First NBA Live 09 Gameplay Video

The first footage of actual gameplay from NBA Live 09 has made its way out, and it appears to have come from a more recent build than the one that was played at the community event. This is evidenced by the addition of camera flashes in the crowd (seriously) and a properly functioning basketball meter above the head of the player setting a pick.
The video shows off some impressive animations as well as general fluidity of the game, however from this there is no way to determine if any of the issues that were laid out at the event have since been addressed.

wit the exception of the last lay up by iggy lay ups still look terrible when are they gonna address that b/c not every drive ends wit a DUNK
side note pasta is there any reason why you seem too wait until live vids are posted in websites other than IGn B4 you post them ?? cuz this is the 2nd time I thought it was gonna be something NEW only too realize I seen it already

I’m a big fan of the game, as well as 2K. After watching that video, I am impressed, but……………This build looks way to easy to dribble to the hoop and get a basket, EVERYTIME. The player speed looks to fast…….. At about the 14 second mark, it shows Parker (I think) driving to the hole, get past two defenders and then put up a rainbow tear drop that looked all messed up. First off, to put up that shot in that situation makes no sense. You risk getting blocked by either defender behind you. The more sensible shot would have been an easy lay up, away from the defenders. and I’d like to think Parker is smart enough to do that. Aside from that, the animations look SPECTACULAR. The fluidity looks solid and the cameras flashing are a nice addition. This game is going to be a good one, especially for those of us who enjoyed last years game. Looking forward to the release. pasta actually said in his impressions that it was too difficult to drive to the basket. so either this is lower difficulty, easier to do it to the cpu than another person, or theyve made it easier since

WTF have YOu seen the stills comparison of Live & 2K in the gallery 2K looks far better than Live with their TERRIBLE player 2 court proportions everbody in Live seems 2 have the KG / Prince body type BIG guys look skinny & skinny short guys (ie AI) look extra tiny

Every time I see even a second of gameplay it blows away my expectations. Everything so far is much more fluid and solid. If Madden had a true competitor maybe EA would do the same

Hey Pasta, I remember hearing something about a shot meter in the game. Are they still including that or has it been completely scrapped?

The shot meter is only displayed in the NBA Academy for practice purposes.

Looks improved but still not as fluid as 2K. Looks like there’s too much sliding on the court & the passing stills needs to be improved.

wasnt showing off the “Team DNA” stuff, looks like u give it to someone and go to the basket on every highlight. No offense being run just freestyle basketball. I have to admit it didnt look robotic and they had some sick animations too. Ill proly buy both this year 2k on release date and NBA Live sometime next March wen its low.

Positively its got some new animations, the game is more fluid, if I would not know 2k8, I was saying live 09 is a good game.
But
-players still looks like 12 years old thin scoolboys in a gym;
-you can not feel the players body, no body vs body matchups, the defenders can not make stops, you can trick them with a simple crossover;
-Bargnani made that “fade-away-big-hoop-jump-away-from-the-basket-with-a-strange-shot” . I hate it, its so unrealistic, 2k8s got a lot of that.
-The dunks are still like marionetts on a wire…
-I think, realistic cloth phisic itself makes the 2k graphics superior, this is a big disadventage for live.
-I know, it is a beta, but players (defensive) looks mindless, it is boring to see, all the players are getting back to D at the very same moment, same speed.

I cant lie EA has finally made the right steps towards making a great game. But it looked entirely 2 easy score on there. No strategy or ne thing. I also didnt like how some players still stood around like zombies. But 2k still gets my business cus i kno their a safe bet. Live is makin strides. Im impressed

I really like the vid of this. When I saw OJ Mayo on the court it got me all excited in my pants
Rudy Gay still (from what I could tell) looks like his NBA Live 08 virtual counterpart which in turn looks nothing like the real person but at least he is moving more fluid and not a complete piece a crap.

Looks good and fluid, I love the animations where the plays fall. The problem is it’s not showing us really anything. No misses keeps us from judging rebound improvements. For all the talk abut Defense finally being affective in a basketball game you don’t see it’s use here.
Basically the demo is to one sided. Just to much offense only. But still impressive from what I can see.

Seems a lot better than last year. I like how the players fall, seems like Wade is going to fall every time he gets the ball XD That’s good though because it would be realistic and one of the reasons I like D-wade is because he showboats especially when he is on the floor after an and1.

What is your take on the lack of defense in the gameplay video. Do you think that it is something artificial used to create a video or is this how the defense will actually play?

The footage came from several different matchups, given that it could be that they were just isolated plays that whoever created the video wanted to show off. If anything it was too difficult to drive past a defender in the build we played.

You’ve been called out, put on blast enough times by people on here and you take it so personal and start talking about being a “real balla” and what not, which made me chuckle. Trust me, I’ve played more real ball than you ever will. Been coached by NBA level coaching, trust me when I say I KNOW the game of basketball. You act like the NBA 2K series is the perfect game. Was it the best bball game? Yes. But that’s not saying much. All basketball games have been bad. Both Live and 2K were HEAVILY flawed, full of exploits, lack of features, lack of ingenuity, graphics, predictable A.I., sliding, lack of defensive controls/animations, recycled commentary (even though Live flows better)…we could go on for days…. Both games need a lot of work. NBA Live seems to address a lot of their issues, and I wish NBA 2K8 would do the same (not to say they aren’t). 2K8 has been the better game, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, but it’s success is heavily dependent on the failures of NBA Live. Both are bad games, flat out and for you 2K fanboys to say “it’s the greatest ball game out there” you’re absolutely right! I couldn’t agree with you more. But just because it’s the best basketball game out there, doesn’t necessarily make it a great game.
