Demo Day Random Madden 09 Topics

  • Fred at Sportsgamer has a copy of Madden 09 and is responding to questions and posting info on and videos from the game. Head here to find links to the specific thread topics.
  • The EA Sports World page for Madden is now up and videos are being posted from various people who have the game. In general they look to be slightly better quality than the NCAA videos.
  • A patch is scheduled to go live for Madden on or around release day and should provide some gameplay improvements. There will almost certainly be at least one more patch to the game as this one could almost be considered a bonus.
  • A recent press release stated that the game includes the Cowboys new stadium. However I have confirmed that it does not. The stadium should appear next season to coincide with its opening.
  • Phil Frazier has posted pictures of the Collector’s Edition packaging. You can check them out in the forum.
  • Feel free to continue leaving your impressions of the demo here or in the forum. I’ve added a video from the new demo as the featured video and will have more late this evening.

Pasta I played the demo and the first thing I wanted to lab on was strafe catching, there doesn’t seem to be a strafe button available. I tried every button to get my reciever to square up and it’s not working. Please let me know this an error that will be fixed with the release build.

Hey Pasta, It doesn’t feel like there is precision passing. All of the passes feel the same. It is hard to rocket passes in tight areas. the angle also makes passes feel the same. and what about a strafe button.

What’s everyone’s take on there not being CPU sliders in the game? Deal breaker? I guess I have to play the game first, but why alienate a large group of gamers?

they need to fix user catches I threw a bomb 4. Plays in a row to see if Plax will jump for it and all he did was stick his arms out and I’m right on the circle. I love the strafe catch on NCAA gives u that real jump ball feeling

Yeah I agree that NCAA’s strafe catch is nice and realistic, and the first thing I noticed was there is no strafe button in Madden. He won’t even square up at all. I tried every button (100 times or more), I maybe caught 20-30 users. This has to be looked at becausethis is key for offense and defense, I strafe left /right with my linebacker for over the middle passes or even user int’s on the deep ball. I really hope there is a strafe button in Madden’s realease build.

Can you please verify this for us Pasta.

    Thanks.

Looking at the two games, Madden 09 Demo and NCAA Football 09, the player models and overall graphics seem years in advanced for NCAA Football 09 over Madden. Is this just the demo that looks cartoon-like or will the game really look like this. I was hoping that Madden would have the same look as the college game or better. The same people design the to games. Why could they not port over the same look or improve on it. NCAA Football 09 looks amazing. Once they fix the roster problem, that game is going to be perfect. Any chance of a patch to improve the look of the game?

Madden NFL 09 Brett Favre Sim
“With all the speculation currently surrounding Madden NFL 09 cover athlete Brett Favre and his pending return from retirement, EA SPORTS used Madden NFL 09 to predict how the future Hall of Famer would perform on a select group of NFL teams reported to be in contention for his services. Comparing the full-season simulated results between teams with and without Favre, the Minnesota Vikings stand to gain the most with Favre under center, while the New York Jets also went from missing the play-offs with their current roster, to making the post-season with Favre as their QB.

Brett Favre is currently a playable character in Madden NFL 09, on the “NFL Greats” roster. In Franchise Mode, players can transfer Favre to the free agent roster pool, and pick him up on any of the 32 NFL teams for the 2008 NFL season.

Multiple news reports have named four NFL teams that Brett Favre may play for this coming season – the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings”

Strafe catching was removed (a good thing IMO) because it was one of the biggest exploits with the game. They actually left strafe catching in for Rookie and Pro difficulty though. The patch for NCAA should reduce the effectiveness of it also, though I’m not sure if it removes it completely.

Playing the demo last night left me with a few impressions. 1st, I did notice that there were too many dropped passes. 2nd, I think that they should’ve made the score overlay a lot smaller because it kinda takes up too much space on the field. 3rd, it seems like every running back could do the same jukes and spins no matter what their rating was. I hope in Madden 2010 EA really works on improving signature playing styles. Last, the sidelines still need improvement. Although they are slghtly improved this year, the players on the sideline need to look like the players on the field. Oh yea & I appreciate EA adding more coaches on the sideline but if they’re going to do it at least do it right. There needs to be at least 10 coaches on the sidelines not just 3. Other than that the game looked good.

I thought that the graphics for Madden 09 would look better than what they did in the demo. Don’t get me wrong, the graphics this year are much improved from last year but they’re not the biggest leap ever like EA was advirtising.

If they’re going to take strafe catching away then they need to take strafing away for defense to make it fair. I personally don’t think they should’ve taken strafe catching away because it gives you more control of the receiver. If people can’t stop it then that’s their problem. Why should you be punished just because you’re good at using it?

if you watch an instant replay after completing a pass the ball hardly spins. same for NCAA on PS3. But the ball spins like it should on both games for 360.

Madden looks great but a couple of things I am concerned about. First, I noticed I that I could not square up my qb in the direction of any certain receiver. Of course this would be used to look off the defense and help in completing passes as well. Secondly, I did not see formation audibles. This option is certainly part of football and needs to be implemented into the game via some patch I hope. I suppose maybe these options merely left off demo?
