Madden 09 Roster Update #16 Details

by pastapadre
Posted December 19th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

We have now reached the 16th roster update of the year for Madden 09 which became available earlier today. After much discussion around LaDainian Tomlinson continuing to be rated 99 he still remains that way, though he did drop in some specific ratings categories. I don’t think that is enough, the justification isn’t there for him remaining a 99 overall. Unless the ratings are based more on the past than the present. This is the guy who turned down the Madden cover because it didn’t pay enough money, so I’m not sure why he would be getting such favoritism.

Also of note is a small ratings bump for Matt Cassell. Others such Joe Flacco, DeAngelo Williams, Steve Slaton, and John Carlson didn’t see any improvement. Continue on for all the transactions, ratings up/down, injuries, and contract extensions.

jason campbell- hes rated as good as trent edwards and didnt throw a pic for 8 games (thats a crime)
          chris horton
laron landry (just awr or play recognition, dont care about overall)
          mike sellars (PROBOWL, nuf said)
          d hall and shawn springs
          stephon heyer
          fred davis (slightly not much)
….im not really concerned with the rest but rating campbell as low as edwards is like rating mcnabb and tavaris jackson on the same level, its the nfc east and he didnt make a bad decision for 8 weeks he should be an 88 bare min…id love to see a disagreement on anyone of these…

chris horton did great in the beginning of the season just that the beginning and he got boosted to where he should be….he barely ever on the field now anyway
landry is already overrated as it is
sellers is a guy i like so u got me there
d hall always gets burned screw the pics if ur gettin beat deep
stephon heyer anyone kno this guy???? since hes been back in portis' numbers have gone down….im sure that u redskins fans will blame that on injury

DeAngelo Hall gets burn by every WR in this league.

Chris Johnson is the man in Oakland now, huge upgrade over D-Hall. Guy is just making plays, and he doesn't care when a team doesn't throw to Asomugha, he just makes plays when the ball is thrown his way.

He had 3 picks with Oakland too, but he was burned EVERY game.

Now Oakland is starting a 29 years old CB who had started 1 game in his 5 years career named Chris Johnson who also has 3 picks but he is NOT burned every game and by every WR. If you see every Oakland game this year it's pretty obvious that C.J. is an upgrade over D-Hall.

C.J. has 3 picks and 11 pass deflected in 6 games started.

In his last game he was in man coverage of Andre Johnson (before the game he was leading the NFL in receiving yards and receptions). Andre Johnson ended the night with 2 receptions and 19 yards with no TD's and C.J. had an INT on a pass thrown his way.

im aware of cj, i was hoping he would develop, ive followed him since he was a rookie, loosely, cus lets face it its the raiders and id be more entertained trimming my pubes, he can play man coverage sufficiently enough, weak zone coverage skills (flats/curl zones) lucky for him 98% of the time the raiders are in man but if you believe halls playmaking and experience is addition by subtraction, then you deserve everyone of those 4 wins this year

Hiram Eugene replaced Michael Huff at FS, and he is doing a good job, playing better football than Huff did. He is a much better tackler than Huff was.

Starter FS Eugene is only 71 overall while backup Huff is 78.

Raiders LT Mario Henderson has no penalties and no sacks allowed in his 4 starts, and has outplayed Kwame Harris (15 penalties and 10+ sacks allowed in 11 starts).

Mario Henderson kept JaMarcus Russell untouched against Tamba Hali (week 2), Aaron Schobel (week 3), Ty Warren (week 15) and Mario Williams (week 16).

Henderson is rated a 70, while Kwame Harris (aka Worst NFL Lineman) is 74.

EA, just use the logic, Henderson should be at least 75. Harris, about 25 overall.

Or that I'm overrated and Belichick is a legendary dick of a coach and the team around me is really good. Either way

im sorry to say but no eagles reciever should be rated past 80. just to represent realistically what mcnabb is workin with. they got nooooo separation what so ever and when mcnabb brought time it was for nooo reason. they dropped passes left and right and tds were left on the field in that….offensive plane crash!!!!!! no one should blame mcnabb for that one especially if they watched the game. the d was absolutely HOT tho

Ive been on the cowboys wagon since the early 90's . They have the cowboys looking like a monster team with these Madden ratings. Ive watched ervery single game from eitherhome or at the stadium here in dallas. Tony , Columbo , The enitre secondary , and T.O have been good at times , but never great. Tonys made some highlight escapes and hit some pretty good ones downfield but he nevers does anything right when it matters most. Columbo has only went up against 1 true pass rusher all year. J Tuck. Result . 3.5 sacks. As for Newman and the rest of the secondary. GET OUT OF TOWN !!!

So if Jerious Norwood doesn't get his speed boosted up to 98 by the end of this season, to hell with buying another madden ever again. I dont care about overalls, i care about details. Matt Ryan has a much stronger arm than 93, Norwood ran a faster 40 time than Bush in their combine, and has continued to be a speed demon, Curtis Lofton has not gotten a single update all season, Roddy White is much faster than a 93 speed rating… Falcons are 11-5, in the playoffs, given a few screwjobs by the refs (aka @ Philly), we would have had a chance at 12-4 home field throughout.

i agree 100% .norwood needs his speed to go up.everyone overlooks that.i hate it.EA just doesnt care for the atlanta falcons cuz they probably dont think they will go anywhere in the playoffs. And i think lofton was one of the people that was considered to be defensive player of the year.mayo has been doing a little better than lofton.I mean coming from the pick lofton was chosen at during the draft hes doing much better than his default overall rating.he hasnt gone anywhere on ratings.i mean yea that was big that he got a hard hitting weapon to start with but that doesnt mean that they just leave him like that.I also would like to touch upon michael jenkins who also hasnt seen any boosts.hes not roddy white but he deserves a little bit.

norwood should get acceleration boosted not speed, hes quick but corners can run him down, matt ryan needs an accuracy boost not power, comparably hes got jason campbells throw power which is about = they can both throw 70+ yards and i dont wanna hear about roddy white hes rated just as he should be with comparable speed to robert meachum, im shocked the one player who should be on your list and rightfully deserves a boost, chevis jackson i dont think hes had one update all year…not to rag the falcons, i hope this gives you a more objective view from a non falcons fan

Im not even a Falcons fan and i agree on that, Matt Ryan overall is underrated for what he has done for this organization. Roddy White burns corners left and right, trust me i know i remember the game against Denver when champ was out and sorry ass dre bly was covering him. Unless you double cover white he is gonna win. Also Jerious Norwood should be much faster and have better agility for the yardage he gets from just burning people. Falcons overall as a team are very underrated.

if putting up nice numbers against awful defenses merits a 99 ranking then what should michael turner be? he's run for 200+ yards in a game TWICE this season! he's BARELY a 90 wtf!

michael turner should be a 92, 90 is fair 92 would be accurate hes not the best back in the league (LT is, stats may not say it but he is the best back in the league with AP running a close second) but hes in with the elites, you cant deduct points from his overall for an off day or 4 game stretch, thatd be like tom brady loosing points next year, still the undisputed best qb ever, stats dont back it up but the record books do, same with lt

You asked for a case Ken, you’ll get one. Don’t base it specifically on interceptions. Last I checked, off the top of my head, I can remember 2 games where he got two picks in one game. Redskins and Jaguars. HUGE accomplishment. Jason Cambell is way too over hyped. The guy fears the whole NFC East. Blitzs make the guy piss his pants… With the Ravens D they have, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he threw 10 picks. Colt Brennen is better than him. The Steelers are the ones to get Cambell on his pick crazy spree. He had NO interceptions until he played us. And I think he finally threw two to us.
As for the Jaguars, all I need to do is mention their name. I predicted them to make it high in the playoffs. Obviously that’s not going to happen. They’ve been in a huge slump all year with key injuries. They have NO oline. Put them against a really physical pass rushing defense, what do you think’s going to happen? Like I said, I’m surprised the defense didn’t get MORE picks.

and what the crap are you talking about campbell fears the nfc east? we swept the eagles and hes thrown 1 int vs the nfc east, 6 division games and 1 pic doesnt spell fear, and as i have said all year he is severely underrated he almost broke the completions without a pic record for the 8 consecutive games he didnt throw a pic, if you wanna talk about over rated qbs you should look at big ben, hes rated better than campbell in the game but on the stat sheet campbell is better, BB – 17tds 15 ints JC 13tds 6ints, BB – qb rating 80.1 JC qb rating 84.3; campbell is obviously the better qb when compared to the plaxicoless rothleisberger (eli stole bens "strategy" of when ever he panics heave it in plax's general direction) whos stats have plummited since his rookie year

First off, again, you have to watch the games not just highlight shows and stats bro. If you knew what kinda line we're trying to work with, you wouldn't even mention that pointless assault you just put on Big Ben. Our best players on the line this year are gone with injuies. (Marvel Smith and Kendal Simmons) and THEY weren't even too great. We didn't make any significant changes to better us in any situation. I'm honestly surprised we made it this far. I'm happy we have the defense that we do. They truly carried us to where we are. Every team has a storyline this year. Our's is our line. Know it before you make any judgements. As for the NFC East comment I made about his fear, it's not even just the NFC East. The guy is NOT a good starter. He has his games but he's nowhere near consistant. After his game against us, and throwing his first pair of picks, he went on a landslide and you can't even say he didn't… you'd be lieing to yourself.

Lets look at solo tackles. According to the NFL, Reed had 34, Polamalu had 54. Reed assisted 7 tackles. Polamalu assisted 19 tackles. 73 total tackles for Polamalu.41 Ed Reed. Tackle comparison=Woowwwwww Reed’s got one sack, Polamalu has none. Reed has a forced fumble, Polamalu doesn’t officially, but anyone watching the Chargers game knows that the last play of the game it was ANOTHER touchdown we should have won by. Last I checked, Polamalu was the one causing that turn around into a touchdown. As many of you know, the refs apologized for their error. This ties their defensive touchdowns at one. I think you go by wayy too many halftime highlights bro. Don’t believe the Reed hype. He’s a great player. I’ll never go against that. When I have people going against Polamalu Island (for those of you who saw that commercial) for him though, I have to say something.

Ed Reed puts point on the board?….Didn't I just mention to you the defensive touchdowns?I saw on NFL.com Reed has one. Troy SHOULD have one but the officiating took it back and made a mistake…a win's a win though so I'll take it. The only thing better about Reed is he can be used for kickoffs like you said. There's a reason why Reed returns punts for you guys. He has that vision to do so. After he gets his picks, I would EXPECT the guy to juke everyone's ass. And we beat you guys in the playoffs a few years back after you guys embarrassed us in the regular season that year. Payback was a bitch wasn't it? Whether you're a Colts fan or not, I loved it. At the time, yeah, it did seem like they deserved to be the coaches. However, look at us now. All the doubters of Tomlin were put to rest. I for one am happy to have him as our coach. Look at his success in his first and only two head coaching seasons. The guy just keeps getting better and better. As for what you said on Big Ben…uhh..last I checked, every QB likes to have a big go to guy. Hines and Santonio are great, but we need a tall guy who make get the jump ball. Every QB wants a tall go to guy. You really don't know your football do you?

As for what you said about Mewelde Moore, there you go again running your mouth on situations you don't know the story behind. The guy was supposed to be our BACKUPS backup. Willie Parker has been down in a few games this season. Rashard Mendehall was out for the WHOLE season. Our two top running backs were out. Last I checked, 3rd stringers are third stringers for a reason. However, Moore did a great job and did what he had to do to get us the W when needed. He did his job + more. he wasn't signed to be our starter. Again…know your football bro. I would love to know your team.
