Basketball Games Having Rough First Day

It isn’t release day of a sports title lately without major issues becoming the topic of discussion. The NBA games have continued the trend as they struggle to get advertised features operating properly.

With NBA Live 09 the online servers appear to be down causing the much touted NBA Live 365 feature to be inoperable and making online games unable to be played. At the same time people who have already entered in their code for 365 are being prompted to do so again giving a message that the code is already in use. No one should have to spend time on the phone with customer support dealing with a game issue such as an inoperable code so hopefully this is fixed shortly. Once the server recovers everyone who has entered the code previously should be okay as it is linked to your gamertag/PSN name. All I have heard is that they are aware of the problems and working on what was described as being an EA wide server outage.

Update (9PT): It now looks like the Live problems have been resolved. My 365 downloaded without issue just now and there was no prompting for the code.

NBA 2K9 is having problems of its own with online play. Disconnects, lag, and instances of the games freezing are persistent. Also there seems to be a great deal of outrage over the removal of the 2K Camera view as well as the decision to not offer lobby rooms (the same setup as NHL 2K9 had). The 2K Community website which hosts the uploaded screenshots and videos has also crashed and is unavailable.

Update (7PT): The 2K community site has returned.

This is turning in to an unacceptable trend. With EA its quickly becoming common but it looks like their lack of Q&A is seeping in to the guys at 2K.

Just spoke to someone at EA. They said the invalid code issue is because of the server problems and those who already entered their code will be okay, since the code is “married” to your EA gamertag.

Either way, it’s a frustration that no one needs.

its not just live…i had trouble connecting to nhl 09 last night as well as getting onto my online dynasty in NCAA 09…so i think its not the game….just the EA servers….

The connection issues are really a problem with 2K. Dont have live but im sure its due to the high number of people trying to get on. On the bright side 2k is amazing and the graphics are pretty close to flawless. Way harder that 07 but thats gonna change in a day

I’m glad I stopped buying NBA Live

And I’m really glad that I play NBA 2K9 using only the “Nosebleeds” camera view

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings here but I bet this is the first of a string of problems that will occur using this Live 365 DNA feature or whatever. EA has been cursed ever since taking over the NFL liscense.

This is bullsh**, but not entirely surprising. I got the game early yesterday came home, put in my code, everything worked fine. I came home today and was prompted to enter my code, it was saying “already in use” or please enter code again. So I was about 30 seconds away from bringing my copy back and getting 2k9, until I called EA and got the message that they were having an outage. No surprise. I work for one of the leading Telecommunication companies in the country, and this happens all the time, the dreaded……”outage.” I wouldn’t be to worried, I’m sure they will get this resolved, but again, it seems nothing runs smoothly on the first day anymore. Anyways Pasta, I would like to say that this website is awesome. Its basically every sports gamers heaven for information. I would like to thank you, awesome job.

Bummer too because the server issue squashed OTP Club night. We were able to get into the club lobby but it wouldn’t find anyone to connect to for a game. We’ll try again tomorrow night, same time.
