Ratings up
CB Corey Graham – Bears – 71 to 75 – Has climbed up the depth chart due to the banged up Chicago secondary. Bears sport a nice secondary once everyone is back.
QB Trent Edwards – Bills – 82 to 83 – Was impeccable vs. the Charger secondary in a win in week 7.
RT Langston Walker – Bills – 86 to 88 – Due to his solid blocking on the right side Edwards was untouched vs. San Diego.
TE Robert Royal – Bills – 81 to 83 – Check down option for Edwards. Tied for third on the team in receptions with 17.
CB Jabari Greer – Bills – 83 to 84 – Has been doing a fantastic job this season in coverage. His Madden rating has come a long way since beginning of last year.
LT Ryan Clady – Broncos – 82 to 84 – Extremely athletic left tackle for the Broncos. The sky is the limit for this guy.
CB Brandon McDonald – Browns – 82 to 83 – Has been doing a solid job in coverage considering the lack of pass rush in Cleveland.
CB Aqib Talib – Bucs – 80 to 81 – Now has 3 INT’s in his rookie year out of Kansas. Ball hawk.
WR Antonio Bryant – Bucs – 79 to 81 – Might have taken a starting WR spot in Tampa with his play this season.
WR Malcolm Floyd – Chargers – 73 to 74 – With Chambers and Buster Davis out has stepped up the past two weeks and might have cemented a spot in the rotation.
QB Chad Pennington – Dolphins – 84 to 85 – Continues to make smart decisions even in a tough loss to the Ravens. Was pick sixed in on a nice play by Suggs.
LB Joey Porter – Dolphins – 89 to 90 – Continues to rack up sacks and QB pressures for the Dolphins.
S Yeremiah Bell – Dolphins – 84 to 86 – The best player in the Miami secondary. Had a crucial strip on McGahee that the Dolphins couldn’t cash in on.
LT Sam Baker – Falcons – 80 to 83 – Missed time with a concussion earlier in the season but when in the lineup has given up 1 sack.
WR Josh Morgan – 49ers – 73 to 75 – Besides inexplicably kicking the ball through the back of the endzone for a safety; has earned a starting job due to his playmaking ability.
CB Tramon Williams – Packers – 78 to 81 – Showed he is a legitimate corner in the league by doing an excellent job on whatever Colts receiver he was on in week 7, mostly Anthony Gonzalez.
CB Will Blackmon – Packers – 73 to 77 – Along with Williams stepped up in the secondary vs. the Colts. Basically an athlete coming out of college has developed into a nickel/dime corner.
CB Charles Woodson – Packers – 92 to 93 – With the exception of losing his footing too often, has maybe displayed better instincts than any corner on his INT’s. There won’t be a better free safety if he ever makes the transition.
FS Nick Collins – Packers – 87 to 88 – Returned a gift wrapped pick for another TD Sunday vs. the Colts. Is around the ball more which could not be said about him in previous years.
QB Jake Delhomme – Panthers – 86 to 87 – Continued his sharp passing with Steve Smith back in the lineup.
HB Sammy Morris – Patriots – 81 to 83 – Ran all over the Broncos in a sharp first half on Monday night. Looks to be the primary ball carrier with the injury to Maroney.
QB Matt Cassell – Patriots – 76 to 77 – Had a nice game vs. the Broncos secondary on Monday night.
DE Trevor Scott – Raiders – 69 to 71 – Made a nice inside move vs. the Jets RT (Damien Woody) on one of his two sacks on the day.
LB Ricky Brown – Raiders – 75 to 77 – The other LB that starts for the Raiders. Had 8 tackles in week 7.
C Nick Leckey – Rams – 72 to 76 – Has started every game for the Rams this season taking over for former starter Brett Romberg.
WR Donnie Avery – Rams – 76 to 78 – Looked like a true deep ball threat vs. the Cowboys on Sunday including a near miss TD on a bomb from Bulger.
LB Ray Lewis – Ravens – 94 to 95 – Is playing arguably his best season. Looks better playing behind Justin Bannan at nose tackle.
CB Shawn Springs – Redskins – 88 to 90 – Is hurt now. Before he got hurt he was playing the teams #1 WR and playing tight coverage.
S Chris Horton – Redskins – 78 to 80 – His first game looked like a fluke when he had 2 INT’s handed to him, but he looks like a keeper due to his ability to be around the ball.
CB Carlos Rogers – Redskins – 90 to 91 – Looks all the way back from a season ending injury a year ago. He has been very sharp the past couple weeks in particular.
LB James Harrison – Steelers – 93 to 94 – Trails Ware by 0.5 sacks for the leader in sacks. A beast. Still needs to perform better against elite tackles.
LB LaMarr Woodley – Steelers – 84 to 86 – Has 7.5 sacks in his first season starting. Pairs with Harrison to form one of the top OLB combo’s.
HB Mewelde Moore – Steelers – 80 to 81 – Feasted on Cincy in the second half in a route. Has earned some carries whenever Parker comes back.
G Darnell Stapleton – Steelers – 72 to 76 – Inserted into the starting lineup after a season ending injury to the starter.
WR Santonio Holmes – Steelers – 86 to 87 – Blew past a what’s his name? on Cincy for his first TD on the season in week 7.
HB Steve Slaton – Texans – 82 to 83 – Averaging close to 5.0 YPC with 4 TD’s and has 0 fumbles which was a problem in college and early in camp.
HB Chris Johnson – Titans – 83 to 85 – Averaging 5.3 YPC with 3 TD’s. Carved up KC for 168 yards in week 7.
LG Eugene Amano – Titans – 80 to 84 – First year as a starter lining up at LG for Tennessee.

Ratings Down
LT Levi Jones – Bengals – 87 to 85 – Got beat a couple more times for sacks in week 7.
DE Luis Castillo – Chargers – 93 to 91 – A lot of good things have been said about this guy. Not translating to the football field this season.
LT Flozell Adams – Cowboys – 94 to 93 – Has had a heck of a time with two past their prime pass rushers the past two weeks (Bertrand Berry and Leonard Little).
DT Glenn Dorsey – Chiefs – 84 to 80 – Has been invisible and the Chiefs have been getting killed on the ground, especially to the Titans in week 7.
QB J.T. O’Sullivan – 49ers – 79 to 78 – Everyone’s golden boy has 10 INT’s on the season and has fumbled 9 times. Blocking has been bad, but those numbers are not NFL caliber.
CB Aaron Ross – Giants – 87 to 86 – Has been having a tough time staying on his feet and not giving up touchdowns the past couple weeks.
CB Leigh Bodden – Lions – 90 to 89 – Took a beating vs. the Texans and Andre Johnson in man coverage on Sunday.
DT Chuck Darby – Lions – 83 to 81- Has 10 tackles on the season and appears to be getting phased out.
RT Gosder Cherilus – Lions – 77 to 75 – Detroit flip flops this 1st round pick with a punch line (George Foster) at RT.
DE KGB – Packers – 85 to 83 – Continues to fail to impress. Now a bigger part of the rotation which will not help the Packers inability to stop the run.
CB Fred Bennett – Texans – 84 to 83 – Has slid down the depth chart after a nice rookie season. Had tight man coverage on a deep ball to Calvin Johnson though.
LT Bryant McKinnie – Vikings – 96 to 95 – Maybe still getting his feet under him after the suspension but is not looking good, and was whooped by Ogunleye in week 7.
S Darren Sharper – Vikings – 91 to 90 – Is not making plays anymore. Took the worst angle possible on Marty Bookers long TD reception in week 7.

Injuries
LB Keith Rivers – Bengals – IR
LB Boss Bailey – Broncos – IR
QB Brodie Croyle – Chiefs – IR
S Roy Williams – Cowboys – IR
HB Laurence Maroney – Patriots – IR
S Rodney Harrison – Patriots – IR

Contracts
C Eric Heitmann – 49ers – 4 years
I’m gonna try to be as objective as a person can be. I want to HELP this process not COMPLAIN about it. However, after repeatedly ignoring those who truly try to help MORE than their own team…COMPLAINING & BASHING is what the end result is. We know it’s simply a matter of plugging numbers and being “realistically” & CURRENTLY accurate as possible. So, hopefully you’re paying attention.
This may be the weakest update yet! I’m in total agreement with MANY of the posters on here. Some are reaching but, they ARE fans. It’s their DUTY!
    A) Firstly, let go of the “icon” stigma. Yes Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are “icons” however, roster “updates” are to reflect what reality is CURRENTLY. Not what we remember them being like or what we know they CAN do. It’s simply a matter of what the player IS doing or NOT doing. Players that are taken out of the game in the NFL for inury or other reasons should be out of the game on these rosters. List them, but make them unavailable to use! Especially in ANY ONLINE games that are RANKED! For example: Tom Brady WILL NOT BE ON THE ROSTER THIS YEAR! He should NOT be at the disposal of players players when a RANKING is in the balance. If Tony Romo is out 4 weeks…Then he NEEDS to be unavailable for at LEAST 3 of those weeks. (we realize it takes time)
    B) Next, forget how strong a team is in terms of FANS that buy the game. You can’t truly or REALISTICALLY maintain a teams superiour ratings simply because they are in the TOP 3 financially dominant teams in the league nor can you maintain false numbers due to media exposure or should I say, media “saturation”. The ugly numbers of certain teams are the report cards for their current “state of ability”. FANS KNOW THIS! If you can’t/won’t/refuse to penalize a “few” players severely enough to lower the entire Offense or Defense OVR rating, then penalize all starters on that side of the ball -1. It hurts some teams but that’s what being a fan IS! Feeling the UPS & DOWNS! Just like ratings should be. So, reflect this in your updates.
Here are some of the MOST obvious misses. I can’t hit them all in one posting but, if I had a whole week and 4 LCD’s of ESPN & NFL Network in my face…LOL

    1. QB Trent Edwards – I mean, really. No, REALLY. He’s at LEAST 85 if not 86.
    2. Cowboys…you KNEW this was coming. There’s no REAL explanation for the
OVR ratings for MOST of this teams players to remain as they are. It’s just
not fair to the rest of the NFL fans. Shameful, just Shameful. See statement B.
    3. AMEN!! Drop all ratings of players on IR or PUP to 50. Genius! All in favor?!
    See statement A.
    4. RB Clinton Portis – He’s the “Drew Brees” of RB’s currently & HIS team is
WINNING. Why isn’t he rated accordingly? THIS is ALSO one of those that
didn’t start happening yesterday. Shaun Rogers couldn’t stop him. Which
    brings us to…
    5.

Fullbacks! Here is the ONE position that is neglected but is incredibly pivotal
to the success of RB’s in this league. Case in point: FB Lorenzo Neal. Deprive
L.T. of his services and you see the case. FB Mike Sellars is deserving of “+1″.
    6. Other Teams with undeserving & over inflated OVR ratings: S.D., PHI, IND
    7. Chad Johnson – as if this needs clarification; He’s simply dropping balls! He’s
feeling his own mediocrity now and doesn’t have that imposing talent.
    8.

QB Kerry Collins – Here’s a blue collar guy doing a white collar job and getting
no reward for it. YES! He’s FASTER than 40 and makes less mistakes than
the”other” old guy…Kurt Warner who is an 88. Collins should be 84-85. Easy.
    9.

Bills O-Line on the left side is deserving of a small boost.
    10. LOLB Lamarr Woodley is “currently” BEAST & his numbers support 88-89.
    11. RB Mewelde Moore needs 82 maybe 83 if he maintains the following week.
    12. Pittsburgh entire O-Line is ANEMIC! Are you SERIOUS?!
    13. Redskins Interior O-Line has proven to be “above” average. Let’s boost it.
    14. QB Jason Campbell – OK, enough is enough. AWR to make good decisions
that leads to TAC to protect the ball = experience & improvement. NO INT’S!!!
There are alot of QB’s with inflated ratings that are doing worse. Solid 90.
    15. Panthers Secondary is indeed a smothering one that deserves about 1 point
on the CB’s and a special +3 to the FS.
    16. Panthers Right Side O-Line is definitely better than it’s below average
    numbers. LG-81 & LT-82.
    17. Colts WR’S – R. Wayne & M. Harrison both -1 but, A. Gonzalez up +1. Sad yes.
    18. Jet’s WR’S – L. Coles -2 & J. Cotchery +2
    19.

    Giants WR – S. Moss +3
    20. Others: TE O. Daniel +3, Redskins WR S. Moss +3., S C. Horton +2.,
    Bengals QB C. Palmer -1, Colts QB P. Manning -2, Chargers QB P. Rivers-1,
Eagles QB D. McNabb -2, Panthers QB J. Delhome +1, BAL QB J. Flacco +4
    Titans RB’s L. White & C. Johnson +1, Bills RB M. Lynch +2, Browns RB
    J. Lewis -1, Vikings RB A. Peterson -1, Bucs RB’S E. Grahm +2, W. Dunn +1
    21. To address some other comments: 1. WR A. Johnson IS dominant but, his numbers keeps him where he is. 2. Agreed, I think you SHOULD answer the COACHING changes question regarding updates Dude HAS been patient for the past 3 WEEKS. 3.

If Pac Man IS suspended, hence, he SHOULD be made UNAVAILABLE for “ranked” play or otherwise. 4. COWBOYS WR R. Williams should NOT suffer any ratings decrease due to any first week in a new system. Perhaps his awareness until the system is learned but, overall, we should wait to see if his uselessness remains after a few weeks. (that was hard to say being a Redskins fan)

    5. Redskins DE J. Taylor: if he suffered any decrease which would be minimal, it would actually serve as being worthy because in “reality” J. Taylor’s time on the field mad WAS less effective vs. the run. So, he’s become a “specialist” if you will.
    6. YES, the COWBOYS players WOULD & SHOULD suffer decreased ratings “even if it was the COACHING not the talent”.
The players would naturally retain any RAW score ratings such as Speed, Strength, Jump, Acceleration…but, technique attributes would be effected from, yes, COACHING. ie., Awareness, Play Recognition, Man vs. Zone coverage, Pass/Run Block Footwork, Throwing Accuracy, Route Running..yadda yadda.
    7. LS SHOULD be included in the Depth Chart & Roster. If the Pro Bowl does, don’t you think this “video game” should?

Anyway, concerning Pacman Jones, if you remove him from the game for the duration of his suspension, then you should remove all players that get suspended for the duration of their suspension. For instance, Matt Jones was just given a three game suspension. I doubt they will do this, but if Pacman isn’t reinstated after the four week period when the commissioner re-evaluates the suspension, then I would assume he won’t be coming back and remove him from the game.

The precedent it would set to remove him before then isn’t good, because say for instance Larry Johnson was just suspended by his team for allegedly spitting in a woman’s face, would you want Larry Johnson removed in the next update and then put back in the game when his suspension is over? I’m sure people wouldn’t take kindly to not having Larry Johnson available when they’re using the latest roster update.

Does anyone know the reason why certain players that are placed onto injured reserve are released as free agents?

They are released into free agency because EA only allows 55 players in the roster. And even if they are on IR, in madden, they still count towards the roster. So they release them in the game to make room for whoever that team signs to fill the position in real life.
i wish they would just take out Overall ratings from the game

Agreed about the overall ratings, although I think an alternative could be that they put some of the features from NFL Head Coach into Madden, namely the way it changes players overall ratings based on what sort of system you’re running. For instance, certain players may be good mauler type offensive lineman, but would be bad zone blockers. I think Madden is geared more toward a 4-3 defense, so 3-4 defenders are rated as though they were in the 4-3 in terms of overall rating.

They should also fix the IR thing, make rosters 53 man, and add six practice squad players. It would also be nice if they inflated the roster size to 80 for the offseason and had cuts during pre-season.

For all the Dallas Cowboys haters the reason our ratings having dropped is because everyone has performed individually but football is a team sport so you when and lose as a team..U will see a lot of improvement this week with Wade making the calls on defense..you will see the offense against the redskins after the bye..

Quit crying about the damn Cowboys being overrated, I bet half of you are 15 year old whining ass kids. Newman was hurt for the few games he played this year, he had groin surgery immediately after so this is not made up, besides that check last ratings update and look how many Cowboys went DOWN on defense.

You guys are getting out of control with this stuff, so I guess because Wade Phillips and Brian Stewart can’t figure out how to coach up a team then Ellis, Hamlin, and Newman should lose speed and acceleration points right? It’s a freakin video game, you people are spoiled as hell with this stuff already, not long ago you were stuck with the ratings they dished out for that whole year, if you don’t like where Cowboys are ranked change it yourself and save the roster file, then they will suck as much as you want.

Yeah, given that it’s unanimous that Dallas is one of if not the most talented team in the league, and their reasons for losing are intangibles (as far as Madden is concerned) such as playcalling, preparation, chemistry, and drive, you can’t downgrade a player just because the team as a whole is playing poorly.

My stance is firm on this. If you are suspended or IR or PUP or BANISHED for life, YES. They should indeed be “unavailable”. I should clarify my meaning. Obviously, the player is in the game and still on the teams roster AND sucking a teams salary cap dry for no apparent service or performance. LOL You don’t take a player COMPLETELY out of the game for the rest of the season if the episode/issue at hand does not stipulate such a time frame. You simply make him ‘unavailable” for play. Lock him out of selection during his suspension, injury, incarceration, or banishment. But, if he IS indeed out for an entire season then, by ALL MEANS, he is UNAVAILABLE for play for the “entire” season. If he has been banned from the NFL for life, guess what? He’s out of the game. Period. You don’t get to have luxuries or free passes that negate the injury, suspension or death of a players career simply because you NEED that players preferred services or ratings on your team.
Again, the player is only made “unavailable” during the specified time of absence. No more, no less. He’s there. You can stare at him & his stats if you wish. He just won’t be able to play for you or any other team until the player is reinstated to the league, team, or injury healed and cleared for play.
Certainly you’re not implying that the gaming public won’t understand that a player is sidelined due to the very reason that he saw on ESPN?
I agree that we probably won’t see this happen in this game this year. I also agree that if you take out PAC MAN that you’re setting a precedent that would mandate all players unable to make the depth chart, be unable to be selected for play. I don’t think that is price that is too steep to pay or that I/we would regret. I think it’s justice and I think that if it’s happening in the NFL, it should be happening in the game that claims the NFL.

Out of control? Translated: Frightening close to getting our point across to the Devs? LOL
    Again, from above…
    6. YES, the COWBOYS players WOULD & SHOULD suffer decreased ratings “even if it was the COACHING not the talent”. Reason?? Because Coaches, as you are saying yourself, AFFECTS PLAYERS which, AFFECTS GAMES.
The players would naturally retain any RAW score ratings such as Speed, Strength, Jump, Acceleration…but, technique attributes would be effected from, yes, COACHING. ie., Awareness, Play Recognition, Man vs. Zone coverage, Pass/Run Block Footwork, Throwing Accuracy, Route Running, penalty discipline, ..yadda yadda. All of which ARE valid player attributes that DO make up the players OVR rating. If these decrease due to “COACHING”, then they subtract from the overall formula of the rating. Again, we are well aware that the player would retain raw attributes because these are things the players were born with and brought to the table BEFORE being coached. However, it’s just plain simple math y’all. It’s unforgiving and ugly but, it’s a fact. We’re just pushing the “obvious to everyone” but fans of the team that is suffering the loss of stats. Besides, don’t go thinking that the Cowboys are FEARED or nothing and everybody is “just hating on THEM” alone. Don’t be so arrogant. Quite the contrary. I think they suck just fine the way they are. Regardless. They aren’t losing or GONNA lose on the field because of any stats lost in Madden. Madden will simply be a more accurate game for it.

I think you people have Madden mixed up with Live….these roster updates aren’t DNA updates, they’re just random updates that EA makes up (other then the roster transactions). And the roster transactions aren’t accurate either!

I think teams should have a chemistry rating. Each player has a high and a low rating they play at depending on the chemistry of the team. If chemistry is down then ratings go down. If chemistry is up then the ratings follow. If the chemistry is decent then they play in the middle of the high and low…etc.
Right now everybody on the cowboys team would be playing at their lowest rating which would lower the rating of the team overall. Does this make sense?

Anyway…don’t get roster updates confused with the DNA feature Live is using. You would think football would be easier to do then NBA but…EA always takes the difficult route that never makes sense.
Not to disrespect your intent but, I’m quite sure that most of these posters know EXACTLY what the roster updates do and their limitations. I’m aware that the “DNA” thing is cool and new for basketball fans and it may integrate well with the next NFL inception however, simple chemistry is easier achieved with a starting lineup of 5. For us, it’s more like…FAMILY & RELIGION. Besides, we, here on the football side of the house have been receiving roster updates for a few years now and the cat has been outta the bag for a while. This is simply the first year that we’ve received “weekly” updates & (God bless them) our football gamers are “on it like a dog tick” man. They are the driving force that keeps (or attempts to in vain) the update team “aware” of reality, so to speak.

Besides, their rabid, sub-zero, body painting, femor bone wearing, Sow dressing, pirate ship cannon firing, cheese head, Lambeau leaping, Raider Nation hating, America’s FANS!!! It’s their God given DUTY to rant, rave & expect a Super Bowl every flippin’ year of their lives.
I’m not sure how any of what you said is relevant to my post…except for maybe you’re first two sentences. I think you might have gotten a little side tracked with your reply.
