EA-Take Two Saga Continues

In a press release today it was stated that EA and Take Two discussed the the potential acquisition over the course of the weekend. EA has now accepted Take Two’s offer to provide them with a presentation that includes non-public information. EA will allow their offer for the outstanding shares to expire at at midnight eastern tonight.

Basically what this means is that because EA doesn’t feel it could integrate Take Two in order to take advantage of the holiday season and as such they will reevaluate the offer. From the beginning that was the first goal of the deal for EA. On the other side Take Two is attempting to prove they are actually worth more than what EA is offering. But the two sides are talking which is more than could be said previously.

At this point regardless of what happens the upcoming 2K Sports releases (NBA 2K9, NHL 2K9) should not be affected.

Take Two is garbage. EA just wants to further their monopolistic interests.

take two isn’t garbage…but a hybrid of the two game company’s sports game engines could have great results…imagine the best of what 2KFootball and Madden already do ALL on one disc…(combine that with the Euphoria engine used in Backbreaker…and we could see a TRULY next generation offering of football…of course this is all talk at the moment…and unless something happens soon, we may not even see the fruits of deal such as these for another couple years…

Sometimes it’s like EA just goes window shopping…”I’ll take that, two of those, that one there and a dozen of those.”

TTWO is down to 24.25 today. That makes the deal EA has on the table 1.50 more per share. Imagine if the deal was finally off, TTWO would probably drop below 20. It looks like they’re wanting this to happen but are trying to squeeze a little more out of it from EA.

I think that EA was focused on made the deal before GTA IV was out. Now they don’t have such hurry to acquire TT.

I personally think that EA won’t acquire TT ever, even more now that they can’t publish GTA IV as EA.

    Peace

You need to remember that EA is a publisher first and formost. By buying TTI they are aquiring more than just sports franchises. They are buying the publishing rights to games like Civ 4, Bioshock, etc.

You don’t buy a compbany then dissolve it. You have to remember that there are share holders involved here. If an when EA acquires TTI they will still publish sports games from Visual Concepts.

All you NFL 2k5 sports fans should be praying for an EA acquistion. If it goes through then you will see your NFL liscensed football game come back and the competition you so desparately want will be back.

I would like to see EA get the MLB license. 2K’s baseball games have been in decline.

Keep holding out Take 2. EA is great and all, but it won’t do anyone any good for them to control the sports gaming universe. Now bring back college basketball, damnit!

I think people look at it like EA Sports Buying 2K Sports. It’s very possible Visual Concepts gets spun off and all things 2K Sports is not in EA’s hands.

Like Daley stated, there’s a bigger picture. civilation, Bioshock, GTA are huge profits for EA if they can nab them. 2K Sports to them is expendable.

Why is EA so bent on acquiring Take Two? I understand that in the long term of things it would mean more money for them but It seems like they’re doing just fine business wise without own them too. Initially is was stated that Take Two was having financial difficulties & they were the ones who initiated talks with EA but it seems like they’re resisting EA’s offers & sticking to their guns. I personally hope that EA doesn’t acquire Take Two. It’s never good for gamers when one company monopolizes.

No they wont. EA will never do that. They already have Madden and thats working great for them. They wont bring in another NFL game to compete with it.

EA needs to fall back & quit trying to take over everything. It’s a matter of billionaires wanting more money. Quit being greedy! EA used to be great but they’ve really fallen off. Their games are average now. Maybe that’s why their trying to aquire Take Two so that they can get some developers that know how to make a solid game.

Think about it. If EA has both lisences, why not put out a Visual Concepts game and a EA Tiburon game? You’d make 2k fans happy and would bring in profit from both games. Sounds like a good idea to me.

EA can triple their profits on NFL licensed games that way w/Head Coach, Madden and NFL2K……some peeps would buy more than one (some all 3). I would really miss NBA2k if it left but that would be so dumb on EA’s part. :(

I’ve always thought there was a void in January/February that could be taken advantage of. Release the 2K game during the playoffs then. Though I think Head Coach might make more sense coming soon after the Super Bowl.
