Cowboys About To Experience Massive Changes

It has been an interesting couple days for the Dallas Cowboys with many of the affects of which about to be seen in Madden 09. Whether each of these situations will be reflected in roster update #8 (which will probably be out by Saturday morning) is still unknown. They are impactful enough that hopefully they did make the cut for this week’s update.

Tony Romo: Out for 4-5 weeks with a broken pinky finger on his throwing hand. This forces the old and immobile Brad Johnson to take over at QB with Brooks Bollinger as the backup. Obviously this is a tremendous downgrade for the Cowboys in Madden.

Pacman Jones: Suspended for “at least” four games, though all indications are that it is likely to go longer. He was a valuable asset in Madden due to his speed, but everyone knew it was only a matter of time until he got in trouble again and lost the right to play in the NFL.

Mat McBriar: Heading to the IR with a foot injury that occurred on the blocked punt that won the Cardinals the game on Sunday. Not a big deal for Madden since a punter is a punter.

Terrance Newman: Is out 4-6 weeks recovering from sports hernia surgery.

Numerous other injuries plague Cowboy players including Felix Jones and Roy Williams (safety). The offensive line may see some ratings downgrades after struggling the last couple weeks as well.

Roy Williams: The big gain of the week for the team comes from the acquisition of WR Roy Williams from the Lions. The Cowboys gave up valuable first, third, and sixth round picks but in terms of Madden it will be extremely difficult for defenses to deal with covering a trio of Williams, Terrell Owens, and Jason Witten.

Biggie_ the thing is… I don’t have ANY blind loyalties when it comes to sports teams. A perfect example would be the Rams. I loved them as a kid and followed them pretty closely. Then, in ’94-’95 sometime, they traded one of my favorite players (Jerome Bettis) away for the rights to draft that low-life Lawrence Phillips… a guy I had been reading about all season beating his girlfriend, stealing stereos and missing practices in Nebraska. I hated seeing that and actually started rooting AGAINST them. I WANTED to see them lose just to prove a point. Georgia Frontierre (RIP) owned the team then and seemed to take it to heart. They got rid of him and started getting guys with class back on the team… Faulk (another of my all-time faves), Bruce, Holt, Warner… Not only were these players good, but they were good people (and in Bruce/Holt’s case… a rarity in WRs).

So really… if you need an answer, I’m more of a “player fan” than one of any particular team. Even in my video games and fantasy football games I stay away from guys like R. Moss/T.O./Pacman because if I were truly a GM that’s exactly how I’d roll.

    I just read this wow
Cowboys: Romo changes tune, will play?

    THE NEWS
Updating an earlier report, Tony Romo has apparently told the Cowboys that he is willing to play through his broken pinkie finger, according to ESPN. Romo did not practice on Wednesday though he did throw the ball with “good velocity” on the side.
    Our View
The big concern with Romo is what happens if he takes a hit to the hand that worsens the injury and causes him to miss more than the four weeks that are currently on the table. Unless Romo returns to full practice on Thursday and Friday we would have a hard time believing he will be on the field this weekend against the Rams.

the cowboys started the year amazing and on paper had the most talent in the league, but as always happens things have a way of evening out. through injury, guys getting older, change in scheme. this season has been so turbulant for every team. seatle, minnisota, san diego, jacksonville, indianapolis, and new england were all being looked at as the tops in the NFL.

All you people saying that it was a stupid trade by the cowboys to get pacman or Roy Williams need to pay closer attention to details. The pacman trade was set up so that if he were to be suspended by the league for whatever reason they would get their 5th round pick back for this year. The Roy Williams trade, yeah they gave up a 1st, 3rd, and 6th pick for him; so what they got Roy Williams as the first round pick in return plus they have a 3rd round pick from clevaland in this years draft for a draft day trade they made. They also have a 6th round pick from the dolphins that they received in the trade for Fason Ferguson and Anthony Fasano. So all in all the cowboys broke even if you want to say that because they also got a 7th round pick in next years draft from the lions also, even though it is a lowely pick some gems come out of that round, just look at Jay Ratliff, the guy is a beast this year.

If you say that you like the cowboys through thick and thin, no matter what they do or who they have on the team… that’s the definition of a blind loyalty.

and I can certainly seperate a player’s on-field talent and off-field antics (though a lot of those antics are in the clubhouse or on the sideline). I know TO/Moss/et al are great athletes, but character means a lot to me… in sports and in real life.
