels around that simulate people and pushing 1″ pixels around that simulate trolls and the like is not that great. I understand that one is simulating “real” and the other make believe – but ultimately the console platform dictates it’s all entertainment and fantasy
That said – game might make for a fun rental if it comes to consoles. Looking forward to the WAR MMO for sure tho’

Fox… I’ll give Blitz a look. I actually liked Blitz League 1… except for the fact that the gameplay sucked so badly! hunh? I’ll explain. I loved the whole “storyline” concept. I loved the art direction, I loved the history they created for the league (you could read about each team and player online) and how all the characters had personalities, even each team had a personality. They did a great job of that. It’s just when you actually tried to play the game that it sucked. I was probably spoiled by how tight the gameplay was on 2k5 where you felt like you actually controlled the game. Blitz was just so out of control and chaotic. (I actually did finish a 9 game season and made it to the second “tier”, though)
I also liked the humor in it. You’d see a guy snap his femur and it said he’d be out for 2 quarters. That’s a tough SOB.
So anyway… yeah, i’ll give Blitz a look. I just hope they tighten the on-the-field action.

Let's get it straight, WoW rips off Games Workshop designs, not the other way around. Blood Bowl has been around as a tabletop boardgame for almost 25 years and has a huge and active base of players.
