NBA Live 09 Patch Details

While the patch status for NBA Live 09 remains in question, we do finally have the details of what is being included. As expected many of the well discussed gripes such as shot percentages, delay in attempting shot blocks, and improvements to Online Team Play are included.

It sounds as though there are numerous fixes/improvements that aren’t specifically mentioned so we’ll be looking for or coming across them on our own. Hopefully they’ll wipe out the current record and stats in OTP given the changes. I’ll also be checking to see if they fixed the auto-inbounding that was plaguing the mode.

Continue on for the full details explained through a message from the dev team.

The patch for the PS3 was prematurely pushed live from Sony. They quickly pulled it, but we’re working on getting them to put it back up now that it’s out there (stay tuned on that one). The XBOX 360 patch should follow shortly, and we appreciate your patience!

We wanted to give you some details on what’s included in the patch. We listened to the community feedback very closely, and although we couldn’t get everything we wanted to in the patch due to size limitations (like beluba said earlier), we do think we’ve addressed some key issues.

  • The reception of NCAA Basketball 09, from a gameplay perspective, has been really good. Part of the luxury of being on the same engine for our basketball franchises is that we can differentiate between the two, but through the patch process, we’re able to get some of the really good things that the NCAA Basketball 09 team did. We addressed a lot of the gameplay complaints that you guys had including tuning shooting percentages, both overall and in contact situations, so that you’ll have a more realistic shooting percentage outcome. We also made some quick strike ballhandling, analog passing (logic and receptions) and jostle improvements.
  • The number one thing we were able to address was the responsiveness with block animations.
  • We adjusted the skill level of OTP to All-Star, so with lowered shooting percentages and a higher skill level, you should have a much improved OTP experience. Speaking of OTP, you’re now able to see the “Scouting” tab to look at position leaders (not just the GMs). We bumped up the club search window to 60 seconds so that you’ll have a better opportunity to find a club to play against.
  • You’re now also able to put headbands on NBA players, and the team color accessory bug has been fixed.
  • Teams with alternate home jerseys are now wearing their HOME shoes instead of their away.
  • There are other under the hood things included in the patch (like the autosave in FIBA mode now working) that we won’t go into, but we’re pretty confident that you’ll notice a difference in NBA LIVE 09.

Thanks for your support!

@J-Claw, I don't think this is something that will get patched. Unfortunately this problem has been around last several years. It's being pushed at the Live Forums though.

Ah sorry buddy. I've been working towards adding a rating system to the comments but had no success the past several weeks. I was able to get this new whole comment system installed and working just a few minutes ago. Check out the thumbs up and down ratings, plus the threaded comments like this reply to you. All I have to figure out is a way to let you guys edit your comments for a period of time after posting.

I like it, it's good. Threaded does help out a lot, instead of sorting through everything.

As much as I like Live09 right now…I am not liking the EA college B-ball game. Rented it & also D/L'd the demo but I still just can't seem to really enjoy it. I was hoping for more of a college "experience" and neither this or last year's College Hoops 2k8 delivered.

So what about Sim stats in the Dynasty mode also? Rebound and Assist stats are too low and ruin the dynasty.

Also Fast break, blocking and the menu’s still lagging are all much bigger issues that have been missed.

At least Live cares about patching up there game unlike 2K9s unplayable team up play and a host of other issues that game has.As soon as I can afford Live I will pick it up without hesitation.

Wow, didn’t I just make this point to “Reignman” this week, and yet for some reason he just wants to argue.

Pasta…have an idea I was thinking about, would like your thoughts on this. What if EA (or any other manufacturer) went to a yearly game engine update?

For example: You can purchase a baseline copy of NBA Live 09 and installing it to your harddrive. The following year upon release of NBA Live 2010, you could update via Xbox Live/PS3 Network at a reduced price. This wouldn’t be the only way of getting NBA Live 2010, you could still purchase the disk. Don’t know if I’d actually do it, but just a thought on the way forward.

What EA need to do is allow true fans of the game to come in two/three months before the game has a rough release date and BETA test the game. Four or Five game fanatics pointing out all the flaws that need to be fixed. It’s partly free (bar accommodation & food) for EA and they get all the problems that need to be fixed before the game hits the shelf.

    JR, You are naive again.

First I said, having the same engine do not AUTOMATICALLY mean, that both games shall benefit from that, even if an EA producer says that. Time will tell.

Second thing, EA want fresh, crunchy 60 bucks for all their games. Nearly all their games(except add-ons) has been released, are AAA games, well advertised, expensive games. It is not a good deal for EA to sell something for 20$, if they can sell the same thing for 60$, even if it is just a roster update. So its partly the money, partly the prestige, that the biggest producer company wont sell cheap games, they maintain to the corporate image “EA sells quality, expensive AAA games”. If they want to reduce the price, coz the sales are bad, they can not simply decrease it 20%, the only solution is what we have seen, a special discount, a special pass, BUT the product has got the same 60$ pricenote.

LOL@ReignMan back peddling. Seriously man, my point was proven, despite you being closed minded and not taking what anyone has to say with any positive regard. You stop now. You just want to rebute, and it’s a nasty habit for some on here. Seriously, watching you back peddle is very satisfying.

@UK Gamer, EA does have community day events which Pasta has been apart of and given enormous amount of feedback for. If anyone has been super critical and to point out the flaws, it has been Pasta.

Stop wasting your time with this game, patch or no patch, and join the underground of 2K9. Oops I guess its no longer underground considering the ass whipping its giving Live in terms of sales on both consoles.

    Look,

NBA Live community day should be considered a joke if there going to invite the likes of Pasta Pade and the 5w-g guys. Both have very nice sites but lets be real. If your are serious about improving your gameplay wouldnt it make more sense to have people at your community day that …

A: Are actual hardcore fans of the sport you are trying to emulate. (yes, im am questioning your fan hood pasta and how much you actually follow the NBA)

B: Don’t already favor the game before they even get there.(As Pasta has mentioned he favors NBA Live because thats what he’s used to and he doesnt want to learn new controls for a different game.)

Honestly, I’m glad Pasta gets to go to EA’s community day because its more info for us, but if EA was serious about fixing their game, and up to this point they have not been, they would get some seriously hardcore 2k gamers or at least people who are already associated with or have background in the actual sport of basketball. People coming in with the proper background and a critical mindset are going to notice more things and therefore give more useful feedback and a hell of a lot more criticism, which is exactly what EA needs.

Seriously EA, how many years have you had a community day event and still THE SHORTS IN EVERY EA GAME ARE AS STIFF AS A BOARD. IT LOOKS LIKE PLAYERS ARE WEARING CLOTHES FITTED FOR SPONGEBOB.

    @ Dr Logic:

I actually don’t necessarily disagree with you. I’ve never considered myself hardcore, at least in the way people perceive that. I fall more inbetween the casual and hardcore. If you read my impressions of games it probably is easy to see I just play the games mostly based on fun factor and my gripes or likes branch off of that.

Though if you look at my impressions coming out of community events, I think its been shown that what I point out usually ends up coming close to the consensus. For example before Madden 08 released I talked about the number of fumbles, injuries, and overpowered kicking game from the community event. For whatever reason no one else really found those to be problems, or at least they didn’t note them at the time. Those ended up being the most discussed issues the game had. So I think I generally have a feel for spotting those type of things.

All that said, there is usually a mix of guys who attend events. At the Live event, look back over my impressions which were easily the most critical from anyone there. But there were “hardcore” guys representing at it, who jumped on some of the more intriquite details.

The thing is that once we point something out, it is up to the developers to make the changes. Sometimes they may decide they don’t agree, other times they may not be able to make the changes before release, but there are cases of them taking the feedback and making direct changes based on it. So the benefits are there but maybe not to the extent that everyone hopes for. So look back on my event impressions, you’ll see that most of what I pointed out continue to be seen as deficiencies with the game, even though I discussed them.
