NBA 2K9 Reverse Fantasy League

More details are now known on what is being referred to as the Reverse Fantasy League for NBA 2K9. Registration for this doesn’t begin until release day October 7th. Kevin Garnett, Steve Nash, Greg Oden, Chauncey Billups, Carlos Boozer, Andre Iguodala, Monta Ellis, and Derek Rose will select their own fantasy team of NBA 2K9 gamers to compete on their behalf. You can check out the official website here.

Users receive a score based on the stats of each game (required to be five minute quarters against random opponents). It states that each user must play one full game a month to participate. Points, rebounds, and assists will net you one point while a steal and a block will net you two. On the other end committing a foul will subtract a point and each turnover will deduct two. The total is then divided by the minutes played for an average.

At this point I’m wondering if there will be an incentive to playing more and more games. If not then someone could have a great first game then decide to sit out the rest of the month which to me would defeat the purpose. It looks like people who are selected to one of the player’s teams must play 300 minutes worth in order to qualify for participating in the playoffs but that doesn’t necessarily explain whether there is incentive to play a lot as a free agent trying to get selected for a team.

One thing I do like is that it appears this isn’t based on winning the games but rather putting up the stats. Why this could be good is that it does give a reason to not disconnect or quit and to play games through even if on the losing end. Disconnecting after halftime will apparently result in loss of stats which will hurt a user’s average. Even if someone is losing they could produce better stats in the remainder of the game which would benefit them.

What are your thoughts on this? I find the idea of it to be pretty intriguing however my concern is that things of this nature have limitations and don’t include everyone. While that makes it more exciting for people who are really good it can be discouraging for those who are just playing for fun to know that they’ll probably never have that same opportunity to enjoy this aspect of the game. At the very least though this should be something interesting to follow.

Ratings Up*
WR Brandon Lloyd – Bears – 75 to 78 – Has been the #1 receiver on the Bears on what is a surprising passing game.
DT Dusty Dvoracek – Bears – 77 to 80 – Has 8 solo tackles and 9 total tackles through 3 games, Tommie Harris has 3 tackles.
QB Carson Palmer – Bengals – 94 to 95 – Something didn’t feel right about this, and Carson proved it. Played very well against a good Giants defense despite a busted nose and minimal pass blocking.
LB Alex Hall – Browns – 61 to 68 – Created several QB pressures with a sack in Week 3.
LT Donald Penn – Bucs – 76 to 80 – Has been a solid starter for the Bucs for a year now.
QB Brian Griese – Bucs – 77 to 78 – Threw for over 400 yards in a wild game vs. the Bears.
WR Antonio Bryant – Bucs – 77 to 79 – Had a 10 catch 138 yard game in Week 3 vs. the Bears.
DE Turk McBride – Chiefs – 75 to 78 – Has played better this year racking up 12 tackles and 3 tackles for loss.
HB Felix Jones – Cowboys – 81 to 82 – Looks just as fast on grass as he does on carpet. Up to 97 speed.
LB Tim Dobbins – Chargers – 65 to 73 – Is now in the rotation at MLB after being a star on special teams for several seasons.
G Ike Ndukwe – Dolphins – 75 to 79 – Worked well with the rest of the Dolphins O-line on Ronnie’s big day.
DE John Abraham – Falcons – 92 to 93 – Leads the NFL with 6 sacks. Beat up on Jeff Backus and a rookie LT in KC.
G Harvey Dahl – Falcons – 76 to 79 – Who? The starting RG in Atlanta paving the way for the Burner Turner.
G Justin Blalock – Falcons – 77 to 79 – Might be finding his niche after struggling badly last year, especially in pass protection.
G Uche Nwaneri – Jaguars – 72 to 74 – Now starting at LG for the Jags, the Jags ran wild in week 3 against an undersized Colts front.
G Daryn Colledge – Packers – 77 to 79 – Working well with an injured interior of the Packers offensive line.
WR Greg Jennings – Packers – 93 to 94 – Superstar in the making. Him and Aaron Rodgers will be a part of a lot of big plays.
DE Kalimba Edwards – Raiders – 76 to 79 – Got the better of Pro Bowler LT Jason Peters on pass rushing situations in Week 3.
HB Michael Bush – Raiders – 79 to 80 – Looks all the way back from injuries. Part of a 3 headed monster for the Raiders at running back.
FS Jim Leonhard – Ravens – 78 to 79 – Played a great game, including several great kick returns, filling in for injured Dawan Landry.
T Zach Strief – Saints – 65 to 69 – Filled in for LT Jamaal Brown vs. the Broncos in a wild shoot out vs. the Broncos. Brees threw 48 times.
CB Bryant McFadden – Steelers – 85 to 86 – Played very well last season as the nickel corner and has filled in for injured Deshea Townsend to the tune of 2 INT’s and 5 pass breakups.
HB Steve Slaton – Texans – 77 to 79 – Busted a 50 yard run vs. the Titans on his 116 yard and a TD day in week 3. His role as a major part of the offense seems secure.
*Few minor ratings changes not noted due to time

Ratings Down
WR Devin Hester – Bears – 81 to 79 – Has caught 2 balls for 13 yards. Not a part of the offense and seems to only be a special teamer.
LT Levi Jones – Bengals – 88 to 87 – Was dominated by Kiwanuka in week 3.
WR Darrell Jackson – Broncos – 83 to 81 – Has slid down the Broncos depth chart, all those passing yards and he is not involved.
QB Derek Anderson – Browns – 87 to 85 – Might not be all the way back. Looks to have a couple starts left on a Browns team heading for a losing record.
LB Kamerion Wimbley – Browns – 88 to 87 – Only had 5 sacks last year rushing the passer, this year he has done nothing.
QB Jeff Garcia – Bucs – 89 to 87 – His benching might be more personal, but only an injury or a couple terrible performances will see him back as the starter.
CB Ronde Barber – Bucs – 92 to 91 – Has lost a step, got picked on last week vs. the Bears.
WR Joey Galloway – Bucs – 87 to 86 – Has lost a step, injured a ton and looks disinterested.
LG Brian Waters – Chiefs – 91 to 87 – Bad timing he goes down 4 points after the Chiefs best running game in a while, but he is near the end.
S Bob Sanders – Colts – 99 to 98 – Loses his 99 cause he can’t stay on the field. Still not a bigger difference maker on the defensive side of the ball.
CB Adam Jones – Cowboys – 86 to 83 – Looks like a player that has been out of the league for a while. Would have thought always trying to cover TO would have helped more.
DE Jamaal Anderson – Falcons – 83 to 81 – Still waiting on his first career sack after being a top 10 pick a year ago.
TE Vernon Davis – 49ers – 87 to 85 – A lot of people saw him catching more than 4 passes in his first 3 games, big disappointment.
DE Reggie Hayward – Jaguars – 86 to 83 – Had 27.5 sacks over a 3 year span, since then has 4.5 over 3 years including a year out injured.
WR Dennis Northcutt – Jaguars – 81 to 79 – Hasn’t done too much on a Jags passing attack that was missing WR Jerry Porter and the invisible Reggie Williams. Matt Jones has stepped up.
CB Al Harris – Packers – 93 to 92 – Before his spleen was lacerated, looked slow vs. Detroit. Was underrated for a long time and he might be getting old now as people know his name.
T Chad Clifton – Packers – 95 to 94 – Got beat up by DeMarcus Ware which shouldn’t be a story, but that wouldn’t have happened a couple years ago.
T Mark Tauscher – Packers – 94 to 93 – Commits too many penalties and looked a little old vs. Dallas.
WR Randy Moss – Patriots – 99 to 98 – Gave a pathetic effort in week 3 whether not going up for an underthrown duck or his blocking. Looks unhappy and won’t be the same threat without the Brady deep ball.
CB Tye Hill – Rams – 86 to 81 – Just got his starting job back after the release of CB Fakhir Brown. This was supposed to be his big year but hasn’t turned out that way.
DT La’Roi Glover – Rams – 84 to 82 – Just benched on the Rams defensive line, that says it all.
QB Marc Bulger – Rams – 89 to 88 – Just benched for Trent Green, will have his job back in 2 weeks whether due to injury or injury.
S Corey Chavous – Rams – 82 to 79 – Has been fading for a long time, one of the only secondary’s he could start in.
HB Ray Rice – Ravens – 80 to 78 – This guy hasn’t been as good as advertised, Willis and McClain seem to have the running game under control.
DE Jason Taylor – Redskins – 98 to 97 – Is injured and hasn’t made the overwhelming difference some thought he may. Now he is injured.
DT Brian Young – Saints – 85 to 82 – Long time overdue. High effort player and can’t get off blocks anymore.
LT Marvel Smith – Steelers – 88 to 87 – Big Ben took a beating last week vs. Philly.
TE Alge Crumpler – Titans – 86 to 83 – Bo Scaife has double the catches and double the yards of Alge.

Injuries
C Tom Nalen – Broncos - IR
LB Dan Connor – Panthers - IR

DOO DUE, if you don't like his angle then why are you here? Why comment??? If he is given previews and events from EA and absolutely natta from 2K, he should keep it to himself or something? 2K is to blame, not Pasta. 2K hasn't really fallen off so much (except NBA2K), it's just that EA has stepped their game up considerably..................
• J-Claw
Gross. Any word on the demo?
Well 2K Ron said it would be out this week which it isn't going to be. Hes lied about things in the past so no surprise. Anyway now he says that it doesnt matter when the demo comes cause they are so much better than the competition. Oh ok thanks that helps. What a jackass.
• doo due
Did you even read his review on facebreaker?... he didnt really like it at all, yes he may be a little bias towards EA but wouldnt you be if they gave you all this information on a game?... he just releases the information provided to him and his impressions of a game if he gets it early (which is usually an EA game cause there the HYPE machine)...
How do you know this... that he gets games from EA first, have you looked at this site?

This is a quote that I will never forgive this guy for>
I’ve been more excited in general with gaming over the past days than I have in a long time. First came GTA IV but that was even topped by Boom Blox.

Boom Blox is better and topped GTA 4 one of the highest selling games in the history of gaming that just happens to be a Take two game... Blox is EA (and have you ever played Boom Blox or own it?)

I skim through this site and shake my head... And that NBA Live Demo I wont even comment on it... Good games are good games no matter the company (I play NCAA 09 religiously) so I like EA but I buy 2k games also. The Reverse Fantasy thingy sounds interesting, im sure he will bash it in order to talk about NBA OTP crap LMAO... That is the most terrible feature in a game period, 5 gunning b ball dudes (10 total), disaster
CHEESE!

In all seriousness, this is an intersting idea, that will be loved by cheesers young and old. Real sim type players won't even bother.

It's going to kill OTP with 2K9 though, because you're going to have everyone going after their own stats to get "drafted", not to play and have fun.
Your 100% right! True sim players like myself don't care about these gimicky features. If anyone is comparing Live's OTP feature to this feature & using this as the determining factor in purchasing Live or 2K isn't a true baller anyway. It's all about gameplay & franchise with me. Online features are way overrated. No knock to you casual fans though but true sim ballers will understand.
Hey pasta, I know its off subject but I was wondering if you caught any floating news about the upcoming baseball games....is 2K still under contract or what? I really hope not with EA throwing out awsome games I would love to see another MVP like game.....Thanks
Well other than MLB 2K moving to Visual Concepts nothing else is known. That is an encouraging thing though. But I doubt we'll hear much if anything else until possibly early January. Maybe something like the cover athlete before then but I wouldn't expect much of anything substantial.

Last year it was early-mid December before starting to get details about 2K or The Show.

I don't believe this applies to their Team-Up mode, just standard games.

Personally I think their Team 2K promotes cheesing more than this does. Regardless some people are going to cheese promotion included or not. I find a positive in that people wouldn't want to disconnect if it was going to severly hurt their stats.
• John Doh
I like change and new features... but I'm just not feeling this too much.

i like nba 2k but i hate how 2k treats people. on their forum the mods posted up codes for people to figure out about a big announcement and part of it mentioned the demo, they had to know people would assume it was about a demo coming out today. then the demo doesnt come out today that is frustrating.

I didn't even think about cheesers. A cool prize would be a trip to All-Star weekend, or a chance to meet your Team Owner.
• NELL86
This is the wackest feature i ever heard of in my whole enitre life. Clearly there only going to pick the top people on the leader boards. There not giving no money for winning so this is pointless
• Billy
Absolutely ridiculous! Anybody who believes that these NBA Players are actually going to pick the people are out of touch. they said "OK , you can use my name", they arent actually going to be sitting down and picking these people! Very whack idea!!
• CHEESE!

• JR
Sounds cool for those who will make the cut and will probably be a big hit for them, but this isn't something that will appeal to the base as it's only going to be for a select pool of players.
• JLowe
Ok...Wheres the demo?? Pasta can u confirm a demo out today for xbox 360?? Or do we have to wait another week?
• I think it would be cool if you did not have to register, and you could be drafted just by playing online games, whether those were 1-on-1 or you just stand out as a solid 5-on-5 teammate.

Oh, and the top 20 get a free copy of MLB 2K9. The "MVP" gets that plus two tickets to an NBA game.
• 47
I think this is pretty cool and im glad its not gonna incorporate everyone. Its time we start rewarding gamers for being good at their individual game. Not every feature is designed for every individual. I cant stand all this casual, pick up and play crap.
• James
the thing is the hardcore online gamers will deff enjoy this... and yes it may not appeal to all of the 2k gamers but if it doesnt the other 2k gamers can enjoy the all new revamped association 2.0 which seems 100x's better than what lives offering, on top of that the gameplay for 2k is still far beyond lives (hell 2k8s gameplay is still better than lives)... so 2k is heading in the right direction (even though this feature is not appealing to me, theres so much that could be done with this) and its a deff purchase for me

yes lives "DNA" features seems great but who cares if Kobe favors the right side of the court on on certain day????... what if Melo takes 10 3's in a game does that mean that day i have to deal with him pulling up a truckload of 3's... i could care less, and honestly i could care less about this feature its all about gameplay and franchises for me, and 5v5 is just an added bonus which has me completely hyped for 2k9..... ps3 right here for me whos up for some 5v5, i already have a friend that wants in so i need 3 more!!!
• tnr
