The Line Drive 12/14

  • As discussed previously the Arena Football League is in big trouble and it now looks like the 2009 season may be canceled. However they are now reconsidering the decision to scrap it. Regardless the AFL license that is available after EA Sports decided not to renew won’t be appealing to any other companies.
  • Operation Sports is running their year end awards. You can vote for them here. Categories include sports game of the year, best title for each particular sport, and best company interaction.
  • Don’t forget that the unveiling of Fight Night Round 4 will take place tonight on the Spike VGAs which begins at 9et/6pt. Will it deliver with something never before seen in a videogame? We’ll see. One thing that will be shown is “a virtual bout between two legends of the ring” which likely means Ali and Tyson.
  • Just a reminder that the Pastapadre.com Home Club is up. If you are interested in joining search from within Home and request to join. I’ll then accept it. For whatever reason the ability for me to send invites out is broken.
  • So I used that original next-gen Madden “target” CGI screenshot and its interesting to me that it featured Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb who are still together to this day. There are probably only a few cases where over four years ago a team had the same head coach and starting QB as they do now.
  • A producer blog on EA Sports World mentions that the official title for Madden next year will be Madden NFL 10 rather than Madden NFL 2010. Personally I think that sounds lame and makes little sense. I’d much rather have 2010, 20-10, or even XXI representing the 21st year of the franchise. Vote in the poll for which name you would prefer.
What name would you prefer for Madden next year?

I had a bad feeling they were gonna go with Madden 10 , it just sounds so boring , hey guys have you got your copy of Madden 10, it sounds like some kind of cheesy movie, I was pulling for Madden 2010 but they better make up for it with some sweet features.

I think madden 2010 sounds better…. madden 10 just sounds weird, but personally I could care less as long as they improve their game so I can actually buy another madden title because madden 09 was my first non purchase :-/

"Madden NFL 10" just doesn't flow. I'd rather see the game be called "Madden NFL 2010" or "Madden NFL XXI". If I had to choose either of those, I'd like to just see "Madden NFL XXI" and see them use roman numerals throughout the rest of the franchise. It'll be interesting to see what they decide to choose.

They aren't what make a game but they are huge parts of a FOOTBALL GAME. 2009 & no refs or chaingangs yet? Really? We had refs & chaingangs in Madden '92! So I guess the crowd & stadiums aren't important either? Hell, why don't the just leave sidelines out while they're at it since all that matters is what's on the field right? Come on!

Josh, all those things you mention would be a great addition, but to me it's not a deal breaker and doesn't take away from the game. To be honest, if they were in the game I'd probably just hit the "A" button to skip that cut scene or to speed up the game, that's just me. The fact that you or others get worked up over something so minimal and will say that Madden is a garbage game for lacking refs and chain gang just makes me chuckle a bit.

JR, you're missing the point. It's not that they are deal breakers but there is no excuse why they are not in the game yet. We shouldn't cut EA any slack when it comes to details because they make the only NFL game out there. We should expect nothing but the best. This in Next Gen JR & there shouldn't be aspects of the game that were better 10 to 15 years ago than they are now.

Makes sense to have it called Madden 10 to me than Madden 2010. It’s not like like this years game was called Madden 2009, it was called Madden 09. Same as every year before that if I remember correctly.

I didn't like Madden 06 next gen, turned it in after one drive, lol. I bought it a couple years later to get all the achievement points. I remember thinking "this game is way too fast and the players are way too big".
