Here is the complete list of changes for the third Madden 09 roster update. There are some ratings adjustments, though just one week of play won’t correspond to a significant difference. It is the injuries that dominate the importance of this update. Tom Brady and Vince Young are the biggest names affected.
The targeted release of this update has been for tomorrow and I will update with further information on the timing (as of Friday morning the update is out). Producer Phil Frazier did tell me that their goal is now to release a new one every week during the season. Continue on to view the full list.

Ratings Up
HB Matt Forte – Bears – 80 to 82 – Looked like the real deal week 1 vs. the Colts.
LG Josh Beekman – Bears – 74 to 76 – Got the start and at LG and was able to pave the way for Forte on the ground.
HB Andre Hall – Broncos – 75 to 77 – Looked very explosive against the hapless Raiders.
WR Eddie Royal – Broncos – 77 to 80 – Made us remember why we call him DeAngelo “Fall”. Torched DeAngelo repeatedly and looked very good doing it.
LB Jamie Winborn – Broncos – 75 to 79 – Started over the oft injured Boss Bailey and made plays vs. the Raiders.
LB Matt Roth – Dolphins – 76 to 80 – Could have found his niche as a 3-4 OLB. Had 2 sacks in the opener.
WR DeSean Jackson – Eagles – 79 to 80 – Has made the most of receivers going down with injuries in Philly. Tye Hill was benched after attempting to cover him.
LB Stewart Bradley – Eagles – 79 to 80 – The new man in the middle for the Eagles, this one might stick.
HB Michael Turner – Falcons – 88 to 89 – If I had a nickel for every time someone blew up on the Lions defense…A good start none the less for the Burner Turner.
LB Parys Haralson – 49ers – 74 to 76 – Recorded 2.5 sacks getting the start for the Niners in Week 1.
HB Brandon Jacobs – Giants – 87 to 88 – My mother could average 3 yards a carry behind the Giants O-Line. But he sure is powerful.
WR Matt Jones – Jaguars – 77 to 79 – Maybe Garrard’s guy after a tough offseason. Injuries to the supposed starting WR’s have helped also.
QB Aaron Rodgers – Packers – 84 to 85 – Made it look simple vs. one of the top defenses in the NFL. Once the coach takes off the diapers watch out.
TE Dante Rosario – Panthers – 74 to 77 – Blew up in a big way in Week 1 vs. the Chargers. Caught the game winner in the back of the end zone as time expired.
Ratings Down
DE Jarvis Moss – Broncos – 81 to 77 – Inactive the 1st week in his second season for the Broncos.
LB Tully Banta-Cain – 49ers – 79 to 76 – Came to the Niners with high hopes, now he has been replaced at OLB.
CB DeAngelo Hall – Raiders – 93 to 91 – Yes after only one week. Reminded us why some people confuse speed with ability. He has speed, isn’t much of a corner though.
Injuries
FB Jeremi Johnson – Bengals – Knee IR
LB Angelo Crowell – Bills – Knee IR
WR Joe Jurevicius – Browns – Knee (PUP)
HB Carnell Wililams – Bucs – Knee (PUP)
Well… This roster update was well worth the wait…EXCEPT for one thing. I HAVE NO KICKER!!! I got the roster update #3 this afternoon. When i went in and looked at my depth chart for the Miami Dolphins, all the columns are EMPTY. I have no starting kicker. Where is Dan Carpenter? My punter is kicking the ball off in my franchise now and the kicker has the WRONG name in game. The name is someone that is not even on the Phins roster. It showed up as Carney. I deleted the roster and downloaded it again just to make sure that there was not a glitch… Same thing again. He was supposed to be added in roster update #2… How can you say you have testers but overlook something like that? Once again….another let down.
lol thats the funniest thing eva..i have no kicker i could just picture someone saying that

Because Travis Henry’s probably Selvin Young’s daddy. Dude is one baby short of a 5 on 5 basketball team.

I’ve got the perfect sponsor for DeAngelo Hall
Monday night’s performance by DeAngelo Hall should net him a sponsor. I can see the commercial now…
They show film of Monday night’s game with DeAngelo getting worked all night by rookie WR Eddie Royal. The camera does a close up of DeAngelo, looking dejected as he picks himself up off the ground with the Black Hole telling him he sucks. Then you hear the announcer’s voice say, “…wanna get away?!”. He’s the new Southwest spokesman.

September 15, 2008 at 7:17 pm
“hey does anyone know why my franchise freezes when i get about 6 or 7 years into my franchise???”
To make sure you buy the next year’s version.
September 15, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Do then not have LONG SNAPPERS in madden??? Why isn’t Greg Warren on the Steelers? He is not a recent addition or anything.
September 16, 2008 at 11:31 am

September 16, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Join a game on xbox live
September 16, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Hey…quick question! I have XBOX live silver…can I not get the roster updates? I turn on xbox 360 and go on live…but I don’t get the updates…Any ideas
September 16, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Leo…so, it’s not an automatic update like when you first put the game in and the dashboard says “….blah blah blah update and do not turn off XBOX 360..”
September 17, 2008 at 8:53 am
#84Mark Jones WR who is a punt returner for the Carolina Panthers. He is not on any of the rosters for download while online. I would like for him to be added to the Carolina Panthers team. He has been in the league for 5 years and I am sure you can dig up his info. Also still waiting on what the plans are for a possible better practice mode.

pasta any news on when the patch is coming out?
September 17, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Word from the Packers’ receivers is that Rodgers has a stronger arm than Favre does now at this point in his career, EA should look into that.

September 17, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Here’s the most recent article about Rodgers’ tremendous arm strength, from Peter King this past week.

September 17, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Also, I can’t find the video, but Greg Jennings was recently interviewed saying that if you weren’t careful catching balls in practice, Rodgers would “blow your gloves off.”
September 17, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Does anyone know if Jo-Lonn Dunbar(MLB) from the Saints will ever be in Madden 09?
September 17, 2008 at 6:42 pm
?????????……this makes no sense to me…..Julius jones got dropped to an 82 in one of the other roster updates but in the week 2 game agains SF he rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown….SF has a good run deffense too…..how did his raiting not go up? he is 10th in the league in rushing…..HIS RAITING SHOULD GO UP! ENOUGH SAID!
September 17, 2008 at 7:07 pm
No its not automatic you need to sign in to ea and join a online game you then get a option to download latest rosters. So probably impossible to get with a silver xbox live account.
September 17, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Leo…I tried that. Went so far as to go into the xbox live lobby, but no rosters. Should I actually play a game?
September 17, 2008 at 9:29 pm

September 18, 2008 at 9:01 am
So will Antonio Cromartie see his ratings take a hit like DeAngelo Hall’s did for one bad game???? Dang well better. he gave up 18 catches to one WR. I bet he doesn’t see a hit though. Hall struggled because the raiders had trouble stoppin the run and had to put 7 or 8 in the box every play. That left Hall on an Island where he had to give cushion thus giving up some catches underneath. Cromartie got str8 roasted all day so I expect to see him drop for one bad game too. I know B. Marshall is good but 18 catches??!??
September 19, 2008 at 2:14 am
Any word on the new patch update? Earlier messages by pasta said 2-3 week of September…
In other news…I never played NCAA football, but I think this year, NCAA plays and looks much better than Madden.
For me playing with Falcons, seems as if as soon as I drop back, I have defensive linemen in back field and NO1 gets open. BLAH oh well..maybe just me!
Need help with roster downloads…help!!
September 19, 2008 at 3:09 am
Replying to Fin:
). The comp is much smarter on these next-gen consoles and won’t be fooled as easily if you call repetitive plays (I know, I tend to call the same plays that I know work, lol).
Yeah, Madden does play different this year. I play it on PS3 and I was really disappointed with last year’s version (bad port job from X-Box to PS3), but I think this year it’s not too bad. I always change the overhead view from whatever the default is back to the classic view. It might help to slide your protection over to the side of the line that they’re loading up on, and don’t run play action unless you’re running effectively. Also, if you’re getting sacked quickly even on regular dropbacks, then run faster, shorter routes and dump the ball of quickly, maybe some 5-10 yard out routes or some short inside slants (watch out for the linebackers!
Oh, to download the roster you need to go into the online and join a quick match (ranked or unranked doesn’t matter), it’ll check for roster updates, then if you need them it downloads them, then just bounce out without starting the match.
September 19, 2008 at 4:29 am
does anyone know if there will be a new roster update today
September 19, 2008 at 10:27 pm
How do I download rosters so I can play them in non online modes against friends?
October 22, 2008 at 3:41 pm
I am in my second season in franchise mode (offline) and now all of the sudden when I try to train my players before the next week, when it loads the screen dims to dark and freezes, but you can hear the drill going on in the background and I can even play the drill by hearing it, but ultimately I have to restart my PS3. I erased that season and tried to start a new one, but the problem reamins. Anyone else having this problem and is there any help on the way??????????…it’s depressing
