NBA Live 09: Bulls @ Heat

This is the first full game I played of NBA Live 09. As such you’ll notice how much I struggle especially on the offensive end. It isn’t until the third quarter of the second game I played that I started to get into a flow offensively. You’ll witness that in the next set of videos which will be Warriors @ Clippers and then especially in the one after that which is Thunder @ Hornets where it all started to come together for me.

I suspect that most people will find there is a curve to learning how to play this year. You can’t just run around to get open shots but you have to run plays or use features such as the Pick and Roll Control…and those take some time to get a feel for. Once you get comfortable with it though it is pretty satisfying. It feels like you really have to earn it every single possession.

With XBL down today I spent time concentrating on putting together videos to go up today and tomorrow. Once XBL returns I’ll be able to upload some screenshots and highlight clips many of which were taken from previous requests. I’m really enjoying the replay editing function for highlights. As far as impressions go I will be saving most of them for an article in the next few days.

The game is played on All-Star difficulty with everything else set at default including using the broadcast camera. Continue on to watch the game as broken down into four segments.

Like I said you guys (a bunch of ya) are picking at the littlest things. I bet you all have 9's and 10's at home waiting for you to get outta work cuz you don't "settle for anything less". C'mon the players look fine in the above shot, as a matter of fact Booth should be MORE skinny! Ripping on crowd animations, asst.coaches and muscle size sounds kinda picky to me..........and borders on metro too,
Just like you said, everyone is different. Just because little things don't matter to you doesn't mean other people shouldn't care about it so why let it bother you? You rip people about complaining about the little things but yet you're complaining about peoples opinions? You can't have it both ways. This is a site for people to give their feedback, if we can't do that then what's the point?
no, I'm complaining about dumb little things that don't matter. Some things like refs & chaingangs in Madden I get...but c'mon some of you guys are gonna complain no matter what EA & 2K does. Some of these hoops whines are hilarious. Will 2k be a better SIM...of course. I think Live will be more fun. I'm not gonna waste time farting around with accesories and crowd animations. I work with whiners all day and then I come here and it's the same thing w/you fools.
Sounds like a personal problem bruh
  • gainin ground yes

    SERIOUS GROUND NO

SN: neva heard da expression FARTIN AROUND where U from root????

I think the vids look pretty good. Live is DEFINITELY making some strides. I'd like to get more into the quickstrike, because I didn't do so well on the demo.

All in all the game seemed fluid. The make percentage was pretty high, though, but that is so far my biggest gripe. I am sure that 2K9 will be safe another year as the better game, but you'd be blind and sutbborn to say that Live is not gaining serious ground.

This dude just has to start some shit.. Stay on topic.

unlike the previous nba lives its good to know that you actually have to run plays and take the best shot available to win games.

I miss Live 95....the old school Live's were a lot of fun....I'll be picking up 2K9 on Oct. 7th....will probably rent Live to give it a chance....I like how they are throwing in some extra things like this Academy feature....I just really can't get into the gameplay and presentation....& presentation does count IMO....Can't wait to Pop bottles on the court at and spray the crowd at the Championship trophy presentation (I'm overexaggerating because I don't even know any details about the "realistic celebration") but it's good to have a change...when you beat a game...it should never be like "WTF?" that's it??"

Looks like they did a good job with Live this year....just not swayed yet....maybe renting it and playing the gameplay in the FINAL build will change my mind...

Yer checkin out dudes...girls do that
  • DaMan
@ rOOt... when a company like EA has all the resources and money why should i expect anything but the best from them? if the players look fine to you thats YOUR opinion not mine. No game is gonna be perfect and if im pointing out a gripe that i have with the game that can be improved upon, whats wrong and in your case ''metro'' about that?
  • tomba
Hey pasta I'm liking the game so far. this years game is so much better its not even funny. i played a bunch of games last night and they all seemed diff enough. you are right about the controls though theres alot of depth to the system that you have to find out about....

plz comment as i would really like to buy nba live this year and not 2k9

    thanks
  • r00tabaga
...and since b-ball is only my 4th favorite sport, I could really care less. It doesn't matter to me who is one, two......but to some of you it really bothers you that someone might have fun playing Live or vice versa. After playing 2K since 9/9/99 I felt like giving Live a chance knowing their struggles over that same span and actually think it plays a fun game of hoops. Is it better? Prolly not. Is it worth a purchase for me............................................who cares! Everyone's different.
  • keep studyin root mayB 1 day YOU will figga out why Live will alwayz B #2
game looks ok.. my only gripe time and time again with this game is that the players look as if they havent eaten in years.
WOW, so many videogame experts on this site! "I hate how they don't show the 3rd assistant coach"......."this game sucks because the crowd...because the tattoo is wrong...because they didn't put a wristband on right...blah, blah, blah"...............I love smart people. I wish I could be more of an expert gamer.

Im in OKC too!! Get nba2k u wont regret it, I promise. Our Thunder is in the game out of the box also..
  • JHEP, NBA Live was always aimed more at arcade/casual gamers. NBA 2k was always aimed at sim. I really dont know why people constantly try to compare the two. Its like apples and oranges. But I say since you are a new comer, you should try Live first then get NBA 2k when you are ready for sim play.
  • @ jheb i'd say LIVE

2K is MORE 4 people dat really kno da sport

Live any1 can pic up & play & score
