The DNA of a Trade

Lets look at the early returns from the Allen Iverson – Chauncey Billups swap through the latest in NBA Live 09 DNA via 365. As the year goes on it’ll display a more precise picture of how the trade changed the Nuggets and Pistons but it’s interesting to look at it even on the basis of the first couple games. Will the teams adapt more to the new player or the players to the system?

Just from looking at the team DNA from the 11/9 Rewind games you can see some slight variations in how the teams play with their new acquisitions vs how they did previously. While not drastic changes they are apparent and could be the first signs of their make-up for the rest of the season. The Nuggets saw less isolation and more spotting up while the Pistons show slightly more isolation and more spotting up with less cutting and posting up.

While Iverson and Billups aren’t going to completely change who they are that doesn’t mean we won’t see some changes in their DNA. Both players had their DNA reset following the trade which provides the opportunity to show the differences that may be attributed to joining their new teams.

Billups shows an increase in Pick and Roll ball handling which is taking the place of some isolation and posting up.

The DNA for Iverson is showing somewhat more of a shift than with Billups. He has seen half the isolation that he had previously. Considering the offense the Pistons run that is understandable. In its place he has spent more time spotting up and running off-ball screens (which was rare when he was with the Nuggets).

Do the DNA updates automatically incorporate into a franchise you have saved or must you keep starting your franchise over after a new update comes out? The 2K insider is great but I’m finding myself restarting my franchise (association) because the updates do not incorporate into an already saved file. Also do the NBA Live updates reflect injuries just like the Madden updates? 2K seems to take the easy way out on this matter by just putting players who are injured, example Parker and Manu on the Spurs, on reserve portion of the roster. The computer AI places them back into the active line ups once you start a new franchise (association) because they are not technically injured.

Good questions, Joe. But I don’t understand you continually restarting your franchise season. Once I start mine (I’m 3 seasons into NBA 2k8), the real world goes away.

@Darkheath Spot Up Jump Shot Is Like just taking the the ball and shooting it on the spot is the best way i can explain it..

You can start your franchise with any set of data. Could the the latest from today, what shipped with the game, or any particular day that you decided you wanted to start up with. Once you begin the franchise though what happens inside it is based on the events of your franchise.

Pasta do you know if they fixed the player rotation and the reorder roster problem? I’m tired of seeing Kobe starting PG and a bunch of other players playing out of position in dynasty mode. Also do you know if they will give players their new contract extension like they do in Madden?

Chris Paul and Deron Williams don’t have there new contract, and Devin Harris and Jose Calderon have their right salary, but their both on one year deal. Will this problem be fix?
