For the first full game video from Madden 09 there would be nothing more fitting than featuring Brett Favre on his new team. For the opponent I chose a division rival in the Bills as these two teams look to be competing for a wild card spot in the playoffs this year.
This game includes my favorite play executed with Madden so far. On the first play of the 4th quarter I had to retreat from the pocket. At the last second I noticed a wide open Laveranues Coles way down field. I was able to get the pass off and get the ball to him just before the defenders closed in. It seemed to me to be a classic Brett Favre type of play.
Continue on to watch the entire game as broken down into five segments.

First.
Great gameplay, can’t wait to get my copy.
August 8, 2008 at 7:42 am
Did the roster update come out with Favre on the jets yet? Or did you manually place Favre on the Jets?
August 8, 2008 at 7:45 am
I hate my cpu at work. SOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!
August 8, 2008 at 7:48 am
I just moved Favre manually, the update reflecting the trade isn’t out yet.
Also wanted to note this is played on All-Pro.
August 8, 2008 at 7:48 am
Man everything looks good on this years title. Thanks Pasta.
August 8, 2008 at 7:59 am
Very Nice.
Speaking of that play in the fourth Pasta refers to:
Thumbs up to the camera angle that allows you to see the receivers.
Thumbs down to Chris Collinsworth (on that particular play) According to him it was a great touch pass and it takes so much work to get that kind of timing down between QB and Receiver. lol.

This is very cool Pasta.
What about a vid showing snow effect?
August 8, 2008 at 8:06 am
Yeah I’ll have some more videos through the weekend, I can do a snow game.
August 8, 2008 at 8:17 am
Pasta,
I know some one that is putting up their game sliders on their own sports blog and he was wondering how to put up screen shots from ign or 2ksports or easports to his web site without violating permissions.
August 8, 2008 at 8:22 am
What is favre’s rating?
August 8, 2008 at 8:28 am
so how do you like the game so far? What would u rate it out of 10
August 8, 2008 at 8:32 am
I cant see it. It just keeps trying to load.
August 8, 2008 at 8:33 am
hey pasta, can you find out what the secret achievement is?
August 8, 2008 at 8:36 am
Seeing the two picks in the red zone isnt pretty . i See it was a low scoring game. Did it feel like it played well? Looksl ike the CPU had tons of time in the pocket, did you adjust any sliders? ALso, does it seem like the only way to stop the offense is to pick it off in red zone?
August 8, 2008 at 8:36 am
Haha. That was indeed a typical Favre play. That just makes me wish Brett was still on the Packers so I could still watch him every Sunday. Since I don’t have Sunday Ticket, the only way I get to see him is through highlights and when he plays in primetime.
August 8, 2008 at 8:39 am
How about you play the Jets at Green Bay in the Snow.
August 8, 2008 at 8:43 am
What are you using for the videos? I can no longer see them? me sad.
August 8, 2008 at 8:50 am
great vid man keep em coming homie

Hey Pasta, does Tenneessee have any option plays in their playbook?
August 8, 2008 at 9:21 am
Well Madden and Hammond sound terrible, Madden has been in the business for how many years, and sounds like he is voice acting STILL?
Trent Edwards cyperface looks like a friggin ken Doll wtf.
Anyways, thanks for the vids Pasta.
August 8, 2008 at 9:23 am
Forgot to add, they need to lose the hell out of that “Injury” Jumbotron, pretty lame.
August 8, 2008 at 9:37 am
welp the looks great.
But holy crap Hammond an Colinsworth sound awful, its so fake! I really like Tom Hammond too…
August 8, 2008 at 9:43 am
Hammond sounds pretty bland but Collinsworth is SPOT on, thatll bring a MUCH needed breath of freshair to the play by play. Im glad they took that radio announcer to the woodshed.
Pasta, hows the AI?
August 8, 2008 at 9:45 am
Pasta-
How do you feel about the pass rush? Are you able to get pressure on the opposing qb? How about the opposing qb completeing 90% of passes like NCAA?
August 8, 2008 at 10:04 am
the nfl logo on the field looks way too small also in the demo i noticed the same thing the nfl and superbowl logo were sooooo small it should be so much bigger
August 8, 2008 at 10:09 am
they should of done something with the halftime show
August 8, 2008 at 10:16 am

Too early for me to say. Right now if that hadn’t have been such a hot topic with NCAA, I don’t think I would’ve identified either as a problem. Since we’re all looking for it though in some ways that can change the perspective on things. So I’m just trying to play and see what stands out.
August 8, 2008 at 10:17 am
the Bills D is nasty! No offensive TD’s by NY…….if it wasn’t for J.P.’s INT that was returned for 6, the Bills woulda kicked the FG there at the end and won 10-9…..I can’t wait for Super Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 8, 2008 at 10:18 am
is this xbox 360?
August 8, 2008 at 10:19 am
hey pasta i know this is off subject but uh do u know if online rankings and skill level will be imported into 09? thanks
August 8, 2008 at 10:40 am
Yo pasta did you get HC too?
August 8, 2008 at 10:42 am
The only thing I don’t like about the game this year is that the players on the sidelines stll look fake. For the life of me I can’t understand why it is so hard for EA to make the players on the sideline look like the players on the field. I also don’t like how the score overlay is dead center in the field of play. They should’ve made it so that the score overlay disappears during gameplay. It takes up too much of the screen. Hopefull EA will send a patch for that but I doubt it. Other than that the game looks good.
hey pasta i know this is off subject but uh do u know if online rankings and skill level will be imported into 09? thanks
Online slate was wiped clean.
Yo pasta did you get HC too?
Nope, just Madden. I won’t have Head Coach until Tuesday.
August 8, 2008 at 11:22 am
I have tons of positives that I liked from those vids (most notibly in presentation) but still two things that remain to erk me in all of the next gen versions of Madden.
1) QB sacks on HANDOFFS!!!!!!
2) never was a big fan of the Jumbotron injury thingie…..
…but hey that’s it! Everything looks to be coming strong this year and I can’t wait to play in the new snow & rain elements-
glad to hear that we start out at 0-0 online finally!!!!!!
August 8, 2008 at 11:26 am
Vids look awesome. I can’t believe people are still griping about dumb stuff like the players appearance on the sideline. I have never once thought a game was crap because of visual fluff that you barely pay attention to while you are playing.
Can you use the Seahawks in their old school unis. Yes, I am from Michigan but a life-long Hawks fan….Bring back the silver helmets…..
August 8, 2008 at 11:27 am
Oh, make that on the road against the Raiders….Brings back memories of the 1984 AFC championship game….
August 8, 2008 at 11:29 am
I didn’t think Hammond sounded that aweful. Anything is better than the radio guy…
August 8, 2008 at 11:34 am
Still just face mask penalties
August 8, 2008 at 11:34 am
Hey Pasta, what are the Jets rated with Favre
August 8, 2008 at 11:36 am
I didn’t think Hammond sounded that aweful. Anything is better than the radio guy…
I second that! I think Collinsworth is annoying in real life but to be honest, him and Hammonds do a great job and it’s one of the things that I am looking most forward to.
August 8, 2008 at 11:50 am
pasta,
let the cpu play against the cpu,so we can see how favre really does!!
August 8, 2008 at 11:50 am
Still just face mask penalties
THERE AREN’T ANY HOLDING CALLS IN MADDEN……….it just would be too unfair I think. At least facemasks only happen like once a game.
August 8, 2008 at 11:53 am
collinsworth is really good in the game he didnt say obvious and stupid things like the radio announcer he makes it feel like its an actual real-life game and hammond isnt great but i could manage when i play for a while
August 8, 2008 at 11:55 am

I wouldn’t call players appearance on the sideline dumb stuff. Of course it’s not the most important element of the game but it would be nice to have the players appearance on the sideline at least look like they belong in this century when it comes to graphics. I mean like it or not this is all part of the overall presentation of the game. I’m not saying the game is trash because of this but it would be nice to see the improvement after 4 years into next gen. I would also like to see the sidelines interactive with collision detection. It’s almost 2009 & with all the power of these Next Gen consoles, we should no longer see players phantomly walking through players on the sideline. Hopefully EA will fix this next year.
August 8, 2008 at 12:01 pm
I don’t mind the sidelines at all…and I consider myself a nit-picker. They are better than last year’s at least. Pasta, can you do a vid of the opening game in Buffalo vs your Hawks? All I ask is that you take it easy on Edwards this time! I would love to see a fly-by of the Ralph!!!
August 8, 2008 at 12:02 pm
That commentary is pretty bland and sounds canned at some points. It’s almost like Hammond took over for the radio guy, but they used the same recording style.
The Collinsworth stuff is fine, but it stands out as kind of an eyesore against Hammond. Sounds like they were recorded at two different studios.
Sure anything is better than the dull radio guy (why EA got away with that for 3 years is beyond me), but this isn’t all that much better.
One ticky-tack thing maybe, I still hate how it zooms up to the videoboard to show those generic looking graphic displays (in the first video at least, for the Edwards injury). I’ve never seen a real videoboard show something that simple in real games…heck, our rookie league baseball team here in Billings, MT has more complex video effects.
Well I won’t complain much longer, the gameplay doesn’t look too bad. I’ve always liked NCAA > Madden and especially this year (despite the lack of FCS teams) because the atmosphere and gameplay go hand in hand. Madden’s never had that good atmosphere on the next-gen.
August 8, 2008 at 12:07 pm
nice footage, but as jets fanatic, i would’ve like to see Keller at TE, or a deep bomb from the pocket, a long run up the gut , just nitpicking.thanks
