Most people would prefer to watch the plays and have full coach control, but in turn that would lead to a time commitment upwards of an hour.

I love the principle behind HC, but is anyone else noticing HC 09 that came with the Madden bundle seems to be an early build, or possibly the worst tested EA game to date. Either I'm crazy or this game is terribly incomplete. The startegy guide tells you you can do things you can't in the game (like the play creator not having play action, but it says it does in the guide...and thats just one example) never mind that you get "goals" that go unexplained like train a certain rookie (O.Schmidt in my case) yet this isn't an option, only the players the CPU decides on are available. I could go on forever. Now, I'm still playing, albeit a little frustrated, but how the hell does EA leave out audibles? I see the other teams do it, but even Manning doesn't audible when I'm in charge. I'm hoping EA will fix this when the solo game releases in Sept., cause if not they are going to have a serious class action on their hands for releasing a product that doesn't do what it says it does even on the box. There is no manual to speak of (and an explanation of how to navigate a menu does not explain how to accomplish certain goals. On barely a tangent, Prima must be on EA's payroll, I've enjoyed their guides before, but the HC one reads like a commercial, and provides virtually no info on how to play the game which is why most people would buy it I assume. If people are buying it for football strategies, either start watching a LOT of old games, or buy a book on football strategy, (believe it or not Football for dummies is excellent) Last I swear is the games horrible defining moments. I had the ball up by 2 with 30something secs on a running clock w/4th down. I let the clock run out and was punished for not going for it on my own 20. I let the clock run out, won, and lost approval....really? Now all that being said, this game might truly be great, but damn hire some of the people on here that know football to test, not someone who thinks the greatest games in the world involve "fantasy" and I don't mean football.

OK... I've seen a lot of people mention how "sick" HC 09 is, but no one's talking about it. C'mon... let's stop complaining about Madden and talk about this game.

Any more impressions on Head Coach? I finally started a career last night. Took the Jets for the helluvit. I like challenges. A couple of comments:

I would get trade offers but I could not figure out how to look at the players attributes! I could see his overall rating and went off of that, but I certainly would have like to see how the player would fit into my team. And that brings up another thing... I couldn't figure out how to see who was already on my team without hitting the "B" button to back out, thus dismissing the offer. This aspect was very frustrating as it seems common sense that a GM needs to know what he has before deciding to trade. I hope I was just ignorant. Did I really miss something?

The other thing I couldn't figure out was in playmaking. The Jets playbook is EXTREMELY limited. It has a 1-back set (which I hate), the I formation and shotgun. So I went to playmaker hoping to create plays using a different set. Is that possible at all? It only gave me options for the sets I already had. That would suck.

Despite these two annoyances. I am really liking the depth of this game. Having to train your players on the plays and having to watch for fatigue and banged up (not totally injured) players are great features. The way coach acceptance works is another great feature. Even playing the games out is kind of exciting, although the scoring seems a little high in the 2 games I've played so far. But that's probably not a large enough sample to judge that yet.

It just goes to show what can be done when you have a 3 year development cycle. Apparently the previous version was a lesson in tedium (I never tried it), but this one seems fresh. ALL sports games should be on a 3-year cycle with $10-15 roster updates on the off years. We'd get MUCH better games that way, of that I am sure.
