It has been an interesting couple days for the Dallas Cowboys with many of the affects of which about to be seen in Madden 09. Whether each of these situations will be reflected in roster update #8 (which will probably be out by Saturday morning) is still unknown. They are impactful enough that hopefully they did make the cut for this week’s update.
Tony Romo: Out for 4-5 weeks with a broken pinky finger on his throwing hand. This forces the old and immobile Brad Johnson to take over at QB with Brooks Bollinger as the backup. Obviously this is a tremendous downgrade for the Cowboys in Madden.
Pacman Jones: Suspended for “at least” four games, though all indications are that it is likely to go longer. He was a valuable asset in Madden due to his speed, but everyone knew it was only a matter of time until he got in trouble again and lost the right to play in the NFL.
Mat McBriar: Heading to the IR with a foot injury that occurred on the blocked punt that won the Cardinals the game on Sunday. Not a big deal for Madden since a punter is a punter.
Terrance Newman: Is out 4-6 weeks recovering from sports hernia surgery.
Numerous other injuries plague Cowboy players including Felix Jones and Roy Williams (safety). The offensive line may see some ratings downgrades after struggling the last couple weeks as well.
Roy Williams: The big gain of the week for the team comes from the acquisition of WR Roy Williams from the Lions. The Cowboys gave up valuable first, third, and sixth round picks but in terms of Madden it will be extremely difficult for defenses to deal with covering a trio of Williams, Terrell Owens, and Jason Witten.

so because jerry jones signs free agents & makes trades he is trying to buy a championship? that’s called doing your job as a GM. buying a championship is what washington typicaly does year in & year out, acquiring washed up players with huge names like baseball cards. the cowboys sign TO in his prime & one of the top 3 receivers in the league, leonard davis who has atleast 5 more years & is a probowl guard, zach thomas who is a veteran for his leadership, ken hamlin, tank williams a good DT for cheap, pacman jones for free.& now roy williams a needed #2 receiver that’s gonna be in dallas for a long time. fans of every team would love to have an aggressive owner like j.jones, the guy knows football & is willing to do what it takes without sacraficing there future. sohat exactly has j.jones done that’s so bad?

Getting a wide receiver like this can only mean good things. The whole reason he was brought into the team was for T.O to get open more. When you can connect even more passes it helps the running game also. A good example of this is both the Cardinals this year and the Patriots last year. Roy Williams will be in a Wes Welker type role.

So a slower 6′4 reciever is gonna perform like a 5′9 speed demon…..i would love to see that connection(sarcasm if ur too dumb to understand)

KRIS – It just shows the level of intellect that you must have, to not understand I was pointing out having a second wide receiver with high caliber means the main receiver, T.O, will be able to perform like Randy Moss. (Figure of speech_)

first off tank johnson is the mans name(and ur a true cowboys fan…bullshit) and u guys got T.O in his prime….LOL!!!!! i dont call a 32 year old man, in his prime. and zach thomas…..i dont even kno what to say about those bullshit comments. nice try tho using the words “veteran” and “leader” as substitutes for “old” and “crazy”(from all those concussions). that team reminds me of my friends in franchise mode…. picking up all the old players with a high ass overall ratings and paying them whatever they want and trading away all there draft picks for a high rated guys.

The Eagles are garbage they can’t cover teams with one reciever let alone two so don’t think they have a chance against the Cowboys. Second, I promise Roy Williams has a faster 40 time than Wes Welker, don’t say Williams is slow if you don’t know what you are talking about.

Highly doubtful 30 other teams would take him on the team… who is the team that wouldn’t (there are 32 NFL teams)? 32 – 1 (being the cowboys) is 31 not 30. Second Wade Phillips could be a coach on the field also, why don’t you suit him up at linebacker. He may actaully outplay Thomas.

I lived near Dallas for 11 years and I just couldn’t get myself to root for the team. They have no class anymore and haven’t since Tom Landry was unceremoniously dumped.
Losing Pacman just frees up a roster spot for Mike Vick. Really… you know it’s going to happen. The day Vick is free he’ll be signing with the Cow-Thugs. He probably won’t be a QB anymore.. but a a WR, KR or maybe even a DB… but he WILL be a Cow-Thug. Mark my words.
Oh… and sdot… our resident, illiterate PastaThug will be happy.

it doesnt matter if u have a “good” reason. like josh said, he is on zero tolerance and then he just puts himself in these situations. y does he keep going to these places wen everytime he goes there, something happens. u cant be that stupid to not realize “the last few times i’ve been here, i’ve gotten in a lot of trouble. maybe that means i shouldn’t come here anymore.” if ur getting paid millions of dollars to play football and stay out of trouble, u should be able to do that. im not sayin that he should stay in his house anytime hes not playin football but still, have someone with u(obviously not a bodyguard cuz he cant even stay civilized with one of them) but someone. he is just too stupid and something is wrong with his head.

what’s the issue with him? he’s not a defensive liability, yeah he’s at the tail end of his career but he is a value on a team.

your right TO is a hand full, but the guy just wants to win & when they don’t he is like anybody else, you think if you were more involved you would have won. you don’t think jerry rice, michael irvin, marvin harrison, troy brown, felt that way? of course they did. TO’s problem is he speaks his mind, when somebody asks him a question he answers it honestly. but nobody can challenge the guys toughness and ability. and as for a team leader, of course I don’t believe TO is the team leader. tony romo is doing a great job leading this cowboys team, he is definantly the leader of this team on & off the field, he has managed to handle TO without incident. I don’t know if you are aware of it but the cowboys of the 90’s had there share of problems but you just didn’t hear of it as much, with the growth of the internet & 24 hour news & sports, cell phones,& just people paying more attention. jerry jones had the same type of security detail with michael irvin.

my take on pacman:
its not about the money whether you make a $ million or $5 an hour nobody should act the way he does, he’s been givin more chances than anybody else would get. pacman is finished as a cowboy & I believe behind closed doors j.jones pushed for the suspension by the comish, because pacman hasn’t realy produced & the cowboys can get the draft pik they traded back from tennessee.

No biggiefatz.. the Cowboys of the ’90s were trash, too. And trust me, the 24/7 news cycles were just getting started then and we heard about everything. Any drug charge or fight or rape in the sportsworld that happened then (as now), you’d have a 75% chance of getting it right if you said “Cowboys” (Actually now the Bengals are giving the Cow_Thugs a run for their money.). It just makes me ill that a guy like Mike Irvin is in the HOF and the fact that he wore Drew Pearson’s number. The only classy guy on those teams was Emmett Smith. Him I liked.
BUT.. you go back to the Landry years with Staubach, Dorsett, Pearson, Tony Hill, Too Tall Jones, The Manster, Charlie Waters, Cliff Harris, Mel Renfro, Hollywood Henderson… that was a classy team. (OK.. I know Hollywood got in some drug trouble, but he was the exception rather than the rule). I still didn’t “like” them as I rooted for the Rams back then, but I did have a “love-hate” respect for the team.

Biggie_ the thing is… I don’t have ANY blind loyalties when it comes to sports teams. A perfect example would be the Rams. I loved them as a kid and followed them pretty closely. Then, in ‘94-’95 sometime, they traded one of my favorite players (Jerome Bettis) away for the rights to draft that low-life Lawrence Phillips… a guy I had been reading about all season beating his girlfriend, stealing stereos and missing practices in Nebraska. I hated seeing that and actually started rooting AGAINST them. I WANTED to see them lose just to prove a point. Georgia Frontierre (RIP) owned the team then and seemed to take it to heart. They got rid of him and started getting guys with class back on the team… Faulk (another of my all-time faves), Bruce, Holt, Warner… Not only were these players good, but they were good people (and in Bruce/Holt’s case… a rarity in WRs).
So really… if you need an answer, I’m more of a “player fan” than one of any particular team. Even in my video games and fantasy football games I stay away from guys like R. Moss/T.O./Pacman because if I were truly a GM that’s exactly how I’d roll.

October 15, 2008 at 6:14 pm
I just read this wow
Cowboys: Romo changes tune, will play?
THE NEWS
Updating an earlier report, Tony Romo has apparently told the Cowboys that he is willing to play through his broken pinkie finger, according to ESPN. Romo did not practice on Wednesday though he did throw the ball with “good velocity” on the side.
Our View
The big concern with Romo is what happens if he takes a hit to the hand that worsens the injury and causes him to miss more than the four weeks that are currently on the table. Unless Romo returns to full practice on Thursday and Friday we would have a hard time believing he will be on the field this weekend against the Rams.
October 15, 2008 at 6:25 pm
maybe romo should do what that offensive lineman in ncaa did……CUT IT OFF lol

i dont care..no team should ever focus on the future uunless ur like the dolphins, falcons, lions etc… the bowboys are not rebuilding they need talent..dont give me that bull about o corners if u cant trade for one at least sign someone like ty law
i would reather play the rookies we have than a slow veteran like ty law, we already have one old slow corner in anthony henry we dont need two.

the cowboys started the year amazing and on paper had the most talent in the league, but as always happens things have a way of evening out. through injury, guys getting older, change in scheme. this season has been so turbulant for every team. seatle, minnisota, san diego, jacksonville, indianapolis, and new england were all being looked at as the tops in the NFL.

I agree sort of. I wish there was a way to take them out for online play, but at the same time if they take them out we dont have them in our franchises.

All you people saying that it was a stupid trade by the cowboys to get pacman or Roy Williams need to pay closer attention to details. The pacman trade was set up so that if he were to be suspended by the league for whatever reason they would get their 5th round pick back for this year. The Roy Williams trade, yeah they gave up a 1st, 3rd, and 6th pick for him; so what they got Roy Williams as the first round pick in return plus they have a 3rd round pick from clevaland in this years draft for a draft day trade they made. They also have a 6th round pick from the dolphins that they received in the trade for Fason Ferguson and Anthony Fasano. So all in all the cowboys broke even if you want to say that because they also got a 7th round pick in next years draft from the lions also, even though it is a lowely pick some gems come out of that round, just look at Jay Ratliff, the guy is a beast this year.

i dont have blind loyalties i just know how to seperate a players onfield play from off the field antics.
If you say that you like the cowboys through thick and thin, no matter what they do or who they have on the team… that’s the definition of a blind loyalty.
and I can certainly seperate a player’s on-field talent and off-field antics (though a lot of those antics are in the clubhouse or on the sideline). I know TO/Moss/et al are great athletes, but character means a lot to me… in sports and in real life.
