Kevin Love is the NCAA Basketball 09 Cover Athlete

In news that comes as somewhat of a surprise, Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves is the cover athlete for EA Sports NCAA Basketball 09. Love entered the NBA Draft after his freshman season at UCLA and was taken fifth in the draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. He was then involved in a trade for OJ Mayo that sent him to Minnesota. He averaged 17.5 ppg and 10.6 rpg and helped lead UCLA to the Final Four.

Love was certainly not the most likely choice to get the cover. Both Derek Rose and Michael Beasley were bigger names from more high profile markets. Love though continues a trend (with the exception of last year) that has seen the college basketball games tending to pass over the top draftees.

Expect the cover reveal and possibly the first details on the game to come on Thursday.

I don’t think that discussing the cover choices means that we are ignoring the importance of the games being good. I’m just talking about the covers having boring players.

video game companies cant always put the best player on the cover thats boring i would be tired of video games if for example nba live put lebron,kobe,kg duncan etc.

Good move. Beasely and Rose will get their covers in future basketball games. I like the conservative moves. Giving effective players recognition, who played outstanding in their respective leagues.

Even though Tony Parker isn’t considered an upper echelon franchise player, he is just as effective as anyone, dangerous…has won championships, a finals MVP. Who can guard him?

As for the racist comment….how many white people have graced the cover for the US version of NBA LIVE? Tony Parker is black, hate to break it to you. Blacks aren’t just exclusive to America and Africa.
