NBA Live 09 Secret Feature Revealed

The San Jose Mercury News has leaked the first details on the secret feature for NBA Live 09 that will be officially announced at the EA press conference this afternoon. I will wait until after that announcement is made before posting more specifics on what it is all about along with my personal thoughts. As stated in my hands-on the feature was presented for literally two hours so it is much more in-depth than just a single paragraph can describe. Until then you can take in the following information.

EA plans to announce today that the latest version of its “NBA Live” game will include a constantly updated artificial intelligence.

Whenever users log on to the game, the title will connect to the Internet to download data from the latest NBA games, including such details as whether a player like Kobe Bryant is taking more shots from the left or the right side of the floor and his relative success from each spot. The game will use such information to affect how the virtual Kobe Bryant plays in “NBA Live” and how he is guarded.

AWESOME!!!
This is sweet, I just played some 08 today. Live might give 2k a run for it's money this year.

Sounds great if they can get it work perfectly....Knowing EA's track record, I find that highly doubtful.
because of all the news that has come out on NBA 2K9? lol seriously, its not like there has been news for sports games other than the ea ones lately. there has been nothing on nba or nhl 2k9 since the last time pasta had stories about them. not sure if you want him to just fabricate stories on them? hes mentioned other games that will be at e3 this week so id expect he'll cover those depending on what comes out of it.
Feel free to show me where he mentions a non-ea game, other than UFC.

It is his site, he can cover what he wants. I'm not bashing him. Just saying he does it with an EA tint to his eyes.

All you guys talking crap about Pasta should knock it off. 1st of all this thread isn't even about NCAA 09 it's about NBA Live's feature. 2nd, you guys are going to ruin it for us all in the future. Pasta said that he does this site just as a hobby so it's not like he works for EA or like he's getting paid to have this site up. He was kind enough to provide the rosters & all of this info so how about growing up and showing some respect. Nobody's perfect guys & it's not that serious.
He may not work directly for EA but if you don't think he is a bit of a EA fanboy, you are blind. Sure Pasta is critical of EA at times, but the majority of his articles and info slant in favor of EA and their products.

I had to go through 9 pages of posts to find one article on a non-EA game other than the UFC one. Otherwise, there is more or less an EA article every day.

You will notice he doesn't even have the roster issue promently featured on his site.
My point is there's a way to go about it. Bashing him on his own site definately isn't the way to do it. How about asking him in a respectful way instead of acting like 12 year olds & bashing him. You're right, Pasta seems to preview a lot of EA games but maybe that's because EA grants him a lot of access to early material. I'm sure if EA invited you to their studios to preview a game most of us would jump all over it. As far as the roster issues, I'm sure he's investigating that as we speak. The game isn't even officially out yet. How about everybody calm down & be patient. Pasta is probably hesitant to give us info now because a lot of people are bashing him. I don't always agree with everything Pasta says but I do appreciate this site for the info so lets not ruin it for us all.

its a bunch of 2k and ncaa idiots

NBA rewind??

"which will allow players to play any game that happened between two teams for this last year's season as well as the upcoming year's season with the way that each player was performing at that point in time. Not only will you be able to return to one of these previous games and attempt to see if you could have played the game better than it happened in real life, you'll be able to see just how the team developed or diminished across the entire season and see if you can rewrite history. What's more, the stats and gameplay elements that happen in real life will be translated for players, so if Baron Davis, Kobe Bryant and Rip Hamilton get injured, the game will reflect the shift in the Clippers, Lakers and Pistons lineups with the next update."

2k9 will suck
• Kyle
Sounds awesome, BUT still won't be better than 2k9.
• obviously pasta is ignoring ya'll cause he CAN'T talk about where he got them from if he could i'm pretty sure he would so STOP asking it's been what 2 3 days & he hasn't answered yet let that ISH GO
• 1st of it's NOT pasta's fault it's EA's

2nd this is TRULY a GROUND BREAKING FEATURE just NOT with LIVE but if this & TEAM PLAY was in NBA 2K that SH@T be CRAZY ! ! !
• patrick
when will you post more information about this feature
• Eric
The roster thing is an issue with everyone. It isn't just from people that tried to use Pasta's file and make a new one. People that made new ones from scratch had the same issue. People that made rosters on the PS3 had the same issue. The issue is with creating the rosters themselves.

It is pretty obvious where Pasta got his rosters from since it has special characters in it that you can't enter from within the game, but so be it. It was a nice thing that he tried to do for the community. It is a shame that he had to take it down, but that is EA's fault not Pasta's. If EA wasn't doing a shitty job with their games, this wouldn't be an problem at all.

EA really should spend more than 5 minutes testing their games before they release them. It is a shame when the people that buy your game can find a HUGE bug within a day of getting the game, yet it goes undetected at EA for months on end.

Next year, maybe EA will have someone input rosters by hand to test that part of the game. Might be a good idea to test a feature that people will actually use in your game to mkae sure it works before you release the game.

I hope everyone that bought NCAA already takes it back to the store, since it is defective or sends it back to EA based on a warranty claim. That would show EA that we aren't going to take this crap anymore.

Look for more of the same when Madden drops.....
• Tully
Get off his back. Where he got the roster from is irrelevant. If you don't like the roster, don't use it. Its simple. What difference does it make if you knew who gave it to him?
• Jason tuck
This will be a great feature if EA fixes there gameplay and dunk animations.

this feature will blow 2k9 out of the water
• bux
I am still wondering why you pump this game up LOL... I will even give you the benefit of the doubt on your "virus" fiasco with NCAA 09 but this bro... this NBA live mess has got to stop, this game has not been good for like 5 years and running and this is the "Ground Breaking feature". Stick to Football, this and that Facebreaker news has got to stop... other sport games are out.

But what can I expect from a dude who said Blox was more anticipated than GTA4. You are being bashed on the reg now, keep it real with your true feelings on these sports games (not just EA). Dont be the EA puppet

I wonder what 2K has up their sleeve to combat this feature. I'm really looking forward to what 2K has to offer this year. If they just improved the overall graphics then I would be satisfied. That's how far ahead they are in gameplay.
• huddy187
good job EA i guess im getting live this year i was bored with 2k anyway

Pasta does this mean constantly updated ratings?
Fairdale is making himself look bad cause he once stated he tried to do his rosters himself and it crashed , when Adam the ncaa producer already has confirmed that if you edit your own rosters the crash will not happen. The crash is only happening with Pasta's original file.

So I take it as Fairdale was gonna base his rosters of of Pasta's original file but when teams started dissappearing and stuff he learned that he couldnt use Pasta's file.

I dont see why anyone would have anything negative to say about Pasta. He tried to help us and unfortunetly the plan got derailed in the sloppyness in the EA coding. Again not being Pasta's Fault.
You're right. It's not Pasta fault. Could you ever imagined that the "sloppy" coding wasnt tested yet before Pasta released it?But yet it's EA fault for "sloppy" coding even though they made not only this game, but hundered others sports games throughout the years with their "sloppy" coding.

Dang I wish I could code that "sloppy" as EA does I would be a multi-millionaire.
• Anthony
What part of "theres a lot more to it than that" do you people not understand?
• Josh
It's EA's own fault for the overwhelming disappointment in this feature. When they chose to adverise this feature so prematurely & deem it as a "groundbreaking feature", then they had to have expected people to be disappointed. They got everyone's hopes up so high that you can only be let down by the announcement. Although this may be a significant feature, I think people are more frustrated with EA as a whole rather than the feature itself. EA still has a lot of making up to do to us loyal fans that stil give them a chance after all the disappointing efforts of the past few years. We know what EA use to be & that's why we hold on to the hope that maybe this year they'll get it right. We'll have to wait and see how this turns out.

I will say this to all you pastapadre basher's. The guy was trying to help us all by getting the earliest rosters, where he got them might cause a problem with the NCAA and will kill the future possibilities of editing players. So let me sum this up for you's, he tried to help us out but there ended up being a bug in the code. Its not his fault 1 and 2 if theres a problem delete them simply enough.

Why must you's continue to harass him? There is nothing that him telling you's will be able to fix the problem so get over it already.
• gunner
It looks like Pasta has taken down his rosters from his gamertag and EA World. Hopefully he is working on removing the incorrect code and republish his rosters for tonight big rush (midnight game release night).

Thanks Pasta for finding and hopefully correcting the problem!!
• sam1234
I agree with gunner also. Pasta we need help to fix our stuff. Fairdale is making you look bad..
• QB Eagles
agree with gunner - i mean come on pasta.
Credibility is a big thing, I think at least.
To act like it never happened isn't the coolest thing...
Especially when Fairdale is finger pointing.
Dude don't be ignorant, Pasta doesn't owe you anything. He didn't make the game, he just used a feature. It's happening to EVERYBODY, not just him. It's not his responsibility to explain anything.
OK you load his rosters and make a edit change and then have teams disappear from your game and come back and tell me that he doesnt owe me an explaination as to how to get these disappearing teams back after he told us to download his roster. IT's happening to EVERYBODY because EVERYBODY downloaded his roster.

Do some research before you try to defend someone

Pasta, what happened with the NCAA roster file? We are your loyal fan base who frequent your site, but yet you are ignoring us after telling us to download the NCAA Rosters from your gamertag.

How can we trust you, if you know that this NCAA roster file is causing our 360's to freeze (confirmed by Fairdale and NCAAStragies to be your file which is causing the error) but you are not responding to anyone about this subject.

Come on man, just tell us how to fix our NCAA game? Dont go into hiding, it doesnt make you look very credible.
• Kmart2180
I thought it was going to be bigger then what it is. Its not making me say wow or anything but I really dont know much about it so I will hold off until then. But from what it sounds like is that players will play more like themselves. (Wait isnt that what player tendencies are for? lol)

This will not even matter much if the rebound/pass issue's remain the same. The gameplay still needs a big upgrade from what Ive read so far but we will see.
• nhiverson
might be a cool feature but if live plays like it did last few years count me out havent been a fan of live since 2000.
