EA Sports Developing Tennis Game

One sport that has been missing from EA Sports lineup of games has been tennis. Today EA announced that they are currently working on one. The game will release first on the Wii in 2009 before coming to other consoles. It is being developed out of EA Canada and will be their first game to use the upcoming Wii MotionPlus.

EA SPORTS will bring tennis to life and allow players to experience the pressure and excitement of competing in the greatest theaters in the game, and it will be the only videogame to feature the All England Lawn Tennis Club – home of The Championships, Wimbledon. The all-new EA SPORTS tennis franchise will offer innovative ways to play, both as or against the greatest players from the past or present, letting you control the ball and work the court like you never have before in a tennis videogame.

ive wondered why ea didnt have tennis for a long time. this sounds like it could be better than top spin which really isnt fun anymore.

Yeah this is pretty exiciting news since Wii MotionPlus is going to make the commands so much more responsive and precise. This game has the potential to be excellent on the Wii beyond any sports games on the console currently thanks to that.

Hey Pasta, NBA LIVE has new videos out. The Mobley steal/leap animation really got me excited.

hopefully ea buys all the tennis player licenses so we can get more than 16 players on a single tennis game. i hated other tennis games allowing 16 players.

Tennis hasn’t been that great so far. Hopefully Ea will come up with something good.

This one has a lot of potential, but we have said that before about EA Sports combining with the Wii. A couple of their games work ok, but some of them are horrible. Let’s hope they have taken their time with this one to make it great.

I’m looking forward to hearing more in the near future.

Tennis is a game that is underrated in the video game world. I hope EA does it justice.

I am also in agreement that EA needs to bring NCAA Baseball to the next-gen consoles. If anything, it will allow development time in the event EA gets a shot at the MLB license down the road….

After seeing the Wii motion plus at E3, I think that’ll be a perfect fit for a tennis game. Hopefully EA will make the game with great ball physics and online play, and this could be a very good game, and very realistic to playing real tennis.

I’d play any hockey game, I’m getting NHL 09 and NHL 2K9 on release dates. So yeah, I’d play college game. Would love a roller hockey (street hockey) type game too.
