First NBA Live 09 Gameplay Video

The first footage of actual gameplay from NBA Live 09 has made its way out, and it appears to have come from a more recent build than the one that was played at the community event. This is evidenced by the addition of camera flashes in the crowd (seriously) and a properly functioning basketball meter above the head of the player setting a pick.
The video shows off some impressive animations as well as general fluidity of the game, however from this there is no way to determine if any of the issues that were laid out at the event have since been addressed.

John. 2K doesn’t really post much information until the release and from what I’ve seen doesn’t have much community events. However, when 2K does release information Pasta does post it. I don’t necessarily believe that Pasta is live biased, he has never endorsed any game, nor has he stated his preference. He’s been as harsh as many of the critics on these boards.

looks like everything there is to know about 2k9 has been posted here on the site. given that 2k doesnt release much about their games or involve the community what else is there?

if u love 2k and dont like live dont comment on how bad live is when u know other people are just gonna bash u for being an idiot. why cant we just love the game of basketball and appreciate both games?(well an exception is live 07..that was horrific) but i mean live is doing a ok job correcting their flaws and i applaud them for that but we cant say 2k isnt yet…because we havent seen any video. and really to me my main flaw in 2k was the missed layups and floor spacing also lack of features. my main flaws with live were too easy to score skinny player models….odd signature jumpshots…..bad rebounding……ugly dunks……to easy to dunk…..floating in slow motion passes…..to hard to intercept passes…etc…so i know live is correcting about one every game lol

LOL@comparing 2K and Live to Kobe and Jordan. More like Tryonne Lue and Smush Parker, and yes Sdot, you’re the biggest fan boy on here. You’ve been called out, put on blast enough times by people on here and you take it so personal and start talking about being a “real balla” and what not, which made me chuckle. Trust me, I’ve played more real ball than you ever will. Been coached by NBA level coaching, trust me when I say I KNOW the game of basketball. You act like the NBA 2K series is the perfect game. Was it the best bball game? Yes. But that’s not saying much. All basketball games have been bad. Both Live and 2K were HEAVILY flawed, full of exploits, lack of features, lack of ingenuity, graphics, predictable A.I., sliding, lack of defensive controls/animations, recycled commentary (even though Live flows better)…we could go on for days…. Both games need a lot of work. NBA Live seems to address a lot of their issues, and I wish NBA 2K8 would do the same (not to say they aren’t). 2K8 has been the better game, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, but it’s success is heavily dependent on the failures of NBA Live. Both are bad games, flat out and for you 2K fanboys to say “it’s the greatest ball game out there” you’re absolutely right! I couldn’t agree with you more. But just because it’s the best basketball game out there, doesn’t necessarily make it a great game.

What the hell are You talking about? It does not make any sense to compare actual sport-games to something ideal, perfect product! As the quality of the games are changing, your needs are gonna follow them, people are never going to be satisfied.
It is reasonable to compare nba live to nba 2k, coz these are the 2 leading basketball frenchises. Certainly none of them are perfect, but at this moment, in 2008, You can not get any better. Just play 2k8, if You want the best nba game on the market.

Did I say that NBA 2K8 wasn’t the best basketball game out there? I don’t think I did. In fact, many times I’ve said that 2K8 is the better basketball game. However, the games are bad. I really don’t understand your argument Reignman. If anything you further my point. Yes the games can be much better, but when your competition is coming up with horrible games year after year, they aren’t going to be concerned with making a better product. There are always going to be people who like NBA Live over NBA 2K and vice versa. Granted, if you compare both games, last year, each had its fair share of flaws as well as things that Live and NBA 2K did well. I tend to not favor one over the other because of the tendency that, if I say that NBA Live is better than NBA 2K, then I’m making the mistake of not recognizing the inherent flaws, bugs, and glitches in the game.
Here are a few things I know. NBA Live in previous years has not received as much “hype” and “media acclaim” than NBA 2K because for the simple fact that NBA Live tended to cater to a more arcade style of gameplay whereas NBA 2K appealed to more hardcore NBA gamers who wanted “realism.” In short, the argument has been that NBA Live has had all the “style” while NBA 2K boasted of “substance.”
However, I think that it all comes down to how each gamer chooses to play these games. For those who play “realistically”, it is likely that the game will reflect that regardless if it’s NBA Live or NBA 2K. Conversely, if a gamer chooses to play a more open style with more fast breaks, “run ‘n gun,” etc. the game will reflect that.
I caution those who are quick to bash NBA Live or NBA 2K with this: You want to know how NBA Live ‘09 or NBA 2K9 is? Play the demo, rent the game, or buy it. That way, you will have at least have had the time to know what it’s really about because you’ve actually played both.
In that way, if you decide that one of the games is not for you, then at least you’ll have something to go on than just bashing the game based on what you think is the case without actually having spent time playing it.
As the old saying goes, “Don’t knock it, until you’ve tried it.” That way, your opinion of the game may not change, but at least you can make a comment that you can back up with some personal experience instead of opting to bash a game you think is not good just because the competition made it.
