Madden NFL 10: The Wrong Name Choice

My initial reaction to hearing Madden NFL 10 is currently being prepped as the name for next year’s Madden was of surprise. I mean it just sounds and looks awkward. Most expected EA to go with Madden NFL 2010 which is neither of those things.

So I put up the poll this last weekend and it became quickly evident that the community agreed. Not only did Madden 10 trail Madden 2010 in the voting, it also came in behind the two other choices presented. Madden 10 has received only 7% of the votes while 2010 is tracking at 59%. Given that over 1700 votes have already been cast that is a significant sampling to consider.

why does it matter wats the name of the game when in actuallity we can call the game wateva we want even if the title says madden 10 on the cover? it can say madden 1000000000000000 its still gonna be madden 2010 to me! you guys need to get a life and find something more to talk about like having sex!

Madden 10, the 21st Madden game, being released in August 09, makes a lot of sense to me. About as much sense as the rest of the garbage Tiburon includes in their game.

I think a change in the name would be a good thing. Afterall, Madden is starting to get stale so change could be good. Like others have said it really doesn't matter what they call it. They better worry about improving presentation, adding REFS, CHAINGANGS, PROGRESSIVE LIGHTING, REAL LOOKING SIDELINES, ETC….

In one of the producer blogs at EASW, it looks like NCAA Football will also be going with the 'NCAA Football 10' treatment.

I agree with the poll and hope both titles go with either '2010,' '20-10,' or roman numerals. Heck, even making it '10 would be better, not this straight up Madden NFL 10 or NCAA Football 10. Considering how 'well' the name has gone over so far, I'd be pretty surprised if they stuck with it.

Yeah, I'd guess that their whole lineup is going with the 10 treatment. I wouldn't be surprised to see them change either. I have to wonder what anyone saw in calling them 10, other than saving two characters from having to be printed.

I think the name change won't have any affect, just a matter of getting accustom to it which should pretty fast since the entire EA lineup will probably go that route next year.

Would love to see a more in depth franchise mode, or the owner mode to come back. I used to love moving the Rams back to Los Angeles. We need a football team.

The name is terrible and i doubt EA will use it once they receive the negatve feedback from fans. I just thinkg EA's cheap and they are trying to save ink by not including the "2 0" part.

I think it is fine. All of the Maddens from the '90s only had two digits after the name. I don't have any kneejerk negative reaction to 'Madden 10'. It feels exactly like 'Madden 2010' to me.
