Latest NBA Live 09 Q&A

NLSC has posted up a Q&A with NBA Live 09 producer Brian Ullrich. There is a good deal of information given and different aspects of the game touched on. This includes the Dynamic DNA, Live 365, the upcoming demo for 360/PS3, FIBA team selection process, and whether it will be as easy to drive to the lane as has been seen in some preview videos (despite the assurances of this not being the case from those at the community event). Click here to read the full Q&A.

Now now guys, let’s not jump on Jerrod. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I’m mean if he likes a robotic, arcady, overhyped game (that still doesn’t even has passing, rebounding, or net physics right) more than a realistic sim experience then by all means he’s entitled to that. Let’s cut him a little slack.

On a serious note, one thing that I do appreciate about Live is that they show us a lot gameplay videos & they give us a lot of info prior to release. But then again they have to advirtise more to get us to buy into their inferior product. 2K let’s the game speak for itself. Instead of putting millions into advirtising, 2K would rather put that into game development.
I think it was a very honest answer with the ease of getting to baskets we’ve seen in the videos. I think about it, and yes sometimes it is that easy.

They have a 5 minute video out there that really highlights the gameplay which I think is a lot better than what we’ve been seeing, looks a lot more complete. And of course the gameplay has improved. He’s talked about improving the gameplay on his blogs, and of course they are going to highlight their new features, that’s just good business sense.

As for the comments of “decades” ahead. I’m sorry, 2K has been heavily flawed. Yes its the best basketball series in this next gen era, but that’s not saying much is it? It’s success has primarily depended on Lives failures. Last Gen NBA games were getting reviewed and ranked in the high 8′s out of 10s, both these games are getting mid to high 7′s. Yes 2K has been fluid, but thats because it has animations that you can’t break out of (leading to some very funny scenarios) I saw Yao Ming do a a between the legs, then a cross over before giving up the ball IN THE BACK COURT!!!!….yeah, thats real. But seriously, until we start demanding more out of our games, then they won’t be improving much. 2K fans, instead of being blind and bashing Live, maybe you should look at your own game and demand more out of it and fix their glitches and what not. Prime example of how 2K’s “success” is depedent on Live’s failures.

And no I’m not a Live fanboy. I’ve bought every basketball game since the NES days for every system that I’ve owned. I like innovation, combined with realistic game play along with a fun factor, great graphics and the full 9. Both these games haven’t done that yet for me, but i can appreciate when the effort is being made.

Fanboys: Reignman and Sdot to retaliate in 5…4….3…2….1
Your point is well taken but honestly I think the reason Live gets so much flack is because of the way EA tries to overhype their games. I understand as a company it’s your job to advirtise your product for business purpose but when you hype the game up so much & every year it doesn’t deliver, well then you have to expect the backlash. I’ve been a Live fan since Lakers vs Celtics & I don’t have a bias either way. I’m just really tired of EA’s act year after year & I feel it’s only right that people don’t by into the hype.

Live hasn’t necessarily hyped a game up, rather their features. It’s a good marketing scheme which has worked for years. In the end this is about making $$$ people. This is the exact reason why 2K shut down their college game, it wasn’t making any money.

I follow both 2K and Live news, every article, every video, every photo. When the final product comes out, I’m honestly not surprised by either game, because I know what to expect. Was Live 08 better than Live 07, 06? Yes it was, so they didn’t really lie when it said it was improved game play and good new features.

To me, Live hasn’t been misleading, but I think a lot of 2K owners are closet Live fans and are hoping for a come back every year and the first ones to scream bloody murder. Just my opinion.

You are right in many things.

My last word about the hype: You see so many disappointed and angry(once-were) live fans, coz in the last decade the EA hype-machine overrided the expectations every time before the release, and the final product was mediocre. EA producers are seriously like dirty politicians 2 weeks before elections…

I have no idea why none of EA’s games boast any classic teams. That was one of the things I enjoyed about some of the past-gen renditions.

Do you know if classic uniforms will be represented in Live? I wish EA would include every jersey worn by a franchise. To see the Charlotte Hornets old purple alternates would be sweet…..

There are fan boys on here, but Reignman seems to be the only one of them that actually really makes sound and valid arguments. I think he’s a true sports gamer.
