NBA Live 09 Price Reduced?

Amazon has lowered the price of every version of NBA Live 09 by $5. So far Amazon is the only retailer to have done this so it may very well be a promotion that they worked out with EA. If it was a total price reduction Gamestop would probably have made the switch at the same time. Sometimes a lowered price signals that a company isn’t as confident in a game or that they are trying to reach a different type of consumer (such as has been the case with the arcade style titles). Neither of those would apply in this situation as EA has put a lot behind this year’s version of Live.

What this could be is another way to encourage consumers to buy the game new rather than used or renting it. Remember that the Live 365 feature requires a code that comes with the game and that only works once. Anyone picking up a used copy or renting it would need to purchase a code off XBL or PSN (the price has yet to be stated) in order to activate the feature. It would also give a slight leg up on NBA 2K9 and NBA 09: The Inside which are both sitting at the standard $60.

While I doubt the lowered price would change many minds when it comes to which game to purchase it does seem like it could potentially lead to an increase in sales.

Update: NBA 2K9 has received the same drop for all versions. NBA 09: The Inside remains at $60.

Pasta, besides FIBA, what else does Live have over 2k as far as options go? I heard that live has the AllStar weekend stuff and larger rosters. Is this true? I know they both have OTP-like online features but was curious about other “bells/whistles”…………………

Yeah the OTP in Live will be way better than 2Ks especially with the addition of Clubs.

I’d also add in the NBA Academy which I think hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves for how valuable people will find it.

Online leagues would probably be the thing that 2K clearly has the advantage in feature wise.

Outside of those things and what you mentioned the games are on a pretty even level.

You’d get a better discount if you joined Gamefly. Not only is that pretty much the standard “keep it price” but also the longer that you have been a member you get a discount on top of that. Not to mention, $5 coupons every 3 months. I’ve gotten plenty of new releases on the release date and kept it for about $42. And yes you get the case and instruction manual.

Like you said, No one circles the wagons like the buffalo bills. Boy, I havent been this excited since Drew Bledsoe led us to that 2-0 in the 2003, and than everything just fizzled to a mediocre 8-8 season. Something tells me that Trent is the real deal, and will become a franchise qb in a year or two. Finally, years of trying to find a heir apparent the great Jim Kelly, we have a viable contender in Edwards. Don’t forget about the Defense. Ralph actually spent some money on FA’s such as Stroud and Mitchell, and we they have produced in huge way.

Now, Pasta, concerning your comment that the games are equal in every respect except for OTP and Online leaugues, is down right laughable bordering on dishonest. 2K blows away Live in presentation, gameplay by eons, franchise, and crowd atmosphere. This price drop gimmick by EA IS an admission of inferiority of their product as compared to the 2K brand and series, so just admit it already. WE DONT BELIEVE YOU EA YOU NEED MORE PEOPLE!

We were talking about features. Presentation wise obviously 2K has the advantage there. Gameplay is subjective.

It’s supposed to be. The only differences should be in comfort with the controller, larger online base on 360, and achievements on the 360.

Pasta, since you don’t do reviews, when will you get your hands on Live and 2k to give your thoughts? Like I’ve said many times, I’ve been pretty loyal to NBA2K over the years (I don’t even have a fav team) but can’t explain what it is about the Live demo and really think I’m gonna try something new this year. The dribbling controls, Pn’Roll, free-throws, audio(arena sounds/commentary), FIBA, All-Star stuff from EA versus 2K’s unparalleled sig shots, tried & true gameplay, presentation, etc……………….got both on hold but will only end up getting one.

Q: will both games have Ok City accurate unis?
Q: which game will offer more jersey selections???

Well it depends on the shipping. I have Amazon Prime so I get either $3.99 overnight or free 2nd day. Anyone not worrying about getting it right away could get free super saver shipping.

You also have to account for there being no tax charged for most states. That makes up for the shipping.
