So what is "strafe catching"? Is it something that was in Madden 07? Why is it such a benefit?

If they're going to take strafe catching away then they need to take strafing away for defense to make it fair. I personally don't think they should've taken strafe catching away because it gives you more control of the receiver. If people can't stop it then that's their problem. Why should you be punished just because you're good at using it?
if you watch footbal defensive players actualy strafe. offensive players strafe only on a couple of plays, usualy on comback routes or on hailmary jumpball situations, both of which do not happen very often. so people get ready for a more realistic brand of football, sorry cheesers.

people quit complaining about no spectacular catch & no strafe catch, how many times in a game do you see a reciever strafe catch, and how many spectacular catches happen in a game, a couple of times in a game maybe not every single catch on every drive. i think its great that madden is trying to make this a more realistic game then in years past.

My impressions of the demo:

The visuals looked damn good (especially the detail in the uniforms during the cut scenes.

I hope that the Super Bowl is similar to the way the field is set up in the demo. I thought it was cool to have each team's logo in the end zones and on the side lines.

Jeremy Shockey dropped a $hit load of passes...Was this done purposely by some of the developers who may be Giants fans???

The animations look sweet especially prior to the snap. The Pat's defense moved all over the place.

Did anyone notice that the Pat's defense also utilized a formation in which the down lineman were in a two-point stance similar to a linebacker....That was awesome....

The different views of the offense approaching the line of scrimmage after breaking the huddle is a nice touch...

Madden IQ in regards to defense was ridiculously hard.
Strafe catching was removed (a good thing IMO) because it was one of the biggest exploits with the game. They actually left strafe catching in for Rookie and Pro difficulty though. The patch for NCAA should reduce the effectiveness of it also, though I'm not sure if it removes it completely.
Pasta this was a huge and I mean HUGE downfall as far as realism, strafing is something that players do in real life. Now that they took it out people are doing half a circle turns to strafe catch and it looks stupid. When you can just turn around instantly by hitting the LT. I've read several forums and talked to people who have the game early and the defense still has strafe ability but the offense doesn't. There seems to be a 1% chance of a spc catch animation and by holding Y to catch the deep ball there is absolutely no reaction from the WR to catching the ball. Which leaves players to either throw a bullet deep for the "non- jump turn around catch" animation, or hold back while throwing the ball then doing the fastest half a circle turn to strafe catch. People are already putting videos on YouTube with the new style strafe catch and it looks stupid, kinda takes away from the realism mechanics. They should have left it in the game but made it less effective.

The sidelines still suck in Madden. Why is it so hard to make the players on the sideline look like the players on the field? It totally takes away from the realism. I understand that they only have so much memory space when developing a game, but improving the sidelines should be EA's 1st priority (Along with refs & chaingangs). I'm really getting sick of the players on the sideline looking like they belong in a Nintendo 64 game. Also they need to add collision detection for the players on the sideline. I'm tired of seeing players walk through players on the sidelines like they don't exsist. This can't be that hard to fix. When is EA going to realize that the little things do matter?

It's not realistic though if they take it off cuz when u play real life football and u do a come back route or get ready for a jump ball in the endzone you turn around get in postion to catch the ball. Also if u ever seen any film or played linebacker in real life they teach u to starfe to move side to side with keeping ur eye on the ball.My biggest problem with next gen madden is running to the ball and pressing the catch button and the Wr don't jump. That happen over and over again in the Madden demo when doing user catches.Thank u EA unstead of taking it off maybe give the defense a better chance of defending I thought players had a jump attribute for a reason
