NBA 2K9 E3 Presentation Video

The first footage of NBA 2K9 gameplay has made its way out thanks to a site having recorded the presentation that was made at the E3 press conference a few weeks back. You can check out the three minute first quarter here.

I like the frenzy of the crowd in the 2K9 video though the non-reaction to the alley-oop at the end would need to be fixed (early build). The net animations are noticeably better than Live. Both games now have a somewhat intrusive crowd though which I’m not sure about. In Live it is how a few of the courtside fans at the bottom of the screen stand most of the time and the camera flashes, and here with 2K9 it is the foam fingers waving back and forth constantly from a couple fans at the bottom of the screen. Presentation wise 2K9 feels to be more like a TV broadcast but the commentary in Live is superior.

This amount of gameplay just about matches up with how much there has been seen of NBA Live 09. How do you think the two compare just from those videos?

2k9 looks alot better then last season. The graphics have come along way. But it does look alot like it plays in 2k8.2 me thats not a bad thing. I love 2k8 the only thing i hated was that players RARELY got back on defense everytime they scored they had 2 touch hands or clap 2gether b4 they could run down the court. This year it seems like player celebrations are going more with the flow of the game rather then disrupting the defense. I dunno why people are so caught up in features. YES live always has nice features but when was the last time they had good gameplay? Dont worry i’ll wait?……………………… lol 2005 was the last time. N that was the last time i bought a LIVE game. I see strides in their games but they still play no defense and their players run around like zombies.
Enough with purchasing BOTH of these games as if money just grew on trees. Save yourself the money even as EA tries to seduce you with gimmicky features that don’t impact what you care about most. Hey EA, its the GAMEPLAY stupid! 2K dominates in this area and that is why you should hedge your money on 2K and rent Live, only to realize that you only wasted 5 bucks and not 60 purchasing the retail copy. Yes I am a 2K fanboy. Yes I am bitter about the NFL exclusivity contract that buried the NFL 2K Franchise. However, this in no way is clouding my judgement when it comes to assessing both Live and 2K basketball games purely based on merit. 2K8 was crack and Live 08 was, well, weed in terms of potency; Not even, it was meh aregano at best and thats just sad. WE DONT BELIEVE YOU EA, YOU NEED MORE PEOPLE!
There’s nothing wrong with preferring one over the other. I can understand why you feel like you’ve lost trust in EA and NBA Live because, quite frankly, the previous few years or so, their games have been subpar at best. You’re entitled to your opinion and, in my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with being a fanboy of either franchise. Granted, money don’t grow on trees (it took me a long time to save up that money), but if someone wants to buy both games, it doesn’t make it right or wrong, it’s just their choice. After all, this is America, right? Anyway, I think that you are correct when you say that in previous games of Live, that it seemed that the emphasis was more on “gimmicks” (Freestyle Controls, etc.) than on what many gamers considered important, which is gameplay and “realism.” Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. It is important to remember though, at the end of the day, it’s just a video game. Comparing NBA Live ’09 vs. NBA 2K9 is like choosing between apples and oranges. Some will like 2K9 while others will prefer Live ’09 and, in the end, it all boils down to which ever NBA game that individual is most comfortable with. If I rate a game, chances are, what I think makes a good game is going to differ from anyone else’s opinion. And that’s okay. Opinions are like brains, everyone has one. It doesn’t mean that my opinion is better than anyone else’s because it isn’t. It just is, pure and simple. You may not like or agree what I have to say, but I’m entitled to my opinion, just like everyone else.

2k gameplay is far far far from realistic.

Just watch a game of Cpu vs. Cpu, it doesn’t resemble basketball at all. The AI needs help.

and where are the cuts towards the basket?

and a good move on offense just makes the defender slide backwards? wtf?

I don’t like how the crowd never settles down and collision detection while dribbling needs improvement. Overall, I think that the majority of animations are still better than live’s.

both games arent perfect but i prefer 2k basketball games… and i used to prefer 2k football (but we all know what happened to that)… I used to be a live fan until it went next gen, but im not gonna lie its catching up, I give it a couple more years if 2k doesnt step there game up… but for right now I believe 2k has the better more realistic basketball game (and thats just my opinion, your welcome to have your own!)

what exactly the same are you crazy…… the player models look so much different the jerseys no longer look like paper and the graphics are muched improved i and live never makes notable changes this si the first year they have done that all ea does is improve graphics ..live 09 is the only one where they actually fixed gameplay
Exactly, EA has got to prove a lot to regain the players trust.

rdelizo35. I don’t know if I would call “Free Style a gimmick”. It was pretty innovative and added user control to dribbling, a very innovative move at the time which matured into quick strike dribbling. 2K had the shot stick, which I do prefer over the button. I wish that quick strike dribbling and the shot stick could be in one game…but alas, we’ll never see that.

ISOMOTION far superior to Free Style control being that there is probably 3X more dribble animations in 2K than in Live free style control makes is WEAK b/c every1 handles the same

The only way we’ll have quick strike ankle breaking dribble moves and the shot stick is if 2K and EA merged, which as of this point in time, is unlikely. Personally I wouldn’t think that something like Free Style moves was a gimmick, per se, but you do have many NBA 2K fans who will say that it was. Anyway, to each his or her own, I guess.
