EA Sports has released a new video for NCAA Basketball 09 going over the Set The Tempo feature in the game. This feature looks to be the most significant addition this year and will have a huge impact on how the game plays and in providing the unique feel of college basketball. From all accounts it sounds as though the feature is really going to deliver. Continue on to watch the video.

Looks like a great feature that will make the gamer play to the style of the team for the first time in a basketball game.

Does this take away from your feeling of emptiness about this game?

  • scdb12

Pasta with the release right around the corner is there any word on other modes, like dynasty

How is this really any different from manually setting your tempo/fast break settings in any other hoops game since the year 2000? Iin CH2K8 all you had to do to adjust tempo was to ratchet the on screen tempo/fast break meter down and slow the game down. When you wanted to run fast break you did the same thing.

All this really seems to be is a tempo meter instead of a tembo bar.

No online dynasty, no be a pro, no EASHL type club play, no all authentic arenas and jerseys= no buy.

WTF is up with those player models? There like 95lbs, that looks nasty

signature ea for hyping up their games…………..at least alexguy96 is happy about it…………….just don’t put all ur hopes in one basket, man………………………im sure this game is going to be average w/o some of the modes peeps have been clamouring for in every sports game……………or it could above average at best with a more refined gameplay than live 09.

Exactly! Another EA gimic just like the DNA feature in Live. It’s just another fancy name for something we could do for years now. Typical EA move. That said this game looks like it will better than Live. Maybe it’s because the college atmosphere puts you in the game unlike Live.

Looks cool. I’ll probably give it a look when it drops. I like the College B-ball atmosphere! Players do look a little skinny though.

Off topic though, Pasta, when does Fight Night Round 4 REALLY come out? I’ve seen THREE different release dates on various gamesites and one was even for December of 2009! Has the original date of March 2009 been pushed back as far as you know?

Nevermind…I just read that they moved the men’s 3-pt line back to 20ft 9in. The old line will remain on the floor for women’s games which will still use the 19ft 9in line. From what I have read having 2 lines has caused some confusion for men’s and women’s teams alike. It will be interesting to see if both lines remain on all floors for the duration of the season, or if they will use temporary lines for men’s and women’s games alike.

I’m not knocking the game, it just needs another year of polish before we can start getting excited about it.

To the guy ripping EA, DNA works in Live, and it is one of the best features I have seen in a sports video game.

College Hoops 2k8 is the most complete college basketball title ever. It doesn’t matter that there will be no 2k9, it still has more features and depth to it than this years NCAA Basketball- that means I would much rather invest my time in the more complete game.

I’m anticipating next year will have everything CH2K8 had, plus online dynasty and an EASHL type create a recruit/school type feature. The game needs another year, and I almost wish EA would realize this, hold this years release back, and then release the finished game next year.

Can’t wait to hear the bitchin and moaning on thesemessage boards once this game ships about how this game wasn’t complete, and how you hate ea, blah blah.

I think the point is that there is a meter that measures the tempo of the GAME. If you tempo matches the game tempo, you will make more shots and turn the ball over less. It makes sense imo… but you are right about the lack of modes. No “be a pro” really sucks…. Is there anything cool to do online at all??

Bumble14 – IMO this is different from sliders. When playing this game, Wisconsin will be a half-court team, Memphis fast-paced, etc. They’ve added it in to make the CPU controlled teams play like their real-life counterparts. Since they cannot add in something like Dynamic DNA (remember, college games technically are not based upon real players), this is the next best thing. It will add some variation during Dynasty Mode.

This is something NCAA Football may want to try and add their own version of so teams each run a different style of play. Right now, the playbooks reflect different styles, but there is nothing (at least that I can see) in the playcalling to differentiate teams & styles of play.

i can’t wait for this game because i love playing college basketball but i wish all games would put thease ideas into their game,if you could tell someone pasta we need thease things–how about haveing technical fouls in the game? the only ones i have ever seen are in live 09 with the player being to far away on d or whatever but i mean a technical from fouling someone hard on a drive to the basket,it’s in the game and EA s motto is it’s in the game but this isn’t.–how about sometimes players getting into a fight or shove each other? not like hockey or anything but this does happen in games–how about the bench players wearing warmups? how about the subs getting up off the bench to come into the game like 2k does? how about the coach comeing onto the floor doing a timeout to yell at the ref or one of his players? how about a coach like (bobby knight) getting mad and throwing a chair and getting a T ? anyone else could you add some more? please share.
