The Line Drive

  • A lot of people are curious when the first info on NCAA Basketball 09 will be out. News should be coming in the near future though I don’t know exactly when that might be. There is a community event tentatively scheduled for early September.
  • Right now there is nothing to report on Madden 09′s online play being improved especially regarding the disconnect issues so many are experiencing.
  • Word on what will be included in the second patch for Madden 09 may come as early as this week.
  • Could EA have purchased Euphoria, the tech behind Backbreaker? This report is hardly definitive but it is a possibility.
  • IGN also has the first hands-on preview of NBA 2K9. You can check out a teaser trailer for the game here. There is also the opportunity to take part in Q&A on the game at Operation Sports.
  • League Gaming has a look at the online leagues for NHL 2K9. There are a lot of improvements and probably shows what will be coming for NBA 2K9′s leagues as well. This setup definitely puts the “league” attempts by EA to date to shame.

Yeah, when/if the game materializes. I posted a few times about it last year, but at this point they need to prove its an actual game before anyone can take it seriously.

well…obviously hester has a whole in his stomach…but i am dumbfounded as tho how grossman mustered up the accuracy to deliver the ball to the same spot on more than one occassion…

I had my first disconnect in Madden 09 tonight in the fourth during a field goal attempt.

It’s very frustrating this is happening and nothing is being talked about as to it being addressed. I sure hope it doesn’t get overlooked. It can essentially ruin online play.

i think what pasta is trying to say…and what most video game pundits tend to think…is BackBreaker is really more of an example of how their game engine can be put to use in a football game…while a company can talk about it all they want…before developers buy an engine, they generally want to see a finished product…

    translation:

BB is being developed with the potential to be its own game…but it would actually be more lucrative for the game engine to be sold to previously established football gaming power that also holds the NFL license…clearly BB doesn’t want to go head to head with madden…because without the NFL license…they don’t present much competition…but by making public their development of their ‘game’ and game engine…they are able to increase public interest…catch the eyes of developers…and in the long run name a higher price when the bidding for their game engine begins…

Right. I mean the game still doesn’t even have a publisher or a release date. There hasn’t been any gameplay footage, its been the same teams in the same stadium in all the videos, and we don’t know whether its heading towards being a downloadable title or a full release if it ever reaches that point.

That being said it has/had the potential to be a cool game (though expectations would probably be too high) and I’d certainly be up on that for the site, but at this point there is just not enough to go on. I’m intrigued by it but we need to see it fully realized, they need to demonstrate that it is a viable game. That’s what I was getting at.

I think the exclusive trailer that was launched on GTV is a good reason to believe it’s a game. They also have a relationship with IGN where they were publishing dev diaries.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t have an actual game in the works and be doing those things. It might be that they are struggling to get it complete and maybe the EA rumors of a bought out might be preventing things from moving along.

It’d make sense for EA to buy this technology. EA doesn’t need a game showing them up in the tackle dept. Both Madden and NCAA still don’t have proper tackling mechanics, where user controlled players still dive through gang would be gang tackles.
