Solid NBA 2K9 Preview

While we are now three weeks out from release of NBA 2K9 and have not yet seen the game in action (outside of the early E3 footage) it is only a matter of time until the media finally arrives. That appears to be inching closer as Jon Robinson of ESPN has posted up a full preview of the game. There is also the big online feature still to be officially unveiled and one would think that would be happening within the next week or so.
Last year, gamers complained about 2K8 being a tad slower than 2K7, so the developers pushed the speed back to 2K7 levels while at the same time adding even more authenticity to the way the players on the court move and react.
Of interest from the preview are notes on the Association mode and NBA.com integration, the advanced shot stick, improvements to player personalities, and 2K Share options amongst other areas that are touched on. You can check out the full preview here.

with no gameplay media I still think 2k9 gonna be good, I’m also enjoying the LIve 09 demo people a basing the demo as if its the final build but whtever. i didnt like either game last both felt to stale to me even with 2k8 being the better game last year it wasnt big of a jump from 2k7 imo. Its good to see both game are looking good.

Yeah man good post pasta I think this was the same thing that happen when I had both nfl 2k5 and Madden I didn’t think either game was great but both were very good, but every time I would bring over nfl 2k5 to some of my friends house it was always man this game sucks put in madden without even realy trying to get a grip of the game, and vice versa with madden. I think people need to stop trying to find every negative thing about a game that challenges a simular game they like.

The screens look awesome. But whats up with the Dwight Howard dunk screen. It looks like he rolled his ankle really bad.

graphics looks crazy good and player models look almost exactly like their counterparts. the crowd also looks awesome unlike EA crowds where almost everyone wears the same colors and does the same thing.

The presentation seemed solid in the Live demo…I liked you could replay the previous play by pressing the “LT”…I haven’t played Live in YEARS!!!…I couldn’t really take it seriously once I picked up 2K7…It was just clear to me that it was superior (not saying it didnt have flaws because no game is ABSOLUTELY perfect…people will always find something wrong) but Ive been much more pleased with 2K’s Basketball as a whole…even the College Hoops which has now dissolved was better than March Madness…IMO. I might rent Live but 2K has turned into Madden for me in that I will buy it without seeing any media really. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and likes and dislikes but 2K’s gameplay trumps Live….without even going to graphics, signature style, etc. The DNA feature is cool and all but mostly only for rosters…if Kobe is in a slump…doesnt mean I need him to be in my Franchise.

sdot = reason why Dave Chapelle is famous(let it marinate)…. I think for people that enjoy a sim experience 2k is the choice, and if you’re into more of an arcade type of game then live is it. I happen to like 2k after being an EA “fanboy”(lol) since the early 90’s. Pasta got me all amped for live this year then I played the demo and was royally disappointed.
I hope the association online is the big 2k announcement. please,please,please

Objectivity is overrated when it comes to comparing these two franchises. While Pasta may play the cerebral impartial judge concerning these two series, its obvious that 2K is the dominant force in basketball video for a while now. The only way they wouldve been supplanted would have been the NBA ala the NFL, seeking an exclusive license, at which, EA would have jumped at quicker than a fat kid downing a twinkie, due to their financial advantage. Unlike most people, I like this “guerrilla marketing” tactic being used by 2K, as it is building up the anticipation to unprecendented levels in the annals of sports video game history. REMEMBER FAM, A PURCHASE OF LIVE 09 is a synonomous with A VOTE FOR JOHN MCSAME; it’s just counter to rational thought given the evidence that you the voter/purchaser has in front of you as to which is the better product/candidate. WE DONT BELIEVE YOU EA, YOU NEED MORE PEOPLE!!!

True but at the same time Pasta has an alliance with NBA Live. It’s probably killing him to even post this info about 2K. Pasta never really posts info about 2K. He didn’t last year either. He probably just posted this to keep some credibility on his site so that he doesn’t come off as a Live fanboy.

No need to worry my brotha..2K did the same thing last year. They didn’t show any gameplay vids until like 2 weeks before release. Live has to pump their game up as much as possible to make up for their gameplay flaws. 2K lets puts their money into gameplay not advirtising. I know it sucks because we all want gameplay vids to compare games but 2K will always deliver when it comes to basketball believe that!

I played Live 07 and was gonna buy 08 but my friend was like “Man, you gotta get 2k8, it’s the best b-ball game ever.”
So I did and I got hooked. I am PISSED that 2k dropped its College Hoops franchise but, what the heck, 2k9 will still be a spectacular game even with made-up rookies.

Seriously, Pasta has posted vids and news on 2K whenever 2K releases information. Last year 2K was tight lipped as well until the final month. Prize Fighter, APF, TOPSPIN…Pasta has given coverage to 2K games. We don’t know where his biased lays, and it’s not evident on this forum. Yes EA has him part of their community day events, why doesn’t 2K?
Where are the 2K community events at? What about 2K news? Every time 2K has released something, Pasta has been there to release it. So once again, how is Pasta an EA guy?
And if Pasta is an EA guy in your books, what are you doing on this site if your a 2K guy? Shouldn’t you be in the 2K boards? Must mean your a EA guy right? See how dumb that sounds? Just a dumb as these accusations.

its because after reading this post its clear that 2k pays attention to detail and presentation… unlike the hype machine EA which adds like 3 new features and hypes them up in a game… I’m not a 2k fanboy im just a disgruntled EA fan that is sick and tired of Madden, if 2k was allowed to make NFL games i gaurantee that they would have refs and a sideline crew along with every jersey combination and tatoos for players. Also 2k would have throwing (like in AP football) and running styles so brandon jacobs doesnt run EXACTLY like reggie bush. Its just 2ks attention to GAMEPLAY that upsets us when we hear that EA has the exclusive NFL license because madden hasnt stepped up since 2ks been out of the picture,

Why all the mystery? Seems the commercial Garnett is shooting is for a secret new mode in NBA 2K9, the same game that also features KG on its cover.
“It’s a reverse fantasy league,” Garnett explains. Seems KG, Derrick Rose, Monta Ellis and a few other NBA stars are going to draft online gamers to see whose team can accumulate the best 2K9 stats and the commercial Garnett is shooting shows some of his real-life best friends from what he calls his Official Block Family begging to be on his squad.
Only thing is, if they are going to air the footage I saw, it’s going to sound like “Beep, beep, beep. No you can’t be on my beeping team you bleepity bleep.”
Let’s just say, Garnett and his friends had a great time filming the ad.
