Madden 09 Demo Videos

With the Madden 09 demo now out in DVD form, and coming next Friday to XBL and PSN, I wanted to drop some quick impressions and videos. I’ll have more over the weekend as well.

From the amount of time I’ve spent with the demo so far it is clearly from an older build than what was played at the Community Event. Apparently it is from an early April build and the one coming next week will be more recent. So not only are there visual differences (no camera flashes for example) but it doesn’t play as sharp as it did in late May. The Madden IQ doesn’t seem to be nearly as forgiving either, as I struggled just to pull in Pro ratings with the demo while at the event I had All-Pro on every one except pass defense. Still it does a decent enough job presenting the overall feel of the game outside of the absent commentary which takes a big part of the atmosphere away.

As detailed previously, this demo gives the opportunity to try out the virtual trainer and then take on the Giants in a “Madden Moment”, the late game go-ahead drive. Continue on to view a video of a virtual trainer play through and nearly ten minutes of gameplay.

madden knows the hardcore fans will buy the game no matter what, thats why 09 is gearing towards 10 year olds. if u hardcore fans buy this year's game, u r D*U*M*B.
  • antonio
Sorry I miss understood you about the coverage thing. Actually you cover both. You pass rush and do Coverage.
  • antonio
That was highly disappointing.

Those tests for skill level were comical. How well you pass rush vs a double team while the QB throws a slant determines your ability to defend the pass?

Throwing deep 8 times in a row determines passing skill? Wow, the biggest failure of the Madden series has always been the pencil-neck dev team not "getting" football.

The game still has terrible physics(momentum), blocking is still sticky and random, and poor representation of height over distance. Which means another year of LB's jumping 12 feet to intercept passes they can't even see.

The next gen Madden series has been awful, a much bigger change is needed, unfortunately they associate sales with quality. And ya, I'll buy this game, and Madden 10 with look a lot like 09.

    *shaking my head*
Yeah it kind of does. When you cover a reciever its called defending the pass. Getting TDs and trying to score does show how well you pass. Your not that smart when it comes to football.

I dont know why people are bashing it. None of the people who bashed it so far gave a reason.

lol Brandon Jacobs with the winning TD on a 60 yard run.

    GO GIANTS!

i got disconnected 7 out of 10 games, my dynasty no longer works, scores are like in the high 60s ...might as well just have the offense on the field, why even waste ur time putting the defense on there. these are my issues with ncaa 09. madden will be the same. a half ass product filled with bugs.

The Pats did win 3 superbowls with troy brown as the #1 WR. but nobody like them so moving on. I'm liking the look, some of the catching animations look more realistic than last year, and i like how fluid the running animations are too. Can't wait to get my hands on the defense though
  • pat
lol leave me and the Pats alone we'll win back to back super bowls, prolly even pull a 3-peat
ok keep dreaming ur team is only getting worse so u might win one superbowl in the next 15 years

and about the demo, since they know the hardcore gamers will buy any crap they put out, they are trying to cater to more casual gamers. it's just a ploy to make more money. why else would they put madden iQ on the demo. u can only play on offense and not defense. wut EA is saying is" screw the hardcore gamers, they will buy the game any ways. lets try to suck money out of the casual gamers that don't buy madden, lets put in rewind instead of spend our time on gameplay."
  • noooooooooo
i dont know why ppl are anticipating this game. it's the same damn game, if u played 03,04,05,06,07,08, than u have played 09. they just tweak it every year. last year, defense was too good, this year defense will suck. and the adaptive a.i. thing is bs. it's just automatic slider adjusting. the game doesn't get better, they just dumb down the offense when ur up by alot and dumb down the defense when ur behind. passes will magically float into the defenders hand even if ur guy is wide open when ur up alot. o line wont block n e 1. how is that adaptive. u can still run the same play every down and the defense will not stop u. ur receiver will just drop the ball..adaptive a.i. means dumb down a.i.
I thought that the camera flashes were toned down on the latest builds. Pasta, do you know if this is true? Also, do you know if the flashes happen for the road teams making good plays b/c that would be stupid! Should only happen for kick-offs, home team "big plays", end of games, and playoffs. I wouldn't mind seeing constant camera flashes for the Super Bowl tho. It would be more appropriate.
They were supposedly turned down some, but I don't think enough that people are going to be happy with it. The producers started trying to justify the flashes which tells me it won't be to our satisfaction.
  • RW
Wow...there's an idiot on here who says the game demo doesn't look good, but then turns around and asks which version of the game should he buy. How stupid can you be? If you like the game, fine, buy it. But if you're on forums complaining about the game, why in the hell do you still support it? Only in America are people this sheepish. THIS is why EA wont' change up their games...there's no reason to, they know that alot of people are DUMB enough to buy the games anyway, no matter how much you complain.

Way to go moron, keep buying a game that you aren't satisfied with,...so EA can keep recycling the same game over and over again. There are alot of people just like you.
Oh and Pasta i am stuck i dont know if i should get the 100 dollar madden or just normal edition? What are the main differences? Also what would Madden do if Favre goes to another team?
Basically if you are interested in Head Coach you'd want the anniversary edition. If not I don't see much value in it.

I bet they would release a new edition with a new cover, or at least downloadable new covers. They'd take advantage of it in some way.

about favre if he comes back you can find him in the list of nfl greats and can be released and signed to another team and btw hes back with the packers

    LOL @ Maurice N.

    THAT is hilarious.

Man I was really hoping that this was from the most recent built. When I watched the videos the other day on YouTube I got excited because I didn't see any of those STUPID CAMERA FLASHES. I said to myself "Wow, EA must have realized how overly excessive those flashes are & they must have removed them. Those camera flashes are the only thing I don't like about the game (although I would mind them in the Superbowl & if EA was smart they would've saved them for the Superbowl to make it feel significant). But know, after Pasta clarified that this was from an April build I'm disappointed. I don't mind a few camera flashes during the game but 100 hundred flashes every 5 seconds? Really EA?
This build is from April I believe, right before they added the flashes. I like the flashes, but there should be an option to turn them off for thos who don't.
Amen brotha! At least give us the option to turn them off but I doubt they will. Like I said I wouldn't mind a few camera flashes but why are there stll so many? That's not realistic.

  • If the demo was good we wouldnt be "grumpy" but the way this is looking is not good
  • IIAMLEGEND
thank god when eli runs out the pocket it throws of his accuracy. gamers really need to stop running around with the QB. i'm glad i wont have to send a corner every play just to keep them contained
  • Well the flashes should reflect the situation. Night games at kickoff, maybe at the end of games. Playoff games they could be more heavily seen. But mid-day regular season games with constant camera flashes is ridiculous.

The best move would be to use Gametrailers.com for videos. The quality is the best of the lot, and you can DOWNLOAD them without a registration. Vimeo, Youtube... they all suck for video games.

    Gametrailers.
This demo was disappointing. I looked forward to madden after reading the community day info. I know this was a demo and not the full game but the little taste I did get of the game has me looking forward to ncaa patches then the release of this game. The game was slow and felt VERY much like 08' I like the new camera but it makes passing deep a little weird and harder (maybe that's good for some). You get a since of depth when passing 15 yards or more with the new camera. It almost felt like the ball curves, its hard to explain. This game may not be the issue festival that NCAA 2009 is but judging from that "limited" demo it won't be as fun either. I really hope that the final version has been better tuned because that game felt heavy and sadly similar to Madden 08.NCAA 09 (despite its issues) IMO somewhat deviated from the heaviness feel of the next gen football games, the Madden demo does not do this at all. I see why the demo is limited, if I played more I might like it less.
I agree about the camera angle & the deep passes. I said this a couple months ago that it seems like the score overlay being positioned in the center of the action will block the view of some long passes. On some post plays you can't even tell where the ball is going to land until the last second so it makes positioning for the ball with your reciever a little difficult.

Yup exactly. I may look into hosting the videos myself, but that brings with it cost concerns.

I thought the IQ training thing was a lot of fun and addicting cause when you go and finish and get your final IQ rating you feel like you can do a lot better and you go back and play it again. But as far as the Madden moment its an April build and is pretty boring but you appreciate the grapchics and new running mechanics.

YOUR FORUM CONSISTS OF GRUMPS LATELY! Any news on anything is quickly turned into negative this and that. Just expect it to remain this way Pasta as your site has become infested w/brats who roam all related internet forums. I CAN'T WAIT FOR MADDEN-

...but getting back to my point, GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really didn't expect the reaction this is getting. I was very impressed with the game in late May. Hopefully the demo next week is more representative of that then and everyone gets a chance to see that first hand.

so dissapointed in the NFL for giving the exclusive rights to EA... ohh well another year without a football game :-/
