The eighth roster update for Madden 09 is slated to release tomorrow. For those wondering whether the Cowboys would be seeing the drastic changes in this update the answer is only partially. The Roy Williams trade made it in and Mat McBriar went to IR. But no changes were made for Tony Romo or Pacman Jones. Another big name signing from this week that is included in the update is Shaun Alexander joining the Redskins.

Ratings Up
HB Matt Forte – Bears – 82 to 84 – In the top 2 for most impressive rookie running back.
QB Kyle Orton – Bears – 79 to 80 – I’m sure the Bears couldn’t even have even expected Orton to be as poised as he has been at QB.
LB Dhani Jones – Bengals – 81 to 82 – Your NFL leader in tackles after 6 weeks.
CB Leodis McKelvin – Bills – 79 to 80 – 1st corner selected in the draft also stars on special teams in the kick return game.
HB Michael Pittman – Broncos – 81 to 82 – Might not be another back that runs with as much urgency. Was impressive in a start last week vs. the Jags.
K Matt Prater – Broncos – 78 to 82 – This year has drilled 13-14 field goals. Before that he was 1-4 in his career.
LT Ryan Clady – Broncos – 81 to 82 – Committed his first holding penalty vs. Jacksonville, might be the most athletic offensive lineman in the league.
LB Nate Webster – Broncos – 79 to 80 – Was thumping Jags players last week. Starting MLB for the Broncos.
RT Ryan Harris – Broncos – 79 to 81 – Solid pass blocking RT for the Broncos.
HB Earnest Graham – Bucs – 84 to 85 – Averaging 5.6 YPC and lined up at fullback last week due to injuries.
LT Donald Penn – Bucs – 80 to 82 – Has excelled in taking over for Luke Petitgout in Tampa.
DT Gabe Watson – Cardinals – 80 to 82 – Run stuffing DT for the Cardinals.
LT Mike Gandy – Cardinals – 89 to 92 – Underrated left tackle who played a great game vs. DeMarcus Ware. Surrendered 1.5 sacks last season.
DE Bryan Robinson – Cardinals – 74 to 77 – In the rotation at DT and DE in the Cardinals hybrid 3-4 defense.
WR Steve Breaston – Cardinals – 78 to 82 – Showed he has the complete game at WR in the last few weeks picking up the slack for Boldin. Caught the ball better than expected in a crowd.
DE Antonio Smith – Cardinals – 83 to 84 – Not producing the gaudy numbers, but he is a handful at end.
LB Derrick Johnson – Chiefs – 93 to 94 – Starting to come into his own as a future elite NFL linebacker. Playing in KC won’t help, but he is all over the field.
DT Jay Ratliff – Cowboys – 85 to 87 – Trouble maker for offenses in the middle of the Dallas defense. Can line up all over the defensive line and create problems with pressure.
S Courtney Brown – Cowboys – 67 to 69 – Saw time on passing downs the past couple weeks due to injury.
DT Jason Ferguson – Dolphins – 84 to 85 – Offseason acquisition from Dallas has helped sure up the run defense in the middle.
LB Joey Porter – Dolphins – 88 to 89 – Only has 12 solo tackles, but 6.5 of them are sacks and countless other QB pressures.
T Vernon Carey – Dolphins – 87 to 88 – Neutralized Mario Williams every time he has matched up opposite him, extremely impressive showing vs. Houston.
DT Broderick Bunkley – Eagles – 84 to 85 – Beast of a man in the middle for Philly.
S Brian Dawkins – Eagles – 92 to 93 – Has returned to being all over the field at safety after whispers that he had gotten old.
HB Correll Buckhalter – Eagles – 82 to 83 – Showed again last week he is a more than capable running back when called upon.
S Quintin Mikell – Eagles – 85 to 86 – Leads the team in tackles with a pair of INT’s.
CB Brent Grimes – Falcons – 77 to 78 – Has emerged as Atlanta’s best corner after being called up off the practice squad end of last season.
DT Grady Jackson – Falcons – 80 to 82 – The Atlanta run defense was once a gaping hole up the middle, now the run defense is a somewhat respectable 20th.
LT Sam Baker – Falcons – 79 to 80 – Pass blocking left tackle who has the feet and head to be elite.
QB Matt Ryan – Falcons – 83 to 84 – Was extremely impressive firing the ball on a banged up Chicago secondary. Does not look like a rookie QB.
RT Tyson Clabo – Falcons – 78 to 80 – Has stepped in at RT and has neutralized opposing ends.
DE Justin Smith – 49ers – 89 to 90 – Never stops going and has been pressuring the QB quite often. Also has 32 tackles from the end position.
CB Corey Webster – Giants – 86 to 87 – While Aaron Ross was falling all over his self Webster was playing solid man coverage displaying great instincts.
HB Brandon Jacobs – Giants – 89 to 90 – Now 99 trucking with Barber. No back has as much power as Jacobs when he lowers his shoulder in a defender.
CB Rashean Mathis – Jaguars – 95 to 96 – Brandon Marshall had 9 for 98 vs. the Jags, but none of them were vs. Mathis – Mathis locked up Marshall .
S Brian Williams – Jaguars – 87 to 88 – Versatile safety for the Jags. Plays a lot of man coverage and is active in stopping the run.
DT Kris Jenkins – Jets – 93 to 94 – Jets currently sport the #3 rush defense in the NFL at 2.9 YPC. The reason is the middle being contained allowing the LB’s to make plays.
WR Laveranues Coles – Jets – 91 to 92 – Tied with Cotchery at 26 receptions. Leads the team with 328 yards.
WR Jerricho Cotchery – Jets – 90 to 91 – Leads the team with 4 receiving TD’s. Has developed into a very good WR.
CB Dwight Lowery – Jets – 77 to 79 – For my money the best rookie CB so far except for a few hiccups.
WR Randy Moss – Patriots – 98 to 99 – Sorry Randy. Proved over the last couple games that even if the QB can’t get him the ball and his effort is terrible he still can beat anyone deep. Beat the Charger defense deep at least 3 times and the QB couldn’t get him the ball.
DT Kedric Golston – Redskins – 80 to 84 – Has moved into the starting lineup on one of the better defenses in the NFL. #6 rush defense in the NFL.
CB Carlos Rogers – Redskins – 89 to 90 – Is all the way back from a knee injury. An impressive season so far.
LB Jonathan Vilma – Saints – 92 to 93 – Also looks back from a bad knee injury. Displays top notch instincts.
WR Lance Moore – Saints – 79 to 80 – Appears to be a legitimate NFL receiver and not some product of Drew Brees.
QB Drew Brees – Saints – 95 to 96 – Received a boost in arm strength in how the Saints have been airing the ball out the past couple seasons. Does not have the weak arm some suspected from his career in college and his start in San Diego.
DT Craig Terrill – Seahawks – 76 to 78 – Only good thing to say about the Seahawks in Week 6, relentless in trying to get off blocks.
HB Mewelde Moore – Steelers – 78 to 80 – Extremely versatile player in his first year in Pittsburgh. Filled in for Willie Parker and might have to do it a few more weeks.
HB Steve Slaton – Texans – 80 to 82 – Got some more speed after he displayed his burst a few more times vs. Miami.
G Mike Brisiel – Texans – 77 to 78 – Came out of nowhere last year to finish the season at RG, continues to start there and does a nice job run blocking.
T Eric Winston – Texans – 85 to 87 – Locked up Matt Roth and whoever else lined up against him. The Texans gave him a contract extension and it’s easy to see why.
HB Chris Johnson – Titans – 82 to 83 – Recovering in his bye week after not faring as well vs. grown men in Baltimore.
DE Kyle Vanden Bosch – Titans – 93 to 94 – One of those “high motor” guys. Never stops in trying to get to the QB.

Ratings Down
DT Tommie Harris – Bears – 96 to 94 – Bears run defense isn’t what it was, and whether its injuries or what he isn’t either.
WR Earl Bennett – Bears – 76 to 74 – Can’t get on the field in Chicago. Very polished product coming out of college.
HB Chris Perry – Bengals – 81 to 79 – For my money the worst running back so far this year. Averaging 2.6 YPC with 5 fumbles. Bring on Cedric Benson.
G Andrew Whitworth – Bengals – 86 to 84 – Got a nice contract extension and has got lazy maybe. The Bengals can’t run or pass block.
LB Kamerion Wimbley – Browns – 87 to 86 – Has done virtually nothing since his promising rookie year. 6 sacks in his last 21 games is unacceptable for a player whose job is to rush the QB.
LB Willie McGinest – Browns – 85 to 84 – Heard his name once in the Monday night game but this guy is old and shouldn’t be counted on for too much production.
HB Edgerrin James – Cardinals – 91 to 89 – Behind Chris Perry this guy is in the conversation for most unimpressive at HB. Hightower looks twice as quick, James is incredibly slow at this point in his career.
CB Antonio Cromartie – Chargers – 92 to 91 – Still a work in progress in man coverage. Can be beaten easily cause he is so eager to make a big play.
G Kris Dielman – Chargers – 92 to 91 – The famed left side of the Charger line isn’t blowing people off the ball like in years past.
TE Antonio Gates – Chargers – 98 to 97 – Injuries have cost this guy the ability to get open. Takes forever to get going and to change directions.
DT Ron Edwards – Chiefs – 83 to 78 – Completely out of the rotation at DT in the favor of going young in KC. Played pretty well last season.
FS Jarrad Page – Chiefs – 83 to 81 – Habitual tackle whiffer leading to big plays.
LB Donnie Edwards – Chiefs – 92 to 90 – Is banged up and has been out the past few weeks. Not a stretch to say his time in KC is up after this season.
TE Tony Gonzalez – Chiefs – 98 to 97 – We can’t remember how good you are because of the ineptness of the Chiefs passing game.
TE L.J. Smith – Eagles – 85 to 83 – Wants to be more involved in the offense? Difficult when LJ is usually hurt.
CB Chris Houston – Falcons – 78 to 77 – Extremely raw still trying to play man coverage which is supposed to be his strength. Very similar to his speedy predecessor at corner at Arkansas – Ahmad Carroll.
FB Tony Richardson – Jets – 90 to 88 – Thought something was up with Minnesota made no attempt to resign him, appears to be old.
C Dominic Raiola – Lions – 87 to 85 – Part of the giant mess known as the Detroit offensive line.
CB Brian Kelly – Lions – 82 to 80 – Is in and out of the starting rotation in Detroit which says enough. Can’t really be counted on in man coverage.
G Stephen Peterman – Lions – 80 to 77 – Has been out with injury and didn’t do a whole lot when he was in there.
S James Sanders – Patriots – 86 to 83 – Has not been involved at all in pass coverage.
S Michael Huff – Raiders – 87 to 85 – Is apparently a candidate to be benched in Oakland. Has not made any big plays in his time in the NFL.
DT Rocky Bernard – Seahawks – 84 to 83 – Seahawks can’t really stop anyone on the ground or anywhere else for that matter.
CB Kelly Jennings – Seahawks – 87 to 86 – Solid corner who has beaten deep too often this year. Now benched and plays in nickel situations.
QB Charlie Frye – Seahawks – 80 to 77 – His lack of poise was startling for a QB that has been in Seattle for over a year now. Looked bad vs. a so so Green Bay defense.
S Deon Grant – Seahawks – 87 to 85 – Has not been good this year in pass coverage.
S Brian Russell – Seahawks – 86 to 85 – No INT’s on the year and hasn’t teamed up with Deon Grant to be the safeties people expected.
DT Amobi Okoye – Texans – 92 to 89 – Might be in a sophomore slump after big things were expected of him. In and out of the lineup.
C Matt Birk – Vikings – 95 to 93 – The holes aren’t there in the middle for Peterson.
G Anthony Herrera – Vikings – 88 to 87 – Has struggled so far, especially in pass blocking.
RT Ryan Cook – Vikings – 87 to 84 – Has not been playing very well, and looked completely inept vs. Detroit and Jared DeVries.

Injuries
P Mat McBriar – Cowboys – IR
HB Brian Leonard – Rams – IR
S Gerald Alexander – Lions – IR
QB Jon Kitna – Lions – IR
G Marshall Yanda – Ravens – IR
LB Tavares Gooden – Ravens – IR
T Drew Radovich – Vikings – IR

Contracts
WR Roy Williams – Cowboys – 7 years
umm is chris spencer as bad as he is rated coz i havent ever really watched him? 81 seems a bit harsh for a run game that isnt going that bad?
NO hes every one on our line should be at least a 85, Walter should be a 97, and mike Whale a 92. spencer a 85, Womack a 83 and sean locklear a 87

Yeah, I think this update is crap and shows how much EA loves the Patriots. Randy Moss gets 3 catches for 26 yards and goes up in overall rating. In the same game, Antonio Gates has 4 catches for 35 yards, and Vincent Jackson has 5 catches for 134 yards. Both visibly outperformed and outhustled Moss who looked uninspired and lazy out there. And what happens to their ratings? Antonio Gates goes down from a 98 to a 97, and Vincent Jackson stays the same at 89 overall. Plus, they say Randy Moss looked like he beat the Charger’s coverage deep 3 times and his QB couldn’t get him the ball? Then lower Matt Cassel’s rating. Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd were consistently getting deep balls on the Patriots’ secondary and neither of their ratings go up, and neither does their QB Philip Rivers. It’s BS! Get off of the Patriots bandwagon EA!

what im tryin to understand is the saints. i know that we hae lost some close ones but drew brees has been sittin on a smart qb since the game came out, and week in and week out he has great games. plus our d line has shut out some of the best runners in the game and still no attention. i begginin to think that drew brees will break dan marinos record and still not be a smart qb nor rocket arm. by the way is there a website that has the full stats on the roster not just what changed?

Lamarr woodley is the most underrated player in madden – 6.5 sacks, good at coverage and destroys o-lines- but is an 82

can you say idiot to who wrote that he doesnt have 6.5 sacks, if the leader has 6 in the NFL
and the retarded jets fan is oh so wrong the WR are not nearly that good where they deserve a 95 or 97 rating theyre fine where they are at if anything their QB should go up for his 110 qb rating highest in the league

face it no matter what you do theres going to be kids complaining so just let them hate

ALL NFC SOUTH TEAMS DO NOT DESERVE UPGRADES! Super the falcons are 4-2 they havent beat anyone credible, ditto to the panthers and bucs, the saints are in the cellar of a crap division and reggie bush is a 99 on kickoff returns? i keep seeing people ask for upgrades to bush, what do want him to be a 100 on kickoff return cus i know your not talking about his running back stats, he is garbage in between the tackles, though most of it isnt his fault as the oline cant run block, the 3 upgrades i might award are drew brees as he is a top 5 qb, matt ryan who is getting upgrades at the right times, dont kid yourself falcons fans hes a rookie and still needs to develop, and 3rd and most deservingly micheal turner should be AT LEAST A 90, no explanation neccesary; ima skins fan so im livid that horton didnt get any boost after a 9 tackle outing and campbell still hasnt thrown a pic and his accuracy is less than colt brennan, shawn spring is an ELITE corner yet hes rated about as good as eric wright from the browns which is insulting i could keep going but those are my main tweaks for now…

The Broncos deserve a whole lot more love on the O-line. Both of our tackles are at 82 but you know with those ratings most defenders will beat them or you cant run the ball. Clady has not allowed a sack yet in 6 games and our entire line has only allowed one real sack and one statistical sack, not to mention since we throw the ball more than run now. Our sack per play percentage is the lowest in the NFL and wev’e faced SAN DIEGO, OAKLAND, CHIEFS, JAGS BUCS, SAINTS who all have a good or decent pass rush. We also average over 5yds a carry on the run. The love they are showin is too little, not to mention Brandon Marshall is only a 94 and he has beasted everyone to the point were he’s double covered to avoid being ran over or broken for a big one. He should at least be equal to Anquan Boldin 96.

i dont feel that bush needs to be better you can make him great yourself, but brees and the d-line should have a lil help thats all. i see randy get a 99 if thats the case he should be a 99 from last year and for that just make it a smooth 100. but the point is that i would think it should be like the 09 basket ball game where the players have hot game and the ratings reflect, i just think that 6 games in the season that there could be a lil more detail to the players that have stood out this long, brees, and definatley j, campbell, and a d-line that held adrian peterson, and other above average running backs to short yardage games

I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I believe that either we as a gaming community expect too much from next-gen developpers, or we as a gaming community are constantly being let down from next-gen developpers. Fotr example, 10 years ago I do not remember such negativity surrounding Madden games. We had no roster up-dates and no game patches for fixes. Now we do but continue to be unimpressed. I remember back in ‘93 (I believe) when we actually got REAL players names in the game. I thought that was the be all end all. Now, not only do I want to have rosters that reflect the current ones on a weekly basis, but I find myself complaining when the ratings aren’t exactly what I envisioned. I remember having to go and make all the trades manually and free agent signings manually to keep my game current, and I remember actually enjoying doing that and considering myself lucky that the feature was in the game to allow me to do so. Now I’m upset because I can’t price the hotdogs in the owner part of my Franchise. These are only a few of the examples, but you all can see where I’m going with this. Are we just becoming too demanding as a community (and impatient) or have our expectations for next-gen gaming been over promised and under performed by developpers? Or maybe a bit of both?

If people are going to complain about all the ratings from EA, then when you get your rosters adjust them as you see fit. Don’t just complain! If you don’t like it, improve the ratings of the guys you want to improve. If you want teams of all 99 players, then do it!

is anyone able to asctually run on this game i think the only time ive had a run bigger than 30 yds was wen i dropped it down to rookie for a muck around and even then the only reason i made big runs in rookie was coz u break almosty every single tackle not that fack that the players actually blocked now is everyone having the same problem? it was fine on 08 now on 09 its so damm hard

I’m in agreeance with the Bucs needing a few more player upgrades. Bump all the O-line up a notch (not bump up Graham or Dunn), Barret Ruud to a 92-93 (DJ from KC is a 94?), Phillips, TJackson and Gaines Adams. And alot of the backups need a slight bump coz they are coming in and playing like starters – ie: Talib, Piscitelli, Geno Hayes, Hayward.

Other Key position players on the O-side shouldn’t be changed, except maybe AlexSmith who might get an agility boost coz he keeps getting open inside the endzone.

yeah i understand ur not supposed to break a big one on every single play but u should b able to break a big one sometimes, because the blockers cant block it makes it impossible to make any significant runs and ive only ever returned one kick off so far

I’ve been viewing this site 4 a while n I just wanna speak my piece on ratings. Do yall really understand wat tha weekly ratings r here 4? It’s 2 boost players who r playin ova their head, not someone who had a good gm r 2. I suspect n hope that most ppl that complain r teenagers b-cuz a grown man should have a special appreciation for these update if they been playin madden since tha early 90’s like me.If only most of u had to play gms like playaction football n tecmo bowl, then I wonder how much yall would complain. In closing if u got that many issues wit tha gm then go play something else.

First of all, EVERYONE that is bashing the Devs…STOP the crying! You could very well be without ANY roster updates. We ARE getting MORE for our money nowadays than we EVER have! UPDATES EVERY WEEK?!?! STOP CRYING!!!
So what, if the ratings don’t meet our opinions!? EVERY fan has his team rated, at least, a bit better than the game has them. EVERY fan of particular players believe that THOSE players are a “bit” better than their current ratings. I’m guilty of that, as well.
I began this comment with the intent of repeating myself from last week; about how I and MANY other NFL’ers agree that QB J. Campbell & WR S. Moss deserved better and yes, even S C. Horton continues to exemplify the idea of being this years greatest late rounder. However, I caught myself doing exactly what so many of us accuse the Devs of doing; being tunnel visioned & not seeing the REST of the NFL (our teams).
My ‘Skins received a much appreciated boost last week. I should shut up and stop now. Yes, The most obvious were missed except for Horton. But, THEY WERE NOTICED AND ADDRESSED!
There will ALWAYS be a few teams that get lost in the mix or don’t make the deadline for submission. HAVE FAITH, they WILL GET NOTICED….BUCS FANS!!!
SEATTLE got disembowled this week!!! Be thankful that the Redskins, Giants, COWBOYS, Panthers and others that suffered losses to lesser teams DIDN’T get the same treatment.
Lastly, ENOUGH about WR L. COLES!! He’s NOT even the best WR on his OWN team!!! He certainly doesn’t deserve a 97!!! WR R. MOSS??? Forget it. He’ll be supremely rated even after he’s deep six. You simply cannot penalize a player’s rating due to his attitude or work ethic. He doesn’t have to SMILE while he does his job. There are multitudes of players in the league with STELLAR work ethic because they are TRYING to reach his status but, disappointingly, 90%+ never will. And…I’m NOT a R. MOSS fan!!!
To the DEVS: THANK YOU EVER SOOOO MUCH FOR GIVING US A LITTLE MORE TO LOOK FOWARD TO EVERY WEEK. YOUR WORK “IS” NOTICED AND APPRECIATED.

I hear ya!!! I’m an “old dog” as well (43) in the US ARMY (so, don’t EVEN crack a “get a life” on me). I recall the Tecmo Days!! I remember the J. Montana Sports Talk Football days, I remember the first MADDEN that allowed you to TRAIN players…and YES, when we finally got the NAMES of the players…then the COACHES…then came Comercial Product Placement…model stadiums…create a team…2K’s game presentation…on and on and on…these games have continued to improve! Now, we’re getting REALTIME (almost) player ratings! Game fixes through patch updates!! Hell, COUNTLESS websites for deeper involvement. Agreed, the “big kids” DO understand.

man you guys just don’t get it. ever since EA got the NFL license, they just don’t care anymore. they have no competition. 2kSports’ ESPN NFL 2k5 was the best football game made to date. Maybe not the best graphics because it is not a new gen. But by far the most realistic football game ever made. And it scared the shit out of EA. So instead of taking measures to make a better game, they just bought out the contract so 2KSports couldn’t make any more. With that done, EA releases these poor excuses for football games, knowing we have to buy it because there’s NOTHING ELSE! That’s why we haven’t seen a good football game from any maker since 2006. And say if they FINALLY made Madden without the cheese and more realistic, which we all know they are fully capable of if 2K could do it on the original xbox system, they’re afraid we won’t buy the next madden that comes out a year later. They know if they don’t bother fixing their flaws, we’ll buy the next one HOPING that they did, encouraging their laziness. So we see the same flawed game recycled over year after year. So everyone can bitch and cry and ask, “When are they gonna fix this and that? We know they can! IT’s so easy!” We all know they won’t and never will. At least until their contract with the NFL is up and 2k is allowed to use the players again. Competition drives people to do their best. And EA has made sure they had no competition. So don’t expect to see a good football game until the license is over in 2012 from either EA or 2k.

and how many people are sick and tired of listening to chris collinsworth?
    i know i am
Are you KIDDING?!?! I’m NOT a Bengals fan nor, am I Chris Collinsworth but, he’s the ONLY actual commentator the game has had since (harps & angels sing) Pat Summerall & John Madden that, sounds realistic. He sounds EXACTLY like he does on gameday. He sounds EXACTLY how he did on HBO’s “Inside The NFL”. Yes, he IS a smartass in his backhanded version of sarcastic delivery sometimes but that only stings if he’s talking about YOUR team at the time. The guy IS intelligent as a commentator as he was a WR. (yes, I’m THAT old) Much more so than, your numerous “color” commentators. Hell, that’s actually what John Madden is…essentially. If you don’t LIKE the guy or you’re tired of what you call “Mr. StateTheObvious”. Blame the script writers for the lack of variety in situational trigger script. Chris Collinsworth comes off smooth and unrehearsed. Now, that OTHER cat with him??? He’s the one that needs to go. He sounds like he’s reading the ingredients on a box of Rasin Bran! No offense to him. He’s simply not a natural. I loathe his awkward inflection of the “In The Game” lines.
If you want commentary that blends with the game like an exceptional scotch, ask EA to engineer a bi-lateral contract to re-employ “THE” team. Get Pat Summerall & John Madden back together under the mics of the sound room and reunite GREATNESS! Hell, we ALL want that on TV!!! But, since John has finally shown us last week, that his age has caught up with his comfort/schedule demmands… All I’m saying is, NO TEAM does it like John & Pat. We know Pat needs something to do so, Get John to relax and retire from the rigors of roadtripping the NFL and return to his own namesaked football franchise that has made him BIGGER than his own enshrinement into the Hall of Fame. He’ll have MORE downtime and yet still keep his “name” active to the masses. Best of all, he’ll get to go out with the wingman that had his back when he began his rise to “ICON” status. I say, return the favor to Pat, keep the mini-bar stocked and cheers! Because, we won’t mind if Pat wants to sauce it up for us. LOL

I don’t understand why there is a LS position in special teams, but not in the actual depth chart. LS get paid lots of money to do what they do, and many aren’t even in the games.

Up front, I want to apologize for the length of this response so, I cut some of the quote. This issue simply touches a nerve. Also, We MUST realize that this a “ROSTER” thread. Not a product development thread.
Quite the contrary my friend. “We” are MANY! And, We do indeed understand. As you, I, and many of our other colleagues in distress since the “contractual agreement” between EA & the NFL, we have resorted to finding silver linings in every NFL game released since the demise of the 2K series. What we have to remember, however, is that the NFL is “almost” as much to blame for our grievances as EA. There wouldn’t BE a contract of exclusivity if: 1. The NFL didn’t buy into EA’s promises of supremecy. 2. 2K had the “rocks” to pony up the cash to compete with the EA bid on said contract proposal. (which we all know, EA has deeper pockets) and, 2K knew it was futile to get into a bidding war with EA.
The move WAS deceitful to EVERY NFL gamer that was a faithful fan of either franchise or both franchises (like myself)
Was it honorable?? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Was it good business? YES! Was it good consumer realations? Again, NO!
If you were strictly a Madden gamer, you benefited from the industry pressure to have more & better content in the game that the 2K competition with EA provided. Thus, the same if you were strictly a 2K gamer. When 2K presented it’s final product to the public for $20, the much heralded 2K5 contained sooo much depth, atmosphere, commentary, & presentation that was impeccably, as NFL accurate as any game to date!! (I still own 2 copies) This did, as you stated, scare EA into recognizing the “David vs. Goliath” probability. Hence, they did what they did. So, for now, we have to continue to find the “Silver Lining” in every game that EA produces. WHY? Because FIRST & FOREMOST we are NFL FOOTBALL fans. Not EA fans. We will go buy what we must to pacify that addiction.
The 2K franchise, on the other hand, had 4 years to develop a game that would continue it’s impending glory and dominance & just sit on it waiting to just plug in the players and various details and pull the trigger when or IF the NFL rights contract ever dissolved. Instead, they pushed out a piece of tripe that even MYSELF couldn’t stomach. It didn’t even improve upon it’s graphics to say much off. I killed it’s replay value by not offering any form of FRANCHIS mode. So, when the questioned NFL rights contract comes to it’s expiration, what did the 2K boys offer for reference to how fomidable their ability to effectively push the NFL market??? Not alot if you look back at 2K8. Don’t get me wrong, I want the 2K5 team to comeback with a bang! I want that same halftime, end of game, weekly updates that were precise with the actual happenings in your games. EVERYTHING! But, they haven’t proved that they are indeed ready for it. I hope I’m wrong.
As for the intentionally leaving things out to lure the buyer in for next year? I’m not as convinced that it’s sooo “Darth Vadar” as it’s deadlines vs. budget vs. gamer feedback vs. …yes, pressure to do so. Realistically, we can’t expect EA or even 2K (should they return to the sport) to spend all year patching the hell out of the current game all the way to the SUPER BOWL. Honestly, you’d pretty much have next years game. They must dedicate efforts and resources toward attempting a better product & including ALL of these gripes & complaints from the gamers to the best of their abilities. 2K gamers UNITE!! However, remember, you’re a NFL’er FIRST & FOREMOST. Besides, who says that EA won’t just purchas 2K and let them do their thing. That way they’ll profit from BOTH products! Just believe they won’t allow that $20 thing again. LOL

    RedskinsGM2B,

You’re absolutely right on so many levels. I too own multiple copies of NFL 2k5. I tried updating the rosters as the years went by but it was just too much to deal with. So I fell to the “Dark Side” of EA’s Madden series. I too thought that with EA’s deep pockets, they should just hire the designers of 2k’s football series and have them help design the new Maddens. Then, true football fans would have something to rave about again. Don’t get me wrong. Madden is a fine video game. But to me, the best way to describe it is that it’s more like an arcade type of sports game. Fun with your friends, competing with others, and occasional type football fans. But it lacks the realism of true football simulators that real NFL fans have been longing for. And like you said, 2k and the NFL is as every bit responsible for the blame. But it is what it is. And if 2k were to finally be able to make another football game (other than All-Pro.. it was a nice try), it would DEFINITELY not be $20 LOL. Hell, I’d pay $70 for it!

Wow EA and pasta are way off base with this one. Yes the Bengals can run or pass block. but it is not because of this man. If the Bengals have a pro-bowler this season, it will be Whitworth. He has been the most consistant player the Bengals have had the last 2 seasons. this year he has gone against players such as… Haloti Ngata, Albert Haynesworth, Justin tuck, Shaun rogers, Jay Ratliff, Kris Jenkins.
The Defensive line coach for the Giants said that Whitworth gave Justin Tuck fitrs all game and he hasnt seen anybody block him the way Whitworth did. and that he has his vote for the Pro Bowl

Hello? You fucking idiots! Obviously they haven’t seen a single damn Bills game this year. These guys are stupid! They are soooooo afraid to make changes to their preseason rankings. You have to realize that Trent is a second year QB and that he was bound to improve.

I am sick and tired!!!! The guy went 25-30 last game. That’s like an 83% completion rating.

    Why are the Bills 5-1?????

    Maybe it’s thier QB play.

In addition Mitchell needs to be upgraded as well. He is one hell of a play maker on D. sack FF and INT last game!!!

Get with the program and stop relying on preseason rankings.
