First NCAA Basketball 09 Details

Along with the official announcement from EA Sports of Kevin Love as the cover athlete has come the first details on NCAA Basketball 09. Now that the game has finally been announced hopefully screenshots and more news on the title will be coming soon.

NCAA Basketball 09 is not just a new name; it introduces a new way to play college basketball that mirrors real life. A new, strategic gameplay feature challenges gamers to replicate their school’s style of play, set the tempo and win. Whether your school plays up tempo looking to push the ball in transition, runs a half-court offense that utilizes the clock and limits possessions or features a balanced attack that combines transition offense with set plays, NCAA Basketball 09 rewards the strategic gamer and emphasizes team specific styles of play.

NCAA Basketball 09 will feature Division I coaches in-game for the first time. Each coach will provide real time instruction and feedback, helping gamers control the tempo by executing their team’s offense and defense to perfection.

This year on Xbox 360 and PS3, NCAA Basketball 09 will operate on a new gameplay engine with over 1,000 new animation sequences that deliver a more responsive experience with improved ball physics and more intelligent AI. The new animation system enables gamers to apply pressure defense with new full-court presses and traps. Plus, improved AI and animations enable quicker players to get up and down the floor faster and make better decisions running the lanes and driving to the rim. Animations can be interrupted at any time, enabling you to read and respond to the action on the floor, just like real life.

Nothing really thrilling to take out of all that, though the benefits would be realized when playing the game. We’ve also learned that NCAA is now working off the NBA Live engine there will be no Campus Legend type mode. The release date, though not comfirmed by EA, appears to be Tuesday December 2nd. Certainly there is a lot more to find out about the game going forward.

when it says coaches will be in the game…does that mean the actual coaches with their names? as opposed to the standard Missouri Coach from previous college football games…

Working off the NBA Live engine is making me happy! No Campus Legend type mode makes me sad…. this will be a rental first, I’m not dropping 60 bucks to be disappointed again

I sure hope the player editor is far better than last year.

Black socks added, all the pads that were missing from last year. The face editor is alot better than last year. I hope they have more hairstyles available and moves like NBA live last year. To be able to make the players look like their real life counterparts would really enhance this game. Also that there are more players on the roster instead of of the number of players they had last year in the game.

This game sounds good to me… If you guys played it last year even when they had all the problems im sure you guys will play the hell out of it this year.

We’ll see I guess…I have some hopes for this game, but I’m anticipating mostly disappointment. After MM08 they must do some massive overhaul to make this game compete on a level with the “late” College Hoops series (RIP). I’ll hold my judgment though and give it the benefit of the doubt til I see the final product.

Dude, its time for you to get a reality check. We are not talking about the real game, are talking about video games. Hockey has always ruled the sports landscape since NHL 94 came out. Further more Hockey is one of the only sports franchises that they “GET RIGHT” each year, which brings me to my final point which is NHL 08 was voted sports game of the year by 7 different media outlets and NHL 09 surpasses 08 in almost every category.

So don’t give me that BS that Hockey is weak and it can’t $%#$ with B-ball. It owns these sports in the video game universe and that is what we are talking about here.

Be a pro mode has been in football only it was called Superstar mode and it basically is boring since you can’t play both ways. However I agree it would work well in B-ball since you play both ways, O and D.

In NHL 09 it is actually MORE fun to play than the regular game mode. You really get that feeling that you are a part of something and it really makes you play hard.

On a side note, the graphics in NHL 09 are unparalelled. Its hard to believe its only 720p. Madden doesn’t even come close to the sharness and detail of this game. EA CANADA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if they can get NBA 08 to look that good then we will surely have a winner on our hands.

You sound like a guy who doesn’t understand the difference between the 2 games and why they CAN coexist. It is no mystery that the 2k series draws its appeal from its close knit simulation style of play while the Live series draws theirs from there arcade style of play.

What you don’t realize is that the 2k series is essentially the same each year with 2k8 actually being slightly less polished than 2k7. EA on the other hand has vastly improved from the 07 Live and 08 was actually a very good game.

With there implementation of the Daily player stat update feature this year, EA stands to capture the true essence of basketball. This feature could pave the way for all sports games and could finally put to rest the argument over player stats which is a sore subject amongst us Madden players.
