Though E3 came and went with little news on NBA 2K9’s features, one day after the event ends comes a full feature list for the game that will probably exceed most people’s expectations. It appears to have matched NBA Live 09 with it’s own versions of Online Team Play, uploadable replays, and Player DNA.

GAMEPLAY FEATURES

  • Shot Stick Advanced: The revolutionary Shot Stick control system takes it one step further, allowing you to change your shots in mid-air.
  • Adaptive AI: Adaptive AI will read, react, and adjust in real time to your strategies. Your teammates will initiate cuts, picks, and post-ups based on how you handle the ball, while your opponent modifies strategy to fit the pace of the game.
  • The Association 2.0: The BEST just got even better. With NBA.com, you’ll have access to all the latest rumors, trades, scores news stories and more, plus new features like Player Personalities, Ambitions, and Player Roles, a plethora of customizable options, and NEW mini-game drills make this is the deepest and most robust Franchise mode on the market.

PRESENTATION FEATURES

  • 2K-HD: Drastically improved facial and skin textures, better uniforms, improved eye movement and more realistic crowd reactions bring the game alive like never before.
  • All-New Broadcast Team: Analyst Clark Kellogg and sideline reporter Cheryl Miller join color commentator Kevin Harlan to create one of the most knowledgeable broadcast teams in the game.
  • Better Replays & Cut Scenes: End each quarter with enhanced, multiple angle replay highlights, and be rewarded like never before with all-new, true-to-life celebration sequences after you capture the NBA championship.

ONLINE FEATURES

  • NBA 2K Online Features: 2K Sports’ industry leading online service gets all-new features like 5-on-5 Multiplayer mode with Total Team Control and a new ranking system–from Bench Warmer to Rookie to Pro to Superstar–that shows you how to match up against your opponents.
  • 2K Share: Create, upload, and share rosters, sliders, and even players created with the all-new Player DNA feature. This also includes the newly revamped Reelmaker, where you can now direct your own digital video highlight reels and post them on 2KSports.com or your personal web page for all the world to watch and admire.

Well said Pasta but I think people are really more frustrated in the fact that EA has pretty much monopolized the sports video game industry. You can’t really blaim EA for that because at the end of the day that’s smart business on their part. I think that the reason you hear so much bickering going on when it comes to Live vs 2K is because NBA 2K is really the only quality sports game that 2K as a company has left. People feel the need to defend 2K as much as possible in fear that EA may buy them out also. I know it sounds crazy but it’s true. But you’re absolutely right, at the end of the day it’s all about having 2 enjoyable basketball games.

then how come evrery year ea dissapoints last year was ok at best and 2k has always been good even making the transition over to the 360 2k handles there game twenty times better and if live is better why is 2k the number one selling basketball game ever since the 360 was invented just goes to show you ea cant get it done when you really need them the only impressive thing about ea is that they get all their games out on the same time every year

Awesome Pasta. I am very happy to see you recognizing non ea titles on your website. NBA 2k9 is definitely shaping up to be a beast this year. Although Live looks to have improved, they scarred too many people with live 06 07 and 08 to be considered over 2k

P.s. 24/7 mode was wack, please stop asking them to put that back into the game. Go by nba ballers and call it a day. Black top mode is plenty as it is.

Advanced Shot Stick: If the instruction booklet was as good a last years, we won’t know how to use it.

Adaptive AI: Nice buzz word, which is code for making the AI harder which is what most games do each year anyway.

Association 2.0: Well lets just say they copied this from EA and leave it at that.

2K share: Nice try but EA came up with this first.

2k in HD: WTF were we playing it in before.

New broadcast team: Well that might be good. We have to wait and see. I think Kevin Harlan is getting a bit old although he is good. They should have made a full changeout in the broadcast booth.

Overall 2k will probably be marginally better than last years just as 2k8 was marginally better than 2k7.

EA on the other hand is making dramatic changes throughout there entire sports line. It has already prooven fruitful in Madden and NCAA Football. It remains to be seen how it will be in Live and NHL, but the early signs look promising.

Can’t we all just get along? With that said, I’ll be buying both games this year. I’ve always had a problem with 2K’s graphics and didn’t like Live’s gameplay. But it seems that this year, they’ve both improved in those departments. Good year for sports gamers.

I agree. 24/7 is a complete waste of space & memory. They could use that to add other things besides 24/7 mode. Blacktop mode is really fun. I wonder if they’ll build on the slamdunk contest this year? I thought last years was way better & more realistic than Live’s.

Just to clarify, EA had the feature first in March Madness 07. The next year it was in both March Madness and also College Hoops (which expanded on it to use stadium chants, sliders, ect instead of just rosters).

It doesn’t really matter though, it was a good idea that both companies can offer consumers the benefits of.

I’m not going to get Live because 06, 07, and 08 were crap, but NBA Live 09 does look like it could be better. But so did Madden 08 over Madden 07. We can just wait and see.

I haven’t bought an NBA game since NBA 2K6, so it will be interesting to see how much better these games have improved. I’ve only played a little bit of the games.

I’m care more about gameplay and thats why I find 2k more enjoyable.

Obviously, the only thing that 2k has on Live in terms of features and not gameplay, is the shot stick. Gameplay wise, 2ks held the crown for the past 3 years. But at the same time Live is getting better and better every year, so hopeflly it can become a powerhouse again.

This feature list made me sad, I can not believe, that is all so many developers can do in 365 days… I hoped, that they shall add some really outstanding feature to the game, like a realistic (and not pre-rendered) phisic engine (euphoria).

24/7 storyline was fun, good practice, they should bring that back!

In 2008 2k’s game was much better than live, but I think in 2009 the live serie shall decrease this gap.

Not 2k9 nor NBA Live 09 is worth for 60$.

NBA LIVE AND NBA 2K SHOULD MAKE THEY ENGINES FREE TO MODIFY FOR THE COMMUNITY, THE FANS WOULD ACHIEVE THESE CHANGES IN 1 MONTH.

I just hope, 2k wont fell into the same trap, EA did a few years ago, as 2k has got the better selling serie (on xbox360 nba 2k8 800k vs nba Live 08 550k), and they do not think, that they have to develop better and better games. Do not get comfortable, 2k!

I hope, they do not think, that the fans are milking cows, and they buy the actual nba game, even if that was upgraded slightly.

This so far is not enough for the fans, they have to step up with something better as the releasing time is coming closer.

I like the features…. 2k has been the better game since the next gen jump.Im all about game play and online play.Live has been making strides but i think they need to take one year out and focus real hard on realism on the court. fix the player animations like passes, lay ups,and body contact with other players on the court..Last but not least fix on ball defense. If these things are fix i would enjoy all the effort they put into the features.

I used to say back and the day there would never be a b-ball game better then live i wonder when i can start saying that again. If we had Live features and commentary and 2k gameplay we would have the perfect basketball game.

Root – you cant import MM into Live this year at all. Looks like its only 2k for me this year. Ill rent Live, but since Lives gameplay is suspect, and all 2k needed to do was up the graphic engine(already had gameplay on lock) this is all I’ll need.

Pasta or anybody out there, can someone please explain to me what 2k share is exactly. Will this basically mean that we would have to trust the people we download rosters from, or will 2k have their own roster that we can update more than just three times. Personally I update all my rosters on all my bball games every year, So I would rather do it myself than download rosters from someone else who might not do everything correctly. If 2k had daily roster updates that they made for us I would trust them way more than I would someone online. Also, this probably means the whole jamario moon thing will happen again, with any d-league or free agent players not being in the game if they get signed mid season. I wish 2k9 (by far the better game) had daily updates like live 09.
