NBA Live 09 Demo Out Now

In a surprise early release the demo for NBA Live 09 is now available for the 360. Given that this is a Thursday it could also bode well for the PS3 receiving it today, though no confirmation of that is available at this time. The demo wasn’t expected to be out until the second or third week of the month.

In the demo you can Play as the Celtics vs Lakers but EA has given the opportunity to play with them from different points in the season as a way to showcase the Live 365 and Player DNA features. You can play with them as current, from the 11/23/07 game, or from the 6/8/08 NBA Finals game. You can also shoot around in the practice gym. Several settings can be changed for the demo including difficulty level, sliders, rules, and camera angle. The quarter length is locked in at two minutes for one half of play.

Feel free to leave your thoughts on the demo in the comments or forum. I’ll have some videos up tonight and through the weekend along with some comparison thoughts to the build I played back at the community event.

After playing the demo a few times here are my thoughts……players seem to rebound better I actually saw bynum box out which I thought was cool. I blocked a dunk which did not happen to many times last yr!!!! I like the new free throw mechanics, and I am glad they brought the pratice gym back. I dont know if this is final build or not but it def is better than last year hopefully they can put some more touches on the game before it ships!!

Bori Q, I’ve only played with the Lakers, but I know Fisher and Kobe have signature shots as does Garnett, Allen and Pierce. I’ll take a deeper look today. Signature free throw styles are in, but nowhere near the animations of 2K from what I’ve been reading. Pierce at the line is nice to see. Garnett’s go to move, fadeway shot looks awesome and fluid, it’s unstoppable!

The thing I like most this version of Live is that you can’t abuse the right analog to dominate a game. Your going to have to use pick and role, your going to have to find the open man, you’re going want to run plays. IMO in super star mode this is no longer a dunk feast. No more spin move after spin move and to the basket and hitting the dunk button.

I played about 3 hours worth of this last night, and I’ll tell you that each time the game played different. The AI runs plays, utilizes its team DNA, the open man actually shoots and murders you (don’t leave Allen open). Paul Pierce and Rondo did a lot of ball handling. What I liked was that I started off on a 10-2 run against the Celtics, and I thought to myself (I’ve mastered this), but they scored 3 baskets in a row.

This game does have sophistication to it, unlike past versions.

If you liked NBA Live 2008, you’re going to fall in Love with 2009.

If you liked 2K8, your going to feel so-so to good about this game and maybe cross the line back over because of the new features and modes, but shouldn’t be a threat to 2K’s base.

If you’re a die hard 2K fan, your going to hate everything about this game.

If you’re a die hard Live fan, your going to swear this is the greatest game ever made.

The demo plays a lot better than any of the videos appear. I was very impressed.

I also liked the practice court and the ability to roam between the different courts within the practice facility. That was a sweet touch…..

If anyone is not going to try the demo based on the past few years’ disappointments, I recommend that you do. Can’t wait to see the 2K demo and see how it stacks up.

I 100% agree! The button configuration this year is too complexed! Classic case of EA outhinking themselves! Why does EA keep changing the dribbling controls each year? Just when you get used to something they change it. The dribbling feels way too canned this year!

I prefer the new dribbling mechanics. You’re going to have to master it to make it a weapon depending on who you’re playing with, and it forces you to focus on other elements of the game to be successful.

In Live 08 I would get a pick and hit the right analog stick up and get into the lane and dunk with Kobe.

Quick strike is still there, they haven’t changed that, they’ve just added quick strike ankle breakers.

As for the charge button, I like that being changed as well, because now your going to have to take an extra second to get set for the charge, and if the oppossing player sees that he can readjust if neccessary and get by his player. I hated playing online play and people would cheat using the B button.

News flash, 99% of the time when a demo is released, there is very little if anything they can do to change the game.
