More on NBA Live 09 Rewind

Coming out of the community event I was in the minority when it came to the opinion of the Rewind feature in NBA Live 09. I felt that outside of the prospect of having the daily roster updates which is how 365 will likely be viewed by the masses, that Rewind had the potential for the most wide ranging appeal. Being able to replay any actual game from last season or the upcoming one with the accurate rosters, ratings, and tendencies from that very game is intriguing. I was only disappointed that the Rewind games didn’t make it in as an unranked online option.

IGN has a short Q&A up with producer Gareth Reeder with an accompanying video. More on 365 and how it ties in with the Rewind feature are discussed.

alright…let’s cut to the chase…what game is going to play better this year? i don’t think that NBA 2K is going to take that big of a step forward…but then again…NBA Live is in need of a good number of big steps in order to even catch up with 2K…which game is your money on this year?

Personally I think people who are comfortable with one over the other aren’t going to flip flop. Maybe the general consensus will be that Live has closed the gap or however people want to look at it though. It’s tough to gauge at this point how these games are going to end up being received.

Oh wow, it is rare, when producers are so desperetly advertising a game, pros would be more creditable.

At least I know now, why the Live series got a so bad player-movement system, probably the producers made the motion capturing (he stepped 5 before the second shot)…

About Rewind, it does not make much sense for me, do not extend the joy of the pure gameplay, it is unrealistic during a game to make a matrix effect. IMO 2k9 is the winner trying to make the game looks like a real TV broadcast, EA is trying to reinvent a game with sci-fi effects and useless player DNA modifications.

The producer said Rewind is ‘playing a game that happened in the past’… Yeah, EA should do the same, return to the quality basketball games from the late 90′.

Not gonna lie I was a huge fan of Nba live on the ps2 but ever since both went to the ps3 I’m all about 2k. And after seeing what EA has offered once again it doesn’t impress me that much, but thats just my opinion. For me when I play 2k I feel like im playing a REAL basketball game but when I play live at my friends house I feel like im playing an arcade version of basketball. And the rewind feature is ok if you’re into that type of thing but personally I really don’t feel like playing past games.

On another note I can’t wait for 2k’s online feature announcement… pasta or anyone else do you have any idea when they’re going to announce it?

I am still thinking about this Rewind, but can not understand it. Okay, last year we had a few big games, outstanding performances, and EA shall change the player tendencies and DNA according to the players gamestats. And what is then? If You are trying to replay that game, it will be completely different, just the player rating were slightly changed. What is the point?

I just imagine an EA brainstorming, how they could get more, and more and more from this DNA feature. They can change players DNA as they performed in real games…but what is then? Who cares?

EA is pushing these downloadable features, as I know their marketing, sooner or later You will have to pay for the daily updates, special old games.

Love basketball in general and play basketball on a team, which means i love realistic basketball games and live is just not it, to many unrealistic things expecially how easy kobe gets to the lane and dunks on anyone in his path, 2k is the way to go if your a simulation basketball gamer or player in the realworld. Yea Ea is starting to get annoying with all these hype videos of the game and diffrent features, screw features fix the lousy gameplay and make us gamer have 2 good choices of basketball to play

But seriously, could anyone explain me, why rewind is a remarkable feature? Is it even a feature? Modified DNA, thats all. Gareth’s little show was not convincing. Just simply funny.

Please explain me, I want to understand it!

…. yea I agree with you, it’s not all that appealing. I just feel like EA’s trying way to hard and in doing so hyping up these “revolutionary” features like its the second coming in gaming. This happens every year with Live and 2k (and pretty much all of EA’s sports games), EA hypes the shit out of them while 2k sits back and 2k comes out with a better basketball game. For me it’s all about gameplay, franchise mode, and taking it online. All these other features are pointless and I feel that although it looks like lives gameplay has gotten better from last years it’s still to “arcady” for me.

I think 2k is the better game, but I wish they would do something about how slow the spin moves and SOME player movements R. I feel like most of the quick players in the league like monta ellis, tony parker, chris paul, and barbosa, have slow moves except that quick hesitation LT or L2 triggers. It feels like Im playing in slow motion. If I speed up the game then it just doesn’t feel natural. I have read that 2k is improving their graphics and transition game along with other things, but I hope that helps the fastbreak get organized. EA….. I’m still buying live this year (2k also) but PLEASE can U get a relistic net swoosh. I know U have made good improvments this year and UR on the right track but PLEASE. 1 more thing I would like 2 C 4 example, tony parker beats his man and gets in the lane, when the help defense comes 2 try and block parkers shot… i wish there was some good dump off pass animations so duncan can just catch the pass under the basket and dunk it without a delay that just messes everything up and lets the defense recover. I do like that if a rookie is kickin ass that you will C the ratings improve after a couple of games in nba live 09 instead of waiting until next year or the next roster update. Hopefully this feature wont B A bust.
